What I like most about Employment Hero is how user-friendly and efficient the platform is for managing HR and people-related processes. The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, which makes everyday tasks such as employee management, leave requests, and document handling much more streamlined.

One of the standout features for me is the AI-powered HR assistant. It resolves around 90% of my HR-related questions without the need to contact support, saving a significant amount of time and helping me find answers quickly. The AI functionality has become a valuable first point of reference for our team.

Another major strength is Employment Hero's customer support team. They are always easy to communicate with, responsive, and knowledgeable. Every time I have contacted support, the information provided has been accurate and helpful, which gives me confidence in the platform and minimizes delays in resolving issues.

From a performance perspective, the system is reliable and has helped improve workflow efficiency by reducing manual administrative tasks. The onboarding process was straightforward, and the available support resources made implementation smooth.

At times, Employment Hero introduces changes or enhancements to the system, but these are not always obvious to end users. As a result, we sometimes only become aware of a change when an issue arises, a process behaves differently than expected, or we discover the update accidentally while using the platform.

More proactive communication, such as clear notifications, release summaries, or in-platform announcements highlighting how changes may impact existing workflows, would help users adapt more smoothly and reduce confusion. While the platform continues to evolve and improve, greater visibility of upcoming and recently implemented changes would enhance the overall user experience.

Employment Hero has helped us centralize and streamline many of our HR and people management processes, including payroll, onboarding, recruitment, employee record management, and document filing. Having these functions in a single platform reduces administrative workload, minimizes manual data entry, and improves overall efficiency.

The onboarding and recruitment features have been particularly valuable, as they help create a smoother experience for both new hires and hiring managers. Payroll processing is also more efficient, with employee information flowing seamlessly through the system.

One feature I especially appreciate is the reporting functionality. **What do you like best about Employment Hero?**

It's a user friendly interactive platform that is easy to train others to use. Hovering over many headings / comments gives a detailed explanation or overview of what that task can do.
We use both the HR and payroll platforms which makes onboarding employees effortless and using the EH work app allows employees to easily keep their details up to date and apply for leave without the need to be in the office.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

Updates in payroll don't always flow into HR appropriately. 
We have a great deal of custom rules within our payroll system which can be difficult to keep track of when there are detailed Award updates
Some of our employees have found the app can become glitchy if they don't log out regularly.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Integration between the HR & payroll platforms is being upgraded all the time, reducing the disparity between the two.
Ai chat bot is really helpful when you need a quick answer for time sensitive situations, with the option to still speak with someone if you need further help.

Keeping all HR and payroll docs in one place.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

The constant changing of the platform. Things get moved around and you have to search for them and functions that work well are removed and then replaced with extra steps to get to where you want to be. A lot of convenient functions I constantly used have been replaced this way and it is very frustrating. I feel not enough testing is done (or clients consulted about how they use certain functions) before the changes are made.    
Also, it has improved slightly lately, but I find calling support a chore as it takes so long to get through to someone. I lose a lot of time when I have to call for help.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I dont have any problems EH is solving, they are creating more with the constant platform changes.

Employment Hero has significantly improved and streamlined many of our day-to-day HR and payroll processes, creating greater efficiency, visibility, and consistency across the business. It reduces the amount of manual administration required, minimises the risk of errors, and allows processes that were previously time-consuming to be completed far more efficiently.

From an operational and HR perspective, it assists greatly with maintaining compliance by ensuring accurate record keeping, employee documentation, leave management, payroll processing, and timesheet approvals are all managed within one centralised system. Having everything stored electronically also improves transparency, accountability, and accessibility for both managers and employees.

The system provides employees with direct access to important information such as payslips, leave balances, rosters, timesheets, policies, and employment documents, which encourages greater ownership and self-management. For managers, it allows improved oversight of staffing, attendance, approvals, reporting, and workforce trends across all sites.

Employment Hero also supports consistency in processes and expectations company-wide, ensuring that approvals, documentation, onboarding, disciplinary records, and compliance requirements are managed in a structured and professional manner.

Overall, the platform has helped modernise our systems, improve communication and workflow efficiency, support legislative compliance obligations, and reduce administrative burden across the business.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

One area I dislike about Employment Hero is the limited level of customisation available around visibility and workflow management. Certain functions feel disconnected and cannot easily be viewed together, which can make processes more time-consuming than necessary. For example, it would be highly beneficial to have timesheets integrated with leave visibility so managers can view attendance and approved leave within the same screen, rather than needing to move between multiple sections of the system. This would improve efficiency, reduce the chance of oversight, and create a more streamlined user experience.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to implementing Employment Hero, we utilised a highly manual system where many processes and reports were extremely time-consuming to complete. Since transitioning to Employment Hero, we have been able to significantly streamline our processes, improve overall compliance, and reduce administrative workload across the business.

The platform has created considerable time savings on a day-to-day operational level and has also provided strong support to other departments through improved visibility, reporting, and workflow management, which has been a fantastic improvement for the business overall.

Considering we've only been with Employment Hero just over a month, the time and service from you has been outstanding. You helped us start a new employee handbook, finalize our policies, and tighten up our contracts, which has been invaluable for future-proofing our business.1

I also spoke with Tom Brennan about some platform queries today, specifically regarding setting up our leave categories, and he was ever so helpful also.2

I was a bit worried at first as we did the self-implementation, and some parts felt uncertain, but once I got through to speak to you and Tom, I feel this was definitely the right choice.

the terminology of the training video showing how to use seem to be different to what is on the desktop, it seems not all videos have been updated, the AI doesn't seem to work consistently and I feel the support access isn't practical if you have an urgent problem. However because I have not had a great deal of time to explore I am unable to fully comment

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a standalone HR manager and im struggling to explore the system fully, we have had employees get blocked or locked out the system and I have sought advise but i am still waiting. The system set yup seems a little clunky and we have had a lovely advisor Cherry helping up, however this is going to be a slow process

Flexibility.
Functions that address HR needs.
Ease of use for both HR team and employees.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

Support tickets sometimes take a long time to generate.
Go1 integrations can glitch. Support tickets take at least 24 hours to generate via EH queue. Then it takes ages (48 hours) before the actual Go1 integration problem is resolved.
Seek integration also does glitch. I've had a number of ads not go up. This tends to happen when I've made a typo or need to change the initial ad and the integration seems to glitch when trying to update the ad with the changes. I then need to call Seek to have the ad taken down and organise a refund.
The initial HR package also included legal advice. I'm not sure where we're at with that.

Administration of various HR functions is now able to done via a single portal. The tool is easy enough to be adapted and flexible enough to cope with changes.

Ease of use and the overall functionality look good in theory, but they still don’t feel fully put into practice.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

The performance review process feels limited. Booking review periods for employees is restrictive, and it doesn’t allow enough tailoring for different situations. The workflows are also cumbersome to set up and use, and the guides don’t provide enough detail to make the overall process clear. Permissions are another area that needs better explanation, especially when you’re in setup mode.

Also, if you onboard someone in one month and they don’t start until the following month, you still have to pay for them for both months, even though their system access isn’t available until their start date. This wasn’t explained upfront.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We’re planning to use EH to automate the processes we currently manage manually. I’m also hoping the platform will deliver strong analytics to help us better understand and track what’s happening.
At this stage I'm not seeing a massive difference in automating our very manual processes (eg: performance reviews).
Employment has a team of support people based in Australia, we are located in the New Zealand, the support to date is vastly inadequate, the chat bot is useless when asking it a question that is more complex on how to set up an employee, almost every question is sends you in circles, suggest you always state human agent and then you get a person. When you do get a person they do not know their product at all and you will get a variety of answers by dealing with different people on the same issues.  They also close off tickets when not resolved or communicated theya re resolved.

Customer Service is average. Yesterday I was on the chat with 2 people who were trying to help me. They were completely unhelpful and the attitude seemed well that's all I can do and it was SLOW. Eventually I asked if I could be escalated. She then mentioned phone support. So after waiting over an hour on the chat I called. Phone call took approx 20mins waiting and then SARAH G sorted my issue in a few minutes. She was awesome. But by this stage I was unbelievably frustrated.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Honestly we use pretty simple features. I understand the self service model of the business. But if you aren't technically savvy like me, I'm unlikely to try new features that I have to teach myself to use. The platform isn't flexible at all which doesn't always suit us.

As a small business owner, you have millions of things to do everyday. HR often falls to the back of the urgency queue when you have to make money and satisfy clients. So having one place to put all your staff documents, reviews, reminders and processes is wonderful. No more searching drives and drawers for employment agreements. Plus you never forget an anniversary or birthday! Let alone the automation that can save time and compliance to save your business if there is a real issue. You can run your business without it, but why would you.

There is a lot to learn using any software. I had a staff member set it up and still needed help. Luckily there was contractors who could help me fractionally to solve most of these. If you use a well known product you can get help when you need.

Staying compliant with all the changes in work place relations is tough! But at least you know you have support and coverage with an Australian made software.

For the small company I’m supporting (as a contractor through another company), EH has been very helpful as an HRIS. The specialist we worked with, Diana, has been great in all of our conversations. Payroll has run very smoothly, and support has been wonderful, whether through email, the AI option, or the community guides. The AI option for help is very quick.  The price for the system was perfect for the client, it integrated well with their accounting system, and so far, employees have had an easy time using it.  The system has performed as we have hoped!

So far, nothing major. It’s just taking us a bit of time to understand some of the system’s nuances and figure out how to fix things when they come up. It’s not a big deal at all.

What I like best about Employment Hero is that it keeps everything in one place. Staff records, certifications, and employee information are easy to access and manage, which saves time and makes administration more efficient. I also find the reporting features very helpful, as I can quickly pull reports to track certifications that are close to expiry and ensure compliance requirements are kept up to date.

What I dislike most about Employment Hero is the notification system. The notification emails and alerts do not look very appealing, and some staff members mistakenly think they are spam, which can lead to important messages being overlooked. I also find it limiting that many notifications do not appear to be customizable, or at least the options to modify them are not easy to find. Greater flexibility in the design and content of notifications would help improve engagement and communication with employees.

The all in one setup is the standout. Having HR, payroll, onboarding and employee self service sitting in the one platform means we’re not jumping between systems or duplicating data. Onboarding new staff is largely automated now, so new starters complete their own contracts, bank details and personal info before their first day, which has saved us hours. The employee self service portal is a big win too, the team can pull payslips, request leave and update their details without coming through admin every time. Payroll syncing has been reliable, the interface is clean and easy to navigate, and support have been responsive when we’ve needed them.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

The reporting can feel a bit rigid, getting a custom report exactly how you want it sometimes takes more digging than it should. A few of the more advanced features sit behind higher tiers, so the pricing can climb as you scale. Occasional syncing delays between modules have popped up, though nothing major. The mobile app is handy but lags behind the desktop version on a couple of functions. Overall minor gripes against what it delivers.

Honestly, moving our onboarding and HR documents over to Employment Hero has saved my sanity. Having the contracts, VEVO checks, and policy sign-offs all handled digitally in one spot before a new starter even walks through the door is brilliant. The integration with Xero is relatively smooth, and knowing that the platform actively updates with Fair Work award changes gives me massive peace of mind on the compliance side. The staff also find the Swag app pretty easy for checking payslips and submitting leave requests.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

It’s not entirely a "set and forget" system. The initial setup and getting our custom payroll rules sorted took way more manual data entry and tweaking than the sales pitch led us to believe. My biggest gripe, though, is the customer support. If you hit a weird glitch or a payroll error, getting a real human on the phone or chat quickly can be incredibly frustrating—it relies heavily on their AI chatbot and support tickets, which takes time when you're in a rush.

EH has made our people experience much more seamless, and the integration between the HR and payroll platforms has also made things a lot quicker than our previous processes. Managers now have better visibility, and the features available in the HR platform are always evolving. The payroll platform is consistently up to date, and there is always someone available to help, whether through the chatbot or a human. The support resources are also very helpful.

Sometimes issues take a bit longer to resolve than I would expect. At times, you may end up speaking with someone who doesn’t fully understand the legal requirements in the country, which can mean the advice isn’t accurate.

There is a lot of functionalities that I was told at the sales stage that are available and customisable and they are not. I was surprised for example how limited custom reporting is, I worked on many HR systems before and none of them (maybe apart of BreatheHR) was so restrictive. You made the app and visually nice product, I would invest in building capabilities for HR teams now.

I really like how simple Employment Hero makes onboarding. Setting up new staff is quick and straightforward, which saves me a lot of time. The recruitment side is also great—it’s easy to create job ads, track applicants, and keep everything organised in one place.

I also love that, once everything is set up, the system syncs smoothly with payroll, so there’s no double-handling of information. The app is another big positive: staff can do about 90% of what they need directly through it without having to log into the website, which makes things much easier for them. 

It’s also really easy to create and upload policies, induction content, and other documents. There are still features I haven’t had the chance to use yet, like performance reviews, but that’s only because it’s just me in this role, not because the system is difficult.

I appreciate that Employment Hero is always updating and improving the platform. Support has been great too. At first, I wasn’t a fan of having to submit a ticket for everything, but now that chat support is available, getting help is much quicker.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

Processing the pay run isn’t as quick as I expected. It works, but it’s slower than I was led to believe. Our award also wasn’t available in the system initially, so it had to be built, which added extra time during the transition.

EH does offer some reporting capabilities, but the available fields are limited and don’t really meet our needs. The ability to create fully customised reports would make a big difference.

The transition from our previous provider took some time and effort, but we had support throughout the process. Once everything was set up, day-to-day use became very straightforward. I use Employment Hero daily for onboarding, expense claims, and managing leave, and we process payroll fortnightly, so having everything in one system makes a real difference.

Employment Hero has definitely saved me a lot of time compared to our old setup. Having onboarding, recruitment, payroll, leave, policies, documents, and general HR admin all in one place has made my workload far more manageable. It has reduced manual admin, improved consistency, and made HR tasks more efficient overall.

The chatbot feature can waste time as it continues to source solutions even if I ask to speak directly with a human.

I'm still not fussed on the chat bot. For basic problems it seems to work ok, but it does detract me away from my actual work after directly asking to speak with a human and needing to wait as it continues to sort solutions. I understand the system and if I am contacting, it is usually a case that I need to speak with someone. There are also work arounds online provided by EH, but most of these tutorials are not kept up to date. When a process changes, it should be updated immediately to the current process online as to not confuse the client using the system.

The reporting is very clunky, hard to get data out of the system, or to see things at one glance. I can't easily see what are the HR next steps for my staff, when contracts lapse and have a timeline about what needs to happen by when.

I will admit the onboarding process got difficult at a point. Everything was smooth until I had some outstanding requirements I needed to upload and I couldn’t find on the app where to upload. I use Employment Hero for both HR and Payroll, and I like that it provides real-time changes and updates which are really handy. It's great that our business only needs this one software for all our HR and Payroll needs, eliminating the necessity for other programs. I find it really user-friendly, and I've had fantastic 24/7 support. On payroll day, if there are last-minute changes to employee contracts, they can be immediately applied and flow through to payroll. I also appreciate how seamless the new employee onboarding is, and employees find it easy to use for both HR and Payroll. We did our own implementation and, although there were a few issues, they were quickly rectified with support and guidance from the Employment Hero team.

One of the best parts is how my staff can see their roster or payslips as soon as they're published, and they can apply for their leave through the app. It’s been a big step forward for us since now our staff can do these things anywhere and anytime, unlike before when they had to come into our venue. The app and online accessibility are fantastic features we didn't have with our previous software.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

Our staff are unable to use the shift swapping or shift bidding functions because they are using the HR platform & it is on,y available in the payroll platform,. It would be very useful if it was integrated into both sides of Employment Hero. The initial setup required a lot of time to create Excel spreadsheets and input data with all staff details.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Employment Hero lets us see rosters and payslips online and apply for leave easily, saving us from having to visit the venue physically. It's a big improvement for our staff, providing flexibility to access these anywhere, anytime. With the introduction of weekly superannuation payments we are waiting on a SAFF file to be created as this is the format type required by AustralianSuper from July 1st.

These features save a lot of time for me by reducing the need for manual HR activities. With just a few clicks, I can issue contracts, onboard employees, and send relevant induction content, which streamlines the entire hiring to offboarding process.

Development- 1:1 module. It’s hard to get through its workflow and managing to make it work. A common headache for people managers i would say.

It is great to have one platform to access everything related to employment; work schedules, payslips, timesheets. It makes it so easy to keep on track of everything. The app is very fast and easy to navigate. I also love the additional perks included, such as discounts and vouchers.

On the ‘unavailability’ section to note down days/times I am unable to work, I have to log in each day of a specific black period of time, which is very time consuming. It doesnt allow me to block off a section of days/weeks (e.g one whole week or month).

**What do you like best about Employment Hero?**

It has significantly improved our holiday management processes and boosted employee satisfaction, as staff can now view their own holiday balances and manage time off far more conveniently.

Once implemented, the system is straightforward to use. It has also made managing employee information much more efficient, while improving the accuracy of our record-keeping.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

The link between payroll and HR for holidays seems unnecessary, and continues to be very frustrating as it causes delays in processing payroll. We would prefer holidays to sit within the HR platform only. 

We’re not even using half of the features because the setup of new features is complicated and unless you have a degree in computer programming it is very difficult to follow set up processes. That said, once everything is set up properly, the system is good and straightforward to use.

Customer support and account management could still be better, but they are improving all the time. It’s much easier to speak to a person than it used to be. When issues come up, they resolve problems quickly, and communication is good throughout the process.

Reporting is quite limited and could be better.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It has improved our record keeping across HR and Payroll. 

Holiday management is now so much easier, especially the fact that employees can self-manage their bookings and balances.

It is easier to get an overview of the workforce.

Employment Hero has helped us to move and maintain all our processes to a paperless module and we seamlessly are able to do everything online. It has helped us digitalize everything and the onboarding and offboarding are straightforward processes now. It is a breeze in term of compliance management. The ongoing feature developments and communications around it are great.

Few product updates are made and the system looks and feels slightly different from an user perspective. This gets a little confusing till we get used to the changes. This is only a minor issue, nothing major.

Once set up, the login system is very straightforward. We are new to this kind of system but I do enjoy the daily photo it takes once we clock in and out. I have had a lot of fun with this element!

Adding toil isn't something we've been able to figure out yet. It was also really messy to set up and caused a lot of issues with logins etc. It could be made easier for employees.

Problems if we forget to clock out and leave the range of the WiFi. It would be amazing if it would clock out once we left the WiFi but I don't think that's a possibility. Also, that would cause issues I guess. We're just not used to it yet and we do forget.

There is nothing that dislike about but sometimes if our 2 shifts are approved at the same time and when I try to look at the notifications which shifts have been approved I can see only 1 at a time when I try to open the other one it's says something went wrong try again and see the other shift I have to close the application and open it again then I will be able to see

**What do you like best about Employment Hero?**

It's free (I am using the Free Payroll option), it's simple to set up and use. It connects to HMRC and so keeps us compliant. 
The support is excellent - I had to ask for help a couple of times and got prompt and helpful responses.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

The only thing we are missing in the Free Payroll option is to be able to auto-calculate annual leave accrued, as we have lots of part-time staff who can work different hours week to week. To combat this, I have created a simple spreadsheet where we can record each member of staff's weekly hours and the spreadsheet will do the running calculations for us, which works just fine but obviously would be simpler if it could all be handled within Employment Hero. 
I understand there are paid subscription options that would grant us this facility though.

**What problems is Employment Hero solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I had a lot of issues trying to set up the payroll on our accounts software and found Employment Hero whilst looking for  alternative options. Employment Hero was easy to set up and does what we need it to do - with the added benefit that the Free Payroll option is completely free to use! (Whereas, we would have incurred a cost per employee if we had used our accounts software), so it saves us money too!

Customisation on managing forms is a little clucky, being able to edit forms and policies after they published, i.e. renaming titles.

It is a little difficult to support employees gaining access to their account when they've been locked out or changed their email, or lost their recovery code. 

Would be great if managers could see policies acknowledged under the certification tab like admins can.

As an organisation we are working through the timesheet and rostering function implementation which is now ready to go thanks to the custom security settings updates. This will provide tremendous impact to our operations and finanical benefits, providing more of an oversight on rostering costs.

Honestly, its the support - it is exceptionally slow.  Particularly when faced with payroll issues, that can be extremely time sensitive.  Also the launching of new products, I was informed about one that would help us immensely and told it was going to me in March, it is now June and it is still not launched.

The onboarding of new employees has helped us immensely.  The ability to send offer letters and then onboard the new employees without any need to double entry any data.  This alone has saved me time and a lot of paper!

It is a good platform for having everything in one place.

**What do you dislike about Employment Hero?**

We were told about some features during the proposal phase only to discover that these are not in fact actual features.
There are also some fundamental issues with the platform. 
There are the User Guides in the Knowledge Centre which are mostly outdated by platform enhancements. This means you will be asking a Chat bot for advice and nearly always asking to talk to a person. There is no way to report actual Clock In and Out Times. This is a COMPLIANCE issue. There is no way to bulk add Meal Breaks in timesheets. This is totally unproductive.

It is allowing us to move away from manual processes and cut down the amount of other platforms required.
