What do you like best about Gusto?

Employees have access to their paystubs on their own time. Prior to using this software, our finance manager was having to print and hand them out. It seemed to be a lot of work for her so we found this software. Once the employee creates their own account, they can log on and print them off or view the pay stubs. They can also save an electronic version that they can save on their computer if they would like. We can also track our own benefits, including how much we pay on our medical insurance and how much PTO we have. This gives employees more access to what is available to them. Performance reviews are available to view if the employer chooses to upload them. Employees can view the reviews and print them off when they may need them. We also like having the ability to choose a charity to donate to and the donations are built into the W2. This gives employees the ability to choose and makes them more likely to donate. The software tracks the donations, making it easier on the employee when filing income tax. I also liked that they communicate very well with the employees using the software. We receive updates when our supervisor approves our time off. We receive emails when we are going to receive our pay. In the pay emails, the software provides a summary of benefits earned, deductions, and pay for that pay period. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I felt pressured to sign up for Gusto wallet when I initially signed up. It was pushy and some may feel like they have to sign up for the account. The account can provide a savings but that is something I use my bank for. The fees were somewhere around 3% and if I understood correctly, the employee may elect to receive their paycheck in advance with that fee. I think this may be beneficial to some but not most. I just feel like some people may not realize and there are fees. This is the only thing that was questionable to me. Once set up is complete, I don't feel pressured day to day. They also offer a card option but before I signed up for the card, I checked and couldn't find any ATMs in the area where I live. I would have to travel outside of my town to find an ATM that would not charge fees. I do not like that they advertise getting paychecks up to two days early. This was deceiving and may not be the case. It depends on the payer and the employer. Employees may only sign up to receive their check early to find out they may not receive it early. This was the only thing that I disliked so far. Overall, the software has provided us benefits in all of the areas that we were lacking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Gusto:

If you want the software to work with your time clock I would suggest they double check it can be linked before purchase. I know that it works with On the Clock time clock but may not work with other software. It was the issue we had with our previous HR software. It also would be beneficial to check that the PTO function works with your business. If you are trying to encourage employees to donate to charities, this software automatically tracks and updates charitable donations garnished from each paycheck and adds it to the W2 of each employee electing to use this feature. This allows employees to have the power to determine where their donations go and tracks the information for tax purposes. We would also suggest using the performance review to keep reviews up to date and give employees access to their reviews. Employees can pull up reviews and print them. This ensures employees can improve in areas needing improvement by being able to pull up their reviews in real time. Employees can also compare reviews to see their own progress and determine areas of strength. This could be helpful for administrators in providing trainings. It is also helpful to be able to see all employees in the people section. As a grant writer, I can pull the org chart to use. Any of our HR employees can also use the org chart for tracking open positions and view employee departments. Administration can use to track the number of employees who fall under program or admin positions. I would recommend looking into all of these options as you shop around. We used another HR software that didn't have some of these options and we are satisfied with our change to Gusto. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our employees were using a time clock software and were putting their time into another HR software. This redundancy seemed to be excessive and would require more time of our employees. This software is linked to our time clock so employees are not required to input the time. They are able to see their PTO and the software also tracks PTO in a more efficient manner. Our employees are able to track their own time in real time. Our previous HR software would only update time at payroll dates, making it much more difficult for employees that don't have enough time to cover their absences. We also found that the employees have access to their paystubs which is helpful. Our finance manager only works two days out of the week so employees would sometimes have to wait three or more days for paystubs. This software provides access for those employees to print or save the paystubs on their own time. We also receive emails detailing our pay and deductions which is helpful to see without having to pull up the entire pay stub. We also receive email confirmations when PTO is approved and if there were any adjustments made by our supervisor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

I find Gusto incredibly user-friendly and scalable for my growing business. The platform's ease of setup and navigation, along with the useful updates, provide me with the confidence I need for expansion. Whenever I've needed additional clarity, the support team has been prompt, clear, and kind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I have not found any downsides to Gusto yet. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Having Gusto manage payroll, pay my business taxes and organize all necessary tax documents is a HUGE benefit... my business would not be successful without Gusto.

Even customer support goes above and beyond. I once asked for help changing hours per pay period and the customer support agent sent a very kind, detailed eMail with step by step guidance and arrows to highlight each section of that page. Once I saw the steps, it was quite intuitive, but I did not realize that the employee's name was a hyperlink and that was where all next steps were accessed. The agent was never patronizing or short on patience, and I hope that my profuse 'thank you!!' did a bit to communicate my deep appreciation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Pros:

Basic payroll functions work fine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

Cons:

Failed to properly handle state tax filings

Zero proactive communication about filing issues

Contradictory responses from support

Refused to take responsibility for their errors Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto filed an incorrect $0 tax return for our company despite knowing there was a $143.99 liability. They had an "open investigation" noted in their system but never communicated this to us. We only discovered issues after receiving penalty notices from the state. When confronted, Gusto provided contradictory explanations - first claiming Q1 taxes were owed but Q2 wasn't, then later reversing their position entirely.

Support repeatedly deflected responsibility despite clear evidence of their processing errors. As a payroll provider, their core responsibility is to handle tax filings correctly and communicate any issues proactively - they failed at both.

Bottom Line:

If you're considering Gusto, be aware that while their basic payroll functions work fine, their tax filing handling and communication can lead to unexpected penalties that they won't help resolve. Make sure to double-check all their state tax filings carefully. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Easy to use platform, bountiful features, INCREDIBLE customer support. In transferring to Gusto from Paychex, I immediately felt relief. I received excellent support during the implementation and integration of Gusto into our payroll processes and had to make very little changes. Almost every new company does that. Here is where Gusto differs in my mind. Their staff is STILL INCREDIBLE to work with on a regular basis, which is rare today to say the least. Customer service is out the window and the bottom line is the focus and this is the norm. Thank you Gusto for raising the bar. ANYONE can build a software platform!!!! What is rare is the positve, extremely helpful and intuitive system, backed by one of the best (if not the best) support teams I have ever worked with. I absolutely dispise being told "we don't" or "I can't" when dealing with customer service, which is something you don't hear from this team. Instead they use the approach I have for years in customer service: We don't have problems, we have solutions, and although we are unable to fullfill your original request, here are some options and things we can do. Thank you Gusto! Very refreshing to work with people that are knowledgable, empathetic, logical, and that have problem solving skills as well as customer service skills. Your teams kill it every day, thank you for all you have done and continue to do to make this portion of my job so much easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I have to be honest, and I know it may cause skeptisism about my review, but I can't think of anything that I dislike about Gusto, yet. LOL. Have I had issues, sure. Gusto quickly offered no -stress solutions. Is there restrictions that I have had to change operations around, yes. Gusto did their best to assist me in getting a solution in place that would minimize impact to our operations, while ensuring we are compliant. I aboslutely LOVE the lets find a solution mentalilty of everyone I have spoken to or chatted with @ Gusto! Don't lose that, I beg of you! It is what sets you aside from the seemingly endless list of payroll "providers". Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto assists us in keeping our company compliant, employees paid correctly and on time, and centralizing benefits for our employees. The cost savings alone was great but kind of worried me. However, so far Gusto is rocking it! Knock on wood: I have yet to have any payroll issues which was a regular occurence with our old provider. Doing payroll with my old provider was time consuming and almost neven went off without a hitch, and we pay weekly. Gusto saves me time, the company money, and offers incredible features and OUTSTANDING customer service. This would benefit anyone! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

GUSTO's integration of new employees is very easy to accomplish. I use GUSTO every day and even from home on my off days if I need to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Gusto?

Before Gusto, I used OnPay to run my payroll. With OnPay's reports being late, employees weren't paid correctly, and it cost me hours to set straight state and federal reporting, leading to hundreds to thousands in fines. I was stressed and felt cheated. So, I looked for a new app and found Gusto. It was only $5 a month more than OnPay, took about 10 minutes to set up, and in the years I have been with Gusto, I found every report accurately filed on time and customer service was always just a message or call away. Our employees not only got paid on time but also immensely enjoyed the interface. Now, I am almost arrogant about how sure I am. Gusto will file everything perfectly, and I feel so grateful that it's the least I need to worry about in running my business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

There's so many helpful features, sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, the onboarding process goes easy on you and there are lists so you can go one item at a time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Rippling is so much better. please use rippling Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

Gusto is perhaps the worst company I've ever engaged with for customer service. Any issue at all? Expect to be put on hold for 45 minutes + with zero insight to resolving the issue. Problems with your account? They will insist you complete the same verification procedures over and over. Have a question about your account? They will give you incorrect information and repeat over and over again there system won't allow you to update anything.

Quite literally the definition of insanity. If you have any self-respect and care about your time and sanity, use Rippling. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It makes the process of tracking hours and following the payment process much simpler. I can see where we are in the payroll process at any time, and it is not clunky or poorly executed.
