What do you like best about Hive?

My favorite part is the project management aspect. You can track various parts of each project through a progress tracker. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

I think the part I dislike the most is that some of the integrations are not that great and a little buggy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Hive:

I highly recommend this application for in house project management. Like I said above, my only issue is the integrations. I have tried connecting outlook and other applications and they never seem to update in hive no matter how long I wait. If these connections are not something that you are worried about then Hive is a great software for your team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am able to collaborate with my team incredibly easily since we all started working remotely. With each project, I can see the status of various stages of the project in "unstarted" "in progress" "In review" and "completed." I can move the todos through those stages while communicating with my team and collaborating the whole way. When my team first went remote, it was a completely new experience for most of them and the rest of the company. We needed a way, other than just email, to collaborate and track each other's progress on important projects. Hive was able to solve this for us. We looked at several other project management platforms such as Monday.com, and teams, but they just didn't make the cut when it came to ease of use and other important factors like price. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Addison Goff of Hive

Thank you for a great review, Michael! We're happy to hear that Hive is solving for your project management needs, and we've passed along your feedback to our product team. Thanks for being part of the Hive family!

What do you like best about Hive?

I love that you can forward emails directly to a board to create new Actions. The Status layout, which operates like a Trello board or Kanban system, is great for visual folks like me. The Status layout does offer some great features that Trello doesn't offer, like updating due dates to automatically track with recurring actions (so you don't create weekly actions with due dates that occur on the same day in the past, which Trello does.) I also like that almost everything can be color coded with labels, colored project titles, and avatars of users when assigning actions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

The full user vs. "guest" user system tied to billing is downright labyrinthian. It seems purposely designed to be confusing and difficult to manage. It almost feels like a dark pattern designed to confuse team administrators into overpaying, because its very easy to sign up for more seats accidentally than you intended, but very difficult to downgrade seats. It's also very difficult to manage outside users, see whether their status is full or outside user, and downgrade full users to guests. Any mistake or oversight on this can get expensive fast, as billing is tied to the number of full seats. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Hive:

Be really clear on what functionality you need for full users, as new seats become expensive very quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

Being able to organize tasks by status and place in the pipeline is removing a lot of followup questions between the team. There was a lot of "wait, is this card done? Oh no we can't archive it yet because we're waiting on such and such..." now we can move active Actions into a Waiting on the Client column so there's less ambiguity and back and forth among team members. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Hive?

I love having everything in one place, including notes, project plans, individual tasks tracking. Visibility is everything on the types of projects I work on as a UX designer, and Hive makes that easy. This easily replaces tools like Trello, spreadsheets, Word docs, Jira Kanban boards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

Collaborative editing in Notes is still a bit buggy. I don't understand the intention of the mail feature either. Small detail, but I wouldn't say I like that the Notes list panel out for simultaneous viewing alongside whatever page you're on. I find myself continually closing it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Hive:

Give it a try! It was a little overwhelming at first, but once we got a product walkthrough, it became very intuitive. It's well designed and well thought out. As I've used it, I found my needs have already been anticipated based on the features available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

Hive solves the problem of disjointed tools. Juggling Word docs. Hive gives us almost everything we need in one place. Improves team visibility and progress tracking across multiple initiatives and projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Addison Goff of Hive

Thank you for taking the time to leave this great review! We're happy that Hive helps you bring everything to one single place. We also appreciate your feedback about collaborative notes. You'll be pleased to hear that we are working on some really neat Hive Notes features right now. Stay tuned in the upcoming months -- we think it's going to be a game changer!

What do you like best about Hive?

The "My Team" view is very useful as a project manager. It goes me an overall view of my team's priorities for the day, week, or month. The resourcing tab is also very helpful, but I wish it could be populated without time estimates. Project leads love the status view to get an overall look at their project's health and the work ahead.

I also really like that I can create teams within my team and assign larger team milestones and tasks to everyone at once.

While I don't use the "my actions" as an administrator, my team members appreciate the clear layout and have told me that the interface makes it easy for them to schedule their time more efficiently and lets them plan ahead for the weeks to come. This also helps us cut down on the back and forth communication about priorities and deadlines. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

Setting up projects can be a bit clunky sometimes, especially if there are many subactions to assign. It would be great to have more easily accessible resources for things like automation and other time-saving solutions.

As mentioned, the resourcing feature could use some work. I wish there was a way to populate that tab without putting in times estimates. I just really like the view layout and wish I could get more out of it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Hive:

Make your goals clear to whoever is onboarding you to Hive so they can best explain the features. Not every team will benefit from the same tools or setup.

Also very important to properly onboard your team and encourage them to stick with it. It does get easier to use as it becomes a habit.

I would also reach out and get support whenever you need it. It's fairly easy to contact Hive and they are often quick to respond.

Definitely use it on desktop as opposed to the web-based version. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

We're creating efficiencies for our team members by having a transparent view of the work ahead, and a place to consolidate the resources they need to complete specific tasks.

Our team is also getting better at keeping a record of our time by trying to implement time estimates and actuals.

Next, we hope to use it for budgeting costs of hiring freelancers to supplement our in-house team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Hive?

It's incredibly easy to move your tasks and actions around. It creates the ability to link emails to tasks, link notes to tasks, and link tasks to multiple projects. If it becomes a bigger task (or smaller task) than you originally expected, the ability to convert existing information to either whole projects or subtasks without losing any information or needing to re-input any data is hugely convenient. The way it is set up, and the flexibility that is embedded in the entire system is perfect for a dynamic work environment with changing situations and expectations. We also heavily rely on the chat feature to make our remote team stays up to speed and connected. Being able to share notes with your team and email them to non-team members is also incredibly useful to us. It reduces our workload in our task management software, closes a lot of collaboration gaps, and allows for tracking from a management perspective that I did not have the ability to do before. And it allows me to do so quickly and with little effort, which reduces my "oversight" workload and allows me to focus on my core tasks. It makes it way easier for me to manage my team, whether it's because of COVID-related remote work, or when I am traveling, which I frequently have to do for our work. In the past it was hard to coordinate our team when I was overseas, but now I'm confident that when travel opens up again I'll be able to keep managing the work effectively and ensure things continue to progress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

I wish there was the ability to link emails to more than one task. Unfortunately, with the way emails work, people often discuss more than one task or project in a single email, and this is not compatible with the way Hive works, which limits the usefulness of that feature for us. I wish there was a way to do that - it seems like it would be a relatively simple fix, but maybe that's something that will come down the pipeline. They're updating things like that and various functionalities pretty quickly it seems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

We always lost track of tasks - especially small tasks. Because we're also able to create our own categories, we can track things how we need to track them for our workstream. Also, it allows us to quickly see the status of tasks without having to dig through emails. We previously spent a lot of time with "where did we leave that last" or "was that in our court now, or are we waiting on a response for someone" and looking through emails to find answers. The ability to quickly answer those questions with a few clicks - or even just looking at where the card is sitting, is a huge benefit and addressed this problem which wasted a lot of time and often led to errors. Because of this we are able to work more quickly, with fewer mistakes - which generally means more professionally. Particularly impressive for me was the ability it gave me to onboard somebody - a new employee - entirely remotely and fully integrate her into the team! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Hive?

There are multiple layers to Hive and the possibility of adding layers as you go along, which is excellent for managing large-scale projects. You can also use labels and subactions to provide you with more granular management of projects. I also really like the feature which allows you monitor the progress of the project, and the ability to add in new statuses to individual tasks within a project. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

When moving tasks from one project to another, depending on the setup, you may lose labels or people assigned to that particular task within the project. While this is not a huge issue, it may result in colleagues missing out on specific tasks, if it goes unnoticed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Hive:

To make full use of Hive, I would recommend using forms to allow your client to brief in any projects or updates. This way you can automatically assign labels and colleagues to your projects to ensure projects are picked up quickly, and any potential issues can be easily spotted. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

Working from home has meant delegating tasks requires numerous emails and back and forth with colleagues. With Hive, you can manage these back and forth communications in one place, on one ticket, drastically reducing the number of emails you receive on a day-to-day basis. Its also great when sharing large files as part of briefs from our client. Emails only allow for certain file sizes, especially when you and your client have conflicting internal work places i.e. google or microsoft, but with Hive large files such as videos can be uploaded with individual tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Addison Goff of Hive

Thank you for the great review! We love hearing that Hive helps you communicate and manage tasks while working from home. Your feedback about labels has also been passed along to our product team. Cheers!

What do you like best about Hive?

A lot of flexibility depending on what suits you. You can customize view options, have the option for a lot of add-on features, and just let Hive work the way it best suits you. I also like how Hive really cares about its customers, and has an option where customers can vote on which features they would like to see get implemented or fixed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

We were abruptly forced off our last project management software, and we found there was a long adjustment period, especially with the proofing (feedback, notifications, stages). It would be helpful if the proofing was more fleshed out. Also, proofing doesn't work as well for .gif and video files. We also wish there was an easier way to see a calendar view than 'summary view'. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

Hive helps increase efficiency among our team. While there's a lot of features we don't use (cloud integration, chat, etc.), the possibilities are rich. We also like how there's both annotations and comments feature to avoid unnecessary emails ;) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Hive?

I love the ability to communicate with team members on different tasks to ensure that the task is completed quickly and efficiently, with no duplicate work necessary. I also like being able to see everything in the calendar view to know what my week looks like and the status view to get a bigger idea of ongoing and completed projects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

I wish the date was easier to set, and that it let you see things in more of a week setting, like assign to this week, instead of just the deadline day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Hive:

Make sure to watch a tutorial video and explore all the facets of Hive. Also be sure to create action templates as those will save you a lot of time in the future. Make sure you explore every view too, so you can see everything that needs to be done or that has been completed so you are maximizing your time and not missing anything. My calendar view is my favorite to see personally what I have to do, and the status view gives a picture of what my whole team needs to do, that way if someone is overloaded we can step in and help out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

Hive saves a lot of time where normally you would spend your time asking for clarification or status reports on something, everything is clear and laid out for you. I also like the messenger to eliminate sending/ receiving even more emails, it ensures instantaneously clarification even when working with people remotely. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Hive?

Its a complete package which is user friendly and cloud collaborative. Very useful while onboarding consultants. It is easily accesible by the onboarded consultants along with inhouse users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hive?

The software is little slow while accesing it on mobile phone hence its not mobile friendly. Also email integration is quite complex, online updation of document is not available easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Hive solving and how is that benefiting you?

A complete project management solution used to manage tasks within huge teams, communicate in a more transparent way and easy access of logs to all the actions being performed on the resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
