## Gusto Reviews
 ### 1. Gusto Makes Payroll, Onboarding, and Tax Filing Stress-Free

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rajvir M. | CIO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use this website daily to do my business' payroll. The employees are able to get into the portal, download their own pay stubs and it has saved me much anxiety. And, the direct deposit of reimbursements works fine. One feature I really like about Gusto is that once an employee has completed all of their new hire paperwork, Gusto sends them an automatic email letting them know they need to complete the rest of their onboarding before their first day. Gusto’s tax filing features load in the back ground and never give me the headache of having to deal with all of the different local compliance issues.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think the mobile app for Gusto is terrible. There is quite a bit of lag/glitching with the employee portal (in comparison to running it through a computer), and I often get complaints from my employees who are trying to request time off through their phones. Another frustration I experience frequently is that if you decide to make a change, such as add a raise or pay adjustment to your employees in the system, the changes are automatically saved. So, you don’t have the option to “un-do” those actions. Therefore, you have to be extremely careful.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Everything used to be a nightmare prior to switching to Gusto. We used multiple separate spreadsheets, and manually calculated many items. Which caused us to make many silly errors during the busy parts of our week. Gusto now just lets us track time worked, PTO accrued and taxes withheld in one place so we won’t lose anything. It basically keeps me from spending the second half of my week doing basic data entry/paperwork.

 ### 2. Gusto Keeps Benefits and Performance Info Neatly in One Place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael S. | Senior GIS Consultant, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is really helpful for centralizing important information and features in one place. It’s great being able to review my benefits, performance info (goals and evaluations), paystub history, tax documents, and expenses all in one spot. I also appreciate how clean and simple the UI is, and the site feels responsive overall.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

As clean and simple as the interface is, some implementations feel too simple. For example, with my performance Goals, I’d like to be able to add updates to a Goal without being forced to apply a status. Sometimes I need to update goals that I haven’t started yet, but to add an update I’m required to “start” them first.

I’d also like Goal creation to include AI assistance for drafting Goals in specific formats (SMART, for example). Finally, I’d like evaluation templates to support nested templates, where a core template can be included inside other templates. This would be especially helpful when there are core competencies tracked for every role, even when those roles also have unique, role-specific competencies.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before migrating to Gusto, my company relied on a patchwork of HR systems. Now that Gusto centralizes that same functionality in one place, I no longer have to jump between different tools to get things done. It’s also helped the company save money by letting us drop redundant services we no longer need.

 ### 3. Gusto: Intuitive Payroll and Benefits That Saves Hours

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto has truly been a game-changer for my business. The platform is very intuitive, handles payroll and benefits smoothly, and has saved me countless hours of administrative hassle. I’d highly recommend it to any small business owner, especially if you want to stay focused on your day-to-day work instead of carrying the extra burden of payroll.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Honestly, I don’t have any complaints at all. Gusto is extremely intuitive and easy to use, and the entire payroll process feels so seamless that I haven’t run into any downsides. For me, the experience has been flawless from day one, and I also believe it’s priced appropriately.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Usto solves the nightmare of administrative paperwork and tax compliance. For me, the biggest benefit is the peace of mind: it takes care of everything in the background, so I don’t have to stress about the details. It saves me a ton of time and lets me focus on my projects instead of struggling with complex payroll systems. I’ve also heard they’re working on AI integration, which sounds promising.

 ### 4. Gusto Makes Hiring, Onboarding, and Payroll Effortlessly Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher N. | Managing Partner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto really streamlines our hiring and onboarding process and makes it easy for us to get an employee setup to work. The time tracking feature for our employee's hours is worlds ahead of pen and paper or other time clock apps and I appreciate the integrations that they have to supply us with worker's compensation insurance, health insurance, and retirement. Its ia one stop shop with transparent and fair pricing. It is so simple for us to run payroll for our company. Instead of spending a bunch of time processing payroll we click a few buttons and it is handled automatically, saving us a ton of time.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I don't really have any complaints about Gusto, it is a great payroll platform.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is saving us time across the board. It saves us time with onboarding, timekeeping, and payroll processing. Tasks that used to take a long longer are much more simple now and the interface to complete them is great. It really makes being a compliant employer so much easier.

 ### 5. Gusto makes tracking and splitting my pay so easy!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anna G. | Executive Assistant To Chief Executive Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It's been years since I started using Gusto and it still remains my favorite payroll app. I love how easy it is to find any information I need: whether it be my paystub or my tax information...it's all just a couple of clicks away. I also really love the paycheck tracker and how it keeps me informed of where my paycheck is as it's processing, this makes any delays visible way in advance and I can reach out to my boss if something looks out of place. I also really really love their pay splitter...so so easy to use and a great way for me to save!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Nothing! I love Gusto! Super easy to use and very user friendly!

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving the issue of keeping track of my pay and any info related to it. In the past, it was difficult to track down my paystubs or tax information. It also solves the problem of wanting to easily split my pay if necessary.

 ### 6. Super Simple Navigation and Onboarding Task Tracking

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lyanne S. | Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love how easy it is to navigate. I initially was concerned that it was going to be difficult to use since it was newer to us but it was super simple! I love the side panel and how it allows me to find what I am looking for in a quick and easy way. I love how it lets me welcome those who are onboarding and lets me know what tasks still need to be completed or what requests need to be fulfilled.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

At first it was that the app was hard to navigate compared to the web browser version but then I learned how to better navigate it and it became quick and simple.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Keeping things in one accessible location. From paperwork you have signed during onboarding to new agreements, to PTO requests. I love how it is a one stop shop. Also, when getting the tax forms it was simple and told you when you were getting the information.

 ### 7. Gusto is PERFECT for our business needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liz F. | bookkeeper, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Since my last review, Gusto has continued to exceed our expectations. What stands out most is how easy it makes payroll and employee management. Tasks that used to take considerable time are now completed quickly and accurately.

Our team appreciates the intuitive interface, and onboarding new employees has been seamless. Payroll processing has been reliable, giving us confidence that employees are paid correctly and on time. Whenever we've needed assistance, customer support has been knowledgeable and responsive.

The biggest benefit has been peace of mind. Gusto allows us to spend less time worrying about payroll and compliance and more time focusing on growing our business and supporting our team. We continue to be very satisfied with the platform and would recommend it to others.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

It's difficult to identify any major areas for improvement because our experience has been consistently positive. As the platform continues to grow, additional integrations and advanced features for larger or more complex organizations could provide even greater flexibility. For our current needs, however, Gusto performs very well.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All we have to do are enter our staff's hours and Gusto does all the rest. It is a wonderful system. As a user as well, I can pull up my app at any time and see everything I need to know about my personal info to include all pay information.

 ### 8. Gusto Makes Payroll and HR Simple and Seamless

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kaitlyn W. | BCBA, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

My favorite part about using Gusto so far is how easy it is to use. Everything is laid out clearly, and the tabs are well organized, which makes what I need simple to find. I also love that I can use it for payroll as well as guideline and other areas—it’s been amazing so far.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The part of Gusto that I find hardest to use is the insurance side of things. It sends me to a different site, and the insurance policies feel expensive.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s all in one platform and integrated with other platforms, which creates an easy, central place where employees can go to access what they need. Gusto’s support has also been helpful and has taken some of the load off our organization. That said, I think it could use more AI assistance to provide faster support and help improve the site’s overall performance.

 ### 9. Everything you want to know about your pay, benefits, and time-off clearly displayed.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andre F. | Design Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

One thing I've really liked recently is how Gusto has expanded its integrations. It feels much more connected to my overall compensation and retirement benefits, especially with IRA-related services. Even as more functionality has been added, the experience has stayed simple and intuitive. The different systems work well together, so I can manage and understand my benefits without feeling like I'm jumping between disconnected tools.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto does a great job simplifying healthcare enrollment and giving a high-level understanding of my benefits. That said, healthcare details are notoriously complex, and the more granular aspects of coverage such as specific treatment costs, provider nuances, or detailed plan comparisons are still difficult to surface within the platform.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating a clear visualization of the benefits package, as well as being able to communicate company structure and organization. Gusto has expanded the use-case from just payroll to anything benefits/compensation related and even keeping track of the org structure, and a new way to introduce new-hires.

 ### 10. Gusto Makes Contractor Payroll and Tax Docs Fast and Effortless

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Katie H. | Owner, Therapist at a private mental health care group, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I was very intimated to moving from being a solo private practice counselor to having a few peer contractors work within my group. Gusto was so easy to get them set up with 1099's. It takes approximately 1 min to do their pay each week. I also had an instance where a contractor may be moving out of the US and was happy/relieved to see there was an easy option for paying this contractor despite international lines.
I have only had positive interactions with customer service and rarely need to contact them in any way.
Another favorite thing about Gusto is the ability to create easy and personalized tax documents for my contractors. I have paid professionals in the past to do this for me, but nothing is better than doing it in gusto and saving that cost.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think Gusto does not understand the type of business that I own, so sometimes there are suggestions about taxes and legal pieces that are irrelevant to me. I think the intelligence on those elements could be improved.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is allowing me to keep all of my payroll information in one accessible place. It performs well in that I can click a button and see what I paid a contractor for last year or what their last 1099 looked like. It was helpful that direct deposit and clear information on timelines where integrated into the system. I have not integrated as many tools as I could and should exlore the routes that gusto gives me for even more assistance

 ### 11. I will never use another payroll provider unless something very drastic changes at Gusto.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jody C. | Bookkeeper, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto continues to beat out any other payroll provider I've ever used, after three years of experience with them. The website is simple and intuitive to use; the app gives all our employees a "self service" kind of experience. We haven't had any issues whatsoever with tax payments being made to the correct organizations, or with forms being filed correctly or on time. In a couple instances, I actually had the wrong tax percentage entered for our state unemployment insurance, and Gusto caught the error and corrected without any additional action from me. It all runs smooth as silk. On the rare occasion I need to contact them, it takes almost no time to get a smart and relatable human on the phone. I have at no time been punted to another person or had to call a second time, etc. They are great!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I wish they would do is combine the websites for Gusto and Guideline, which have now merged, so we don't have so many logins. Two logins for each of our businesses adds up. Additionally, with Guideline, now referred to as "Gusto by Guideline," PLEASE add the ability to enter an SSN for a beneficiary. Just entering a name and classifying the relationship does not impart any confidence whatsoever that that person will be contacted if the account holder does pass away.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll at two companies, and both integrated seamlessly with Guideline 401(k) management. Recently, Gusto and Guideline have merged, but I don't expect to notice much of a difference since it was already flawless before.

 ### 12. Payroll mostly ok, service not so much

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom L. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the service is fairly simple to use for when you need to run payroll. There are automated tools that do work but they require some fine tuning around timing, especially for international contractors.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Before allowing international contractors to change their mode of processing you should notify the company. We've had contractors change to another payment option and it costs us more money. We may be ok with that depending on the situation but notice would be best.

**Recommendations to others considering Gusto:**

Don't let the simplicity of Gusto fool you into thinking it's not enough. Behind the scenes, the Gusto system is comprehensive and ready for companies to scale. As always, do your research to make sure what Gusto offers meets your company's needs.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our primary issue was needing simple payroll that was easy for our admins to complete. We're seeing a serious time savings when running payroll and our employees love the new interface. However, state filing has not been good. we have had a couple of occasions over the past 6 months where we were charged late fees by a state. Gusto points the finger at anyone but themselves.

 ### 13. Effortless Setup—From Zero Payroll to Ready in Minutes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** James R. | Owner, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It was so unbelievably effortless to sign up as a one-person business owner. A few of the steps initially spooked me (like creating state tax accounts, etc) but at every step there was a helpful nudge from the software to do what I needed or they mentioned they'd take care of it for me.

I went from never having had a payroll service for my business to fully set up and ready to run payroll in 13 days in less than 15 minutes.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The payroll scheduling settings were a bit hard to understand initially. Took me a minute to understand the options and then know what to expect based on what I chose after that.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've never had payroll help before! Now I do! I'm so excited to take this burden off my mind and just know that it's done.

 ### 14. Makes Managing Payroll and Tax Documents Effortless!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Atreya M. | Director of Legal Research, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

As an employee who uses Gusto regularly, one of the things I appreciate most about the platform is how easy it makes it to access and manage important payroll information. I have been using it every year and it has always been helpful and reliable! Whether I need to review past paychecks, download pay stubs, access tax documents, or verify upcoming payments, everything is organized in a way that is intuitive and easy to navigate. I do not use payroll software every day, so having a platform that makes information readily accessible without requiring training is a major advantage.

Over the past year, I have also noticed continued improvements to the overall user experience. The dashboard is clean and straightforward, notifications are helpful without being overwhelming, and it is easy to find the information I need quickly. I especially appreciate having payroll records, tax forms, and benefits-related information centralized in one place rather than spread across multiple systems. The self-service functionality saves time and reduces the need to contact HR for routine requests.

Also, the breakdown of earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefits is clear and easy to understand. Having immediate access to historical records is particularly useful when preparing financial documents, vis applications, or reviewing compensation information. Features that may seem simple such as easily downloadable pay stubs and tax forms have consistently proven valuable throughout the year!! Thank you!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Nothing to improve this year! And amazing customer service. Thank you!!!

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me, it has eliminated the confusion and delays around pay stub access, paycheck tracking, and understanding payment schedules. I no longer have to guess when I am getting paid or dig through emails or HR portals to find old pay stubs, everything is centralized and easy to access.

One major benefit has been the ability to generate customized reports and export exactly the information I need for things like housing applications or visa paperwork. Gusto’s built-in reporting tools let me filter what I need, and when something is not obvious, customer support is right there to help. That level of transparency and control over my own employment records is something I really value. I live that I do not have to rely on a third party every time I need something.

 ### 15. Gusto Makes Payroll and Onboarding Simple and Organized

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eben G. | Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto is how simple it makes payroll, onboarding, and contractor payments. It saves a lot of administrative time, keeps everything organized in one place, and makes it easy for employees and contractors to access their pay information and tax documents. The automation and integrations are also very helpful for growing businesses.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I would like to see improved is better support for Canadian payroll and T4 processing. Since we work with international contractors and team members, having built-in Canadian compliance tools would make Gusto even more useful for our business.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is helping us simplify payroll, contractor payments, onboarding, and tax documentation all in one place. It saves a significant amount of administrative time, reduces payroll errors, and gives our team an easier experience accessing pay stubs and tax forms. As our business grows, having these systems automated helps us stay organized and operate more efficiently.

 ### 16. Gusto has made managing payroll and state tax filings across multiple states a real breeze!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jenna P. | Director of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Between managing our employee benefits, time-off, and payroll, Gusto makes the whole thing so smooth and seamless. It is so simple to add and edit details, manage historical information, access helpful reports, and it automatically takes care of so many of the important tax filings that would otherwise take me hours. Their customer service is incredible. The staff are kind, patient, helpful, and just so easy to work with. Using Gusto saves me not only time but it removes the stress from the HR and payroll process. I couldn't recommend Gusto more!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I have made errors in the past with the manual addition of benefits because rates vary a across staff and benefit level and it can start to get complicated when you have a lot of people, plans, and coverage options. However, I did make a pretty big mistake once and the Customer Service helped me resolve it across the board for all employees for the whole year and made me feel so much more confident that my end of year numbers were accurate.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Making cross-state new hires a breeze!
Putting all of our contractors into one place and making payments easy.

 ### 17. Incredibly User Friendly, Amazing Platform!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Natalie H. | Client Support Representative, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Another service that I found I really liked is the splitting up the billing option. I recently added a new bank account, and with that I was able to very easily connect and split my payments between different accounts. I have found they are also really great with updating my HSA account and making it clear how much money I can spend and how much money I have spent.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I'd like to know is that they did fix the issue with the Google login. One thing I would like improved would be seeing the pay time off that was accepted, declined, or pending a little bit more clearly. To me, it's not super intuitive. I think it should automatically be hidden until the user chooses to press on either pending, declined, or accepted PTO request.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The problems Gusto has solved for me has been clocking in and out with ease, and managing my times off. It benefits me by taking off the stress of managing my time punches and taking off. I feel like I can trust this platform and how user friendly it is

 ### 18. User-Friendly, Streamlined Payroll with Reliable Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lizette G. | Director of Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

We have been using Gusto for our payroll needs, and it has been an excellent experience. The platform is incredibly user-friendly, making payroll processing simple, efficient, and stress-free. Even for those who may not have extensive payroll experience, Gusto's intuitive design makes navigating the system easy and manageable.

One of the things we appreciate most is how streamlined everything is—from running payroll and managing employee information to handling tax filings and reporting. The software saves us a significant amount of time and helps ensure accuracy every pay period.

Gusto has made payroll administration much more organized and efficient for our business. The system is reliable, easy to use, and backed by great customer support whenever assistance is needed. I would highly recommend Gusto to any business looking for a payroll solution that is both powerful and simple to manage.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

We honestly have not had any downsides or issues utilizing Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have not had any problems with Gusto.

 ### 19. Easy and Reliable Payroll with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Viviana L. | Customer Service Rep, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I've continued to appreciate how easy Gusto makes payroll and employee management. The automated reminders and notifications help keep everything on track, and the employee self-service features make it convenient for team members to access their pay stubs and tax documents. The platform continues to save time and reduce administrative work.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Overall, Gusto works very well, but adding more functionality and flexibility to the mobile app would make the experience even better. Having access to all desktop features on mobile would be especially helpful for users who manage payroll and HR tasks while away from their computers.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll at my job, and it's honestly super convenient. I can see my paychecks, taxes, and even benefits all in one place. It's easy to use, fast, and I don't have to bug HR every time I need a pay stub or info for taxes.

 ### 20. Time Saver, Stress Reducer!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rachel S. | President, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 14, 2021

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I also like that Gusto proactively sends emails on financial related topics or changes in legislation that might affect my business.
Lastly, it is easy to pull a report anytime. I get it done in a jiffy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

As much as I appreciate the proactive emails, sometimes I feel that they waste my time as the topics are not as finely curated as they could be. I am a small business of two. I don't need freak out emails about legislation that does not apply to me.

**Recommendations to others considering Gusto:**

I tried several other Payroll companies over the years, one of the best business decisions I have made was to choose Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a small business owner, I wear many hats. I don't have an HR department or someone whose sole focus is taking care of matters like Payroll. With Gusto, I can feel confident that I am "doing things" correctly and quickly access reports when I need them. Gusto was a Godsend during the past year when I required information/reports for the Payroll Protection Program - both to apply for the funding and to apply for forgiveness. I had success all around! I couldn't have done it without Gusto.

 ### 21. Payroll is super simple with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel S. | Founder/CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I'm still only using Gusto for payroll and haven't used it for other benefits yet. But since my last review Gusto have really upped their game in making the experience and process even more user-friendly and as seamless as possible. From the dashboard when you log in, to completing a payroll literally takes seconds, provided there is no extra input required for that particular payroll. And even if there is, it's easy to do and very easy to navigate.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While they've definitely taken steps to make things easier to find, I still do find it a little confusing sometimes to find documents I might need. There's a clear menu bar on the left side, but even inside this menus sometimes it can be hard to find where documents are because the tabs inside the menu are not always so obvious. I know that these are things Gusto is actively trying to correct and get better at.

**Recommendations to others considering Gusto:**

I'm sure there are other payroll services out there that have been around far longer and offer far more. It goes without saying that it's worth checking them out and comparing depending on your company's needs. I know that for me and my company, Gusto is great.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Payroll is such a simple task that it is not a worry at all when it comes up. IN 2 minutes it's completely done. And if I ever receive anything in the mail regarding my payroll (either from the state or the IRS) I simply take picture of the letter, email or chat with their customer service and it gets taken care of. SO the benefits - practically no headaches with regards to payroll and major time saved.

 ### 22. User-Friendly Payroll with Very Little Challenges

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that Gusto is a very easy-to-use platform and user-friendly. It's got a built-in support system with live chat, so I can get help anytime. The initial setup was very easy with a step-by-step process that walks you through setting up each person on the payroll, applying their job title, and pay rates. It's pretty user-friendly, and I haven't had any complaints from the employees.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think that they give me a couple options. I wish it was different. They offer, like, a spreadsheet option and a legacy option when you're going to input payroll. I do have to hit the little toggle to legacy, because that's the way I am used to doing it. It's a kind of a double edged sword because I just wanted to use it one way. The idea of using it the other way could cause a little bit of a learning curve.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll, onboarding, W-9 info for contractors, and background checks.

**Official Response from Camden Q:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience with Gusto. We're happy to hear that our payroll system has been beneficial for you. We understand your concerns about the add-ons and will take that into consideration for future updates.

 ### 23. Affordable, Fully Automated Payroll with Reliable Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andy B. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Not only the price is great for our 3 person business, but it's all automatic. Payroll is run automatically. The state agency reporting is all done automatically. The W2's are ready. I literally generate reports as I want to and that's about it. When I needed help I got it no problem.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Like any other program you get used to the menus and where everything is but it didn't take long.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As owner/operator I have many hats. This takes a big part of my HR and finance hat off of me in a big way. I couldn't afford to pay someone to do my payroll and then what else would they do all week? It's great to have this one main function handled for me for a great price. Well worth it.

 ### 24. Easy Access to Historical Pay Info and Tax Documents

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kelsie K. | Summer Analyst, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like how I can see historical information and the rate of pay that I get. It was amazing to come back for a second-year summer internship and see the historical pay and timing of pay that I had last year. It was also super easy to file my taxes and access the information even though I hadn't logged into the system for months!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I disliked how it kept sending me emails to file my taxes when I already filed them. I wish that there was an option to say I already filed them and opt out of the reminder emails since they were not applicable anymore.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes it super easy to see the taxes and how it effects my paycheck. I love the graphs. It makes it super easy to see how taxes are effecting my paycheck.

 ### 25. Reliable platform for payroll and HR management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Max F. | Chief Executive Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is simple to use and makes payroll, benefits, and employee management easier to handle in one place. The interface is clean, the steps are easy to follow, and it helps reduce the amount of manual work needed for regular HR and payroll tasks. I also like that it keeps important employee information, tax documents, and compliance-related items organized, which makes it easier to stay on top of things as the business grows.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Some areas can feel limited when trying to find very specific forms, reports, or advanced settings. The platform is generally easy to use, but certain items may require extra searching or support guidance. More visibility into where specific employer documents are located would make the experience even better.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps centralize payroll, employee records, benefits, taxes, and onboarding in one system. This saves time, reduces manual tracking, and gives the business a more organized way to manage HR responsibilities. It also helps create a more professional employee experience without needing a large internal HR team.

 ### 26. Gusto Eliminates Back-Office Friction with a Best-in-Class UI and Seamless Integrations

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | Chief Operating Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best is that Gusto completely eliminates back-office friction. When you’re running a multi-site P&L and driving EBITDA expansion, you can't afford administrative bottlenecks. Gusto installs the operating rigor I need to scale teams seamlessly from day one.

Here are the specific features that drive the most value for my operations:

Best-in-class UI/UX: Instead of wrestling with clunky legacy HR software, the intuitive interface saves my team hours every week processing multi-state payroll and compliance.

Seamless Integrations: The platform connects effortlessly with our existing financial stack. This workflow improvement automatically feeds clean, real-time labor data directly into my weekly EOS scorecards, speeding up our decision-making.

Guideline 401k Addition: This was an unexpected benefit that turned out to be a huge plus. It seamlessly integrates directly into the payroll process, allowing us to roll out competitive, enterprise-grade retirement benefits with zero administrative bloat.

It delivers the exact performance and ROI I need to keep the leadership team focused on aggressive revenue growth rather than manual paperwork.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While the software itself is phenomenal, the moment an issue requires human intervention, the execution cadence completely breaks down.

Their customer support is painfully slow and, frankly, weak. If you run into a complex, multi-state tax issue or a compliance edge case that falls outside their automated UI, getting a knowledgeable human on the phone or a timely resolution becomes a massive bottleneck.

For a platform that I rely on to eliminate administrative friction, waiting days for support to resolve a critical payroll or benefits issue creates the exact operational drag I hired them to prevent.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solves the problem of back-office bloat and administrative friction. When you are scaling a multi-site operation and expanding into new markets, managing payroll, compliance, and benefits can easily become a massive resource drain.

The primary benefit is execution intensity. By automating the heavy lifting and integrating seamlessly with our financial stack, Gusto eliminates the need to build a massive internal HR department. It gives me clean, real-time visibility into labor costs, which feeds directly into my weekly EOS scorecards. Ultimately, it keeps my leadership team out of the administrative weeds and 100% focused on driving revenue growth and expanding EBITDA.

 ### 27. Intuitive platform working to make SMB Owners' lives easier

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Annie M. | Digital Marketing Strategist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto recently updated its contractor payment interface to appear more table-like and more itemized—chunking out base pay, tips, overtime, and reimbursement. We're able to see all the important info without too much scrolling and can easily visualize payments across different contractors.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Looking forward to seeing how the newly announced AI agents improve the platform though I'm wary of how over-investment in AI tools means other areas of the product are neglected. I hope a balance is struck.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is a one-stop shop for our agency. We don't have to log in to a bunch of different spots or bog someone down with emails related to PTO, payroll, performance evals, etc.
The tutorials and insights were super helpful for onboarding so I feel like all of the employees have a solid grasp. What's great too is that employees can really customize their experience and set up their own dashboards.

 ### 28. Gusto Makes Payroll Effortless with Powerful Integrations and Great Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert K. | Controller, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto simplifies payroll processing at it's core and makes it a very efficient, user-friendly, pain free experience! The helpful features are endless and the integration opportunities beyond payroll (benefits management, expense reports, bill pay, etc) are such a value add for the cost point. They Customer Support team is vast and there are numerous ways to get in contact with them depending on your preference.

Overall, Gusto is the best-in-class and I would recommend it to companies of ANY size that want the best possible experience!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Our only current downside is that our 401(K) plan does not have a direct feed/integration opportunity, but we're looking into switching to a provider that integrates seamlessly with Gusto for less manual work and room for human error.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pay subcontractors was always a cumbersome process. Now, we're able to seamlessly integrate them into the Gusto platform, pay them in a timely manner and have 1099s processed at year-end for us with ease.

 ### 29. Easy Payroll, But Support Needs Work

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** India H. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto allowed me to pay my team on a timely fashion. It's easy to use. Looking at the reports is very easy, and it helps me keep track of what I pay, how much I pay, and why I pay my staff. The initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I have trouble reaching customer service when I have an issue. I use the chat feature and it told me I had to email them to report the issue I was having with my client's payroll. It's been over three weeks, and I still haven't heard a response yet.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto lets me pay my team in a timely fashion. Looking at the reports is very easy, and it helps me keep track of what I pay, how much I pay, and why I pay my staff.

 ### 30. Effortless Payroll, Taxes, and Onboarding with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keshav B. | Dr, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Automated Payroll & Taxes: Gusto handles local, state, and federal payroll taxes automatically, which is a massive time-saver and compliance lifesaver.

Easy User Interface: Unlike legacy HR software, Gusto is clean, modern, and incredibly easy for both administrators and employees to navigate.

Seamless Onboarding: Adding new hires, setting up direct deposits, and signing digital W-4s/I-9s takes minutes

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Tiered Pricing: Some of the best features, like priority support and advanced HR tools, are locked behind the higher-tier, more expensive plans.

Support Response Times: While the help center is comprehensive, reaching a live support agent can sometimes take longer than expected during peak payroll cycles.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto integrates digital time-tracking directly into the payroll system. Your staff can clock in and out via an app, and their hours—including overtime and approved PTO—automatically sync to the payroll run. You can review, approve, and pay your entire team in just a few clicks.

 ### 31. Perfect Payroll Balance for Small Businesses—Fast, Intuitive, and Great Value

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priscilla A. | Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto has been a great addition to our small business. We have fewer than 25 employees, so we don’t need a lot of extra bells and whistles. That said, we do need strong compliance support and a payroll process that runs just as efficiently as it does at larger companies. Gusto has struck the perfect balance for us, at a price point that can’t be beat.

The system is incredibly user-friendly and intuitive. Anyone with even a basic understanding of payroll can use it. We also use the time-tracking feature, which has worked perfectly for us, and it includes geo-tracking—something that’s important for monitoring our staff’s performance. The system provides plenty of reminders, which helps ensure payroll is always run on time. Reports are downloadable as well, so our CPA and managers can easily access the information they need to do their jobs and integrate into their systems for accounting and performance reviews. For example most reports has a .csv download feature which is easily uploaded into most systems. Additionally, the quick function of all features has been great. I didn't expect to be able to run payroll so quick! They must have a bunch of AI features in the background helping me out!

My one hiccup has been support. I haven’t had the best experience getting issues addressed, especially over the phone, and I ultimately had to find a workaround for what I needed. Even with that, I’ve been very impressed with Gusto overall.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

As I mentioned in my main review, the support hasn’t been as ideal as I would like. I called and emailed about a problem I was having with time-off accruals, but I never got a response, and no one I spoke with on the phone could help. Each person told me they would escalate the issue, but it still didn’t get resolved. In the end, we agreed, internally, to manually track our accruals outside of the Gusto system. This limited the integration we were hoping to have with Gusto. That’s unfortunate, but it was the only workaround we had after being unable to get it fixed through Gusto. For all other issues, the AI and online support have been good enough.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I mentioned in my main review, we’re not a large company. A lot of payroll processing providers include tons of features we simply don’t need, and they of course charge for them. Since we don’t use those extras, we didn’t want to pay for them. Gusto fits this need perfectly: we can add or remove what we need and pay only for what we actually use. On top of that, the system feels just as sophisticated as some of the bigger providers, which gives us confidence in relying on it for such an important part of our company.

 ### 32. Easy Payroll Compliance and Automated 401(k) Contributions

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebecca H. | Parent Volunteer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I manage my own payroll so I can easily stay compliant with reasonable salary requirements. I also automate my 401k contributions and keep deductions consistent and standardized with every payroll run.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The setup was more complicated than it needed to be. I wasn’t guided clearly through the details of setting up payroll for our owner-employee arrangement for my husband and me. Gusto does have the options built in, but it still took some time to get everything set up correctly and to connect with the right person for help.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest surprise has been how flawlessly it handles year-end compliance and tax filings. I originally adopted Gusto just to simplify cutting checks, but its built-in S-Corp tax handling completely eliminated the headache of calculating and remitting federal, state, and local taxes. It even generates and files all necessary W-2s and 1099s automatically at no extra cost, meaning I never have to worry about missing a filing deadline.

 ### 33. Simple, Fast UI That Makes Finding PTO and W-2 Info Effortless

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Angie K. | Director, Client Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

As an employee, I find the user interface very simple. The home page and desktop shows all of the options in a quick to view screen. This saves me lots of time to search for the information I am looking for. The system is fast and once on the page I am looking for, it provides simple and easy to understand information whether for my remaining PTO time or my W2 form. It saves me time to get the information I need.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I literally have not had a negative experience with any of the features that I use.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I worked for another company and the HR software was clumsy and the tabs where I needed to access information were buried in the navigation buttons. It took a long time to finally click to where you needed to go. Gusto is a welcomed experience for me in that the navigation buttons are organized logically it speeds my time to find something and allows me to review and retrieve the information I need fast. The time-saving aspect and organization of this site is a huge benefit to me.

 ### 34. Gusto Makes Payroll and HR Simple, Organized, and Automated

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Keici P. | HR Coordinator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like most about Gusto is how simple and organized everything is. Payroll, onboarding, benefits, and employee management are all in one place, so it makes daily tasks a lot easier to handle. The interface is clean and user friendly, which helps a lot especially when training new employees or trying to complete things quickly. I also like that most processes are automated, so it reduces manual work and chances for errors.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I don’t really like is that sometimes certain settings or admin options can be harder to find than they should be, especially if you don’t use them often. There are also a few limitations when it comes to customization and reporting compared to some larger platforms. Nothing major, but small improvements in those areas would make the experience even better.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps simplify a lot of HR and payroll processes that normally take a lot of manual work and follow-up. It keeps employee information, onboarding, payroll, documents, and benefits all in one place, which makes things much more organized and easier to manage day to day. It’s also helped reduce errors and save time, especially when handling onboarding tasks or payroll updates for multiple employees. Overall it makes processes smoother and more efficient for both admins and employees.

 ### 35. Easy Setup, Straightforward Daily Use, and Reasonable Fees

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John G. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

After getting pricing from banks and accounting/CPA firms, there was really no comparison for a small business—choosing anything else didn’t make sense to me. The main advantages are the easy setup, how straightforward it is to use day to day, and the reasonable fees (our monthly fee is $56).

Customer service was a little hard to reach at first, but once I got someone on the line, it was very good and genuinely helpful.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Aside from the challenge of reaching a customer support person by phone—which seems to be a weak point for nearly every company these days—I have no complaints. Once I had someone on the line, they were able to log into my screen and guide me through the menus so I could make the adjustments I wanted.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was looking for a payroll service that’s reasonably priced and easy to use, and this one fits what I needed.

 ### 36. Simple, Reliable Payments to My USD Account—Fast, Secure, and Professional

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ronnie Z. | Customer service, technical support & Sales, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like most about Gusto is how simple and reliable it makes the payment process, especially as a freelancer in LATAM. The payments arrive quickly and securely directly to my USD account, which gives me peace of mind and makes managing finances much easier. I also appreciate how professional and organized the platform feels compared to other payment methods, especially with lower fees and a smoother overall experience.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I would improve about Gusto is giving freelancers and employees more flexibility to choose their withdrawal or payment schedule preferences. For example, After the money is my Gusto balance, I'd love having options to select weekly, twice per month, monthly, or quarterly payouts would make the platform even more convenient and customizable based on each person’s financial needs and preferences.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving one of the biggest challenges for international freelancers: receiving payments securely, quickly, and with lower fees. What benefits me the most is the ability to receive USD directly into my USD account without being forced into currency conversion, which helps avoid unnecessary exchange losses and extra charges. It makes international payments feel much smoother, more transparent, and more professional.

 ### 37. Affordable, Easy Payroll with Excellent Customer Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristy W. | Founder/CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The price is hard to beat. It takes a while to get set up, but the customer service is usually great and helpful - so that's another plus. Once you are set up, the payroll is extremely easy to run (better than other platforms I've been on). I'd recommend this to anyone looking to simplify, cut costs and have a go-to for benefits and the like.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Moving to any platform can be difficult, particularly if you've been in business as long as I have... finding all the required state/tax numbers, inputting them correctly, etc. Other than that, Gusto has been great.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has saved me a ton of monthly payroll. I also like that you can run as many payrolls as needed for the same price. Customer service is great as well.

 ### 38. User-Friendly, All-in-One Platform with a Lifesaving Parafin Payroll Bridge

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** No Comment W. | owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that everything is integrated into a user-friendly platform. I don’t feel like I have to be technologically proficient to understand and use the software. Also, the Parafin payroll bridge has been a lifesaver a few times while we wait on working capital.
Being able to compare benefits side-by-side without having to have a phone call has been very useful, and while I haven't actually switched to one of those options, it does allow me to stay confident that the benefit we do have are the best for our business.
My favorite feature is that the employees can add and change their banking and personal information without additional work on my end.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

So far I haven't had any issues except that changing the payroll periods and dates can be a little bit tedious and confusing. Fortunately, once that is set up it is very simple.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Employees can update their profiles and pay preferences without needing my input, which is very convenient and saves me time.

 ### 39. Great Graphics and Easy Onboarding Make Payroll Feel Effortless

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Elyse B. | Director of Human Resources, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the graphics for Gusto, which make processing payroll seem not as mundane as other sites. The documents feature and onboarding is also really helpful and easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Creating tasks for onboarding feel too bare bones, I'd like to be able to attach documents and other things to tasks but have been unable to do that. I also haven't had much luck with Gusto AI chat, so I have to go to Google to find answers to my questions.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has really made it easy to do background checks and drug testing. So now we don't have to go through third parties. Having it all in Gusto makes it easier to keep track and save all necessary documents. I like the Checkr and Middesk features best because it takes the guess work out of background checks and tax info.

 ### 40. Easy-to-Use Payroll with Seamless Integrations and Reliable Performance

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amber S. | Dental Hygienist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is a payroll system that’s very easy to navigate and gives me all the specific information I need to understand my paycheck. It also provides my end-of-year tax information, which is really helpful. I’d recommend it to any employer as the price is quite reasonable. The platform integrates with all of our existing software with minimal effort. All of my coworkers have had positive experiences with it as well, with the system performing well as far as speed and reliability. The platform does offer an AI Assistant, Gus, if you need any assistance. Onboard was quite easy and support is available to make the process seamless. Plus, I enjoy the cute little pig icon!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

It is difficult to actually find any faults with this system. I have used multiple platforms in the past, and this one stands out as a winner. My only complaint is that it rounds up my hours on the email notification and that is a little bit confusing. The pay stub has a more accurate accounting of my hours worked

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps me by making it easy to look up all of my paystubs in one convenient location. Prior to this, the employees only had paper paystubs, which could easily be misplaced. Now all of the employees have access to all of their payroll information instantly in an easy-to-use platform

 ### 41. My experience with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda B. | Payroll Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I am a Payroll Specialist for an Accounting and Bookkeeping firm, so I use Gusto along with another well known platform to perform all of my payroll tasks. I can say that there are certain things that I like a lot more on Gusto then on the other platform, such as ease of navigation across the platform, helpful, generally knowledgeable and friendly customer service and multiple different options of contacting customer service including chat, (which I use most frequently) email, phone call (when the lines are open) or a call back feature. They have a pretty helpful knowledgebase if you are trying to resolve an issue on your own as well. I did utilize their certification programs when I was first learning how to navigate Gusto as well, which I found very helpful and being able to add the badge to my signature lets our clients know that I have done my due diligence to learn the ins and outs of the Gusto platform. Gusto has a ton of useful features to offer it's clients, and we also use Gusto for our own payroll platform, so I use it as a user as well as an Administrative role and find ease of navigation to be across the board as both types of users.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

So far with my personal experience, there have been a few areas that could use improvement. I have had a few encounters with customer support, primarily through chat, that have given out incorrect information which lead to further interactions needed with customer support for the same issue. There have been numerous bugs and issues on the site that I have needed to report as well. There are still a few features that clients would like to see Gusto develop, such as options for Roth 401k deductions (post-tax), as one example. I have also been told on numerous occasions by customer support that I would be contacted further about a specific issue, and never heard back from anyone regarding my case. I have also requested call backs and never received any call back.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to sell a lot of our clients on Gusto's payroll services, which helps our business grow and gives our clients confidence in our abilities to handle their payroll with precision and care on a trustworthy and fairly priced platform.

 ### 42. All-in-One Time Tracking and Payroll That Keeps Everything in One Place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leon G. | CEO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I personally use Gusto mainly for the time tracking / logging in & out part of it. It’s also pretty easy to correct/fix errors when you make them as well. No searching for items in multiple places. And the fact that my paychecks, time off requests, etc…are all located within the same site, has saved me the trouble of being logged in to 3 different sites (at 10pm) trying to see if I was paid correctly.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The Gusto Mobile App leaves a lot to be desired compared to the full Gusto Desktop version. For example, many items are either hidden somewhere or missing altogether and it is frustrating when the only platform you can access Gusto is via the mobile app. Additionally load times can be long…especially when accessing payroll. While my couch may be comfortable, I don’t want to spend that much time waiting to view information. The recruiter side of Gusto appears to be “half baked” as well.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to using Gusto; managing employee work schedules/time keeping records…as well as verifying/paying employees was a huge task. In addition; Gusto provides a single log-in point for all of our time related needs (time-off, pay-history, time-tracking); therefore we are not required to send emails to HR each time someone wants to verify their own information.

 ### 43. Gusto AutoPilot Makes Payroll Practically Hands-Off

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucas B. | Mechanic, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The single best thing about Gusto is its AutoPilot feature. If your team consists of salaried employees or hourly staff with steady schedules, you can virtually eliminate "payroll day" from your calendar. You set the schedule once, and Gusto automatically calculates, runs, and deposits the money.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto lets you manage employee health insurance benefits directly in the app, but they act as the broker. Right now, Gusto’s health insurance brokerage services are only available in certain states. If your business operates in a state they don’t cover, or if you already have an external insurance broker you like, integrating your existing benefits into Gusto’s automated deductions can feel very clunky and may require a manual workaround.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At its core, Gusto eases the headache of administrative fragmentation and regulatory anxiety by turning high-stakes business chores into a more automated, single source of truth. By automatically calculating, filing, and paying local, state, and federal payroll taxes in the background, it reduces the constant worry about costly IRS mistakes and compliance audits. It also smoothly manages everything from digital, paperless employee self-onboarding to sending clean, correctly categorized data directly into accounting software like QuickBooks.

 ### 44. Easy Goal Tracking and Performance Reviews in One Place

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mandy R. | Bookkeeper, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the performance section for recording and tracking goals. I like that the manager can see it and it makes it an easy platform to measure success. Being able to see your past reviews also helps when writing yours each time.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I don't think there is anything specific that I don't like about Gusto. The features are user friendly. It is easy to track past documents you have been provided or signed. It would be nice to have more info under the benefits tab about your benefits or links to access the info outside of Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use to track time on excel sheets that would manually be entered for paying. Costing time and more personnel. Gusto helps us to streamline this. It also helps take care of state specific info since we are a remote global organization. It would be nice if people outside the US that are employees could use it as well.

 ### 45. Fast, Free Mobile Time Tracking with Easy Setup and Fingerprint Sign-In

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Max C. | Software Development Intern, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I quite like how easy it is to track all my hours from my phone and I don't have to use a time clock and stuff - I have not tried using any integrations with it before, but I would say it connected well well with the security features on my phone like the fingerprint sign in. It was really easy for me to get set up the first time I used it, and when I moved to a second job that also used gusto, it was very easy. It is completely free for me to uses so. Ia always appreciate that. On my phone, it is always super fast and does not use a lot of data which is nice in case I am working far away. I actually really appreciate that the app is kept simple and does not have any chatbots or other ai features. Where they do use ai, it is just like computer vision stuff that actually makes life easier.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I wish there was better support for phone apps - my phone only worked for one of my jobs and then there was something like "its not implemented for this company yet" or something. I have not had a company that used slack integrations because both said they were kind of useless. I wish there was some integration between Jira and the "performance" section of Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Working remote, gusto is helping to make sure that I have accurate pay and easy time card management. This is much better than using sheets or something similar like my previous job and it makes sure that pay is always accurate and fair.

 ### 46. Easy to Use, Excellent Support, and Seamless QBO Integration with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cynthia T. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The ease of use is excellent. Support is always quick to respond, answering my questions professionally, promptly, and in a friendly manner. I’ve never run into any errors, and the performance of the software is top-notch. I’m paying a LOT less for Gusto than I did with my previous payroll software. Gusto integrates perfectly with my QBO, and the option to utilize Gusto's AI features is great, too.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The only thing I would change is having the ability to add classes to the journal entries during the sync with QBO. Right now, I have to manually add classes to the JEs that Gusto creates when I run payroll. Hopefully, this will become an option in the near future.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our monthly subscription expenses have decreased considerably. I’ve saved at least 5–10 hours each workweek since we switched to Gusto. The reminders Gusto gives for completing tasks are very helpful, especially because it’s easy to get distracted in this office when so much is going on. Having Gusto prompt me to finish what I need to do keeps me on track and helps ensure tasks don’t get missed.

 ### 47. User-Friendly, Time-Saving Guidance That Simplifies Complex Payroll Tasks

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Susan J. | Artistic Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 01, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

It is very user friendly. I like that Gusto gives me tasks so I can just complete them. I also like that it takes the guess work out of doing very complicated government and left-brain work. Knowing that I just have to log in and follow instructions saves me hours of brain energy and frustration.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Some of the "tasks" seem necessary but upon further investigation, it feels like Gusto is trying to suggest something that I don't need but think I do in order for Gusto to sell me that service.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solving the payroll set up was massive. I really didn't know how to do it and Gusto walked me through it step by step. It saved me so much time and energy while also giving me peace of mind.

 ### 48. Fast, User-Friendly Platform, but Onboarding a Second Payroll Needs Smoother Setup

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah R. | Undergraduate Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the simplicity and how user friendly the platform is. It does a good job of integrating information and allowing for easy acess to these tools. Gusto is very fast and reliable and updates information quickly. I feel that I am getting my moneys worth with the platform. Onboarding was a bit of a struggle when it came to me adding my new company, the customer support was alright, and I neded up solving the issue in the end. I have yet to notice any artificial intelligence tools but I think that could be a helpful tool to capitalize on. I do like the automation smrt feature of the W2 forms for signing them it makes it very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto made the onboarding process for my new company a bit challenging. I think a smoother system to allow a second payroll option would be helpful, rather then needing to make a whole new account for the second payroll.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes payroll simple, makes understadning the tax system very easy, with reports easy to acess.

 ### 49. Gusto Makes Payroll Fast, Easy, and Stress-Free—even in a Time Crunch

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amarisa B. | capacity building manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is easy to use. I have very little experience with payroll before and have enjoyed how easy and quick it is to use while in a time crunch. I like the ability to be able to enroll into workshops to learn more and become more educated. I was able to use AI to figure out how to get my staff paid on time due to the holiday and it answered all my questions even when I did not know how to phrase my questions. The server is always quick and I am able to even effeciently use the mobile version

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I was notified a little later than expected about the holiday discrepancy and it affected our pay date.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

being able to have easy access and tracking of payments and time off hours!

 ### 50. Gusto: A One-Stop Shop for HR and Employee Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher D. | Routesetting and Facilities Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

As both an employee and a manager of other employees, I really appreciate how Gusto acts as a one-stop-shop for HR and employee-detail management needs. I can easily look up and edit both my own information as well as review and suggest changes for employees who report to me.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

As a manager of employees who work in different departments across our company, we've had to figure out ways to provide ancillary formal feedback outside of the formal review, as that appears to currently be restricted to one manager per employee. It would be nice to be able to define multiple managers for employees and allow multiple managers to provide formal reviews to one employee who works in different departments.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's very helpful to have so much employee information easily accessible and manageable in one platform. As an employee, being able to access bot my own details, paychecks, 401k stats, etc. in one place is very nice and saves time. As a manager, I find Gusto equally useful in tracking important employee information and providing feedback.
