Smartsheet is very useful for our organization because it has online capabilities. We had previously been using microsoft office Excel and it was hard to constantly be saving and resaving the document, to me the best thing about smartsheet is that it is live. It has a much simpler interface than anything on microsoft and is much easier to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Every report must have the exact same information as the master sheet. So if you have different reports that would be better suited to have different information, you need to have separate columns where you document it and then only include the necessary columns. Also, each smartsheet line does not have it's own "number" so if you are referring to a line number and then it gets sorted or rearranged, that line number is irrelevant. If you want to give each line a number, you may do so yourself.
You also cannot have a form edit or reference an existing smartsheet line. I get why you wouldn't have that, so people don't fill out your forms and screw up your data, but I often have to manually reconcile duplicative or redundant data that was supposed to go in another line. Smartsheets work great at tracking data and presenting it in an easy-to-read format via dashboards options with charts and graphs. We primarily use it to create forms and track responses. We use the workflow feature to assign tasks for each form response to make sure it's reviewed by the appropriate people and completed. Having a dashboard feature makes it easier to visually share large amounts of data and information. We utilize our dashbaords to have forms, important information/reminders and data all in one snapshot.
Working in higher education, we often have to share data accross colleges and this makes for a much better solution than other options. I like that the data can be shared across teams and that you can manage who has access to specific items.
Smartsheets also offers several different types of pre-built templates that you can utilize instead of starting from scratch. These can be helpful if you can find a version that works for your needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It does not have quite the same functionality as Excel, so if you are looking to splice your data in different ways, it is not the best tool. Also, I have run into issues with copying and pasting data from excel, which makes for more work to type data out manually. I'm used to pivot tables and quickly adjusting the information so this take a little more time to finesse the information.
Smartsheets also require a fair amount of training to understand how it works. If you are tech-savvy, you will likely pick it up faster than others. Once built out, Smartsheets functions better for those who are less technically inclined. They do have some templates but they are for a very specific purpose and not suited to some of the situations we need. I have been able to use them to as a starting point but it can be cumbersome to edit. It's almost as much work to start from scratch.
At times it does seem a bit clunky but they have been making some small improvements over time. I'm hoping they can allow for additional transferablity of data to/from other sources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like that it is flexible and able to be customized so minutely. If you can think of something you want automated or connected across sheets and reports and portfolios you can most likely do it. You get so many options to move forward and great workable templates/ Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The learning curve can feel large to the average user. Smartsheets almost has its own language when you first get started that you have to understand and requires constant tutorials or googling to find what you might need. Once you get it down it gets much more straightforward. I also dislike that some of the best automation tools are behind expensive paywalls like Control Center. I like using smartsheets and the different settings that it to help you visualise your timings. This helps me as being dyslexic sometimes I find large blocks of text hard to digest, so the various styles to see it are a good feature.
Easy to use and get the hang of one you know how - I use it every day for work. It's easy to implement across projects and integrates well with templates etc. I've never had any issues and haven't needed to speak to customer support or anything so that's good! Sometimes I find it difficult to format my sheets, like making sub sections with indents can be a bit clunky sometimes. I think this could be improved as it's quite time consuming when it's not going to plan and can be a faff. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have really enjoyed using smartsheets over the past 2 years. It's been a comprehensive way to link various sheets together to ensure that data is showing correctly in multiple places instead of having to remember to update multiple spreadsheets. I love using the dashboards as a place to easily see information from multiple sheets. The built in logic on the survey forms is also a neat feature that I've enjoyed learning how to use. The one thing I don't love about smartsheets is that it's fairly complicated and takes a little while to learn how to use. Sometimes the look of the sheets feels overwhelming to me as sheets can get very long, and the task lists can be long. The use of the right click isnt really there, and generally its less intuitive than excel or Google. You also have to save your work which at times I have forgotten to do. Smartsheet makes it easy to organize projects, which is crucial in our line of work where there's so many moving parts. To be able to see progress is a function that can't be understated. SmartSheet is also extremely easy when you get into the hang of it, we use it every single day for project management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only dislike is how the screen size affects the width of SmartSheet. It has sometimes created issues for remote working when away from managers, but it's been an easy thing to get over. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
For me it is easy to use. I came from using Excel and other platforms and was worried if I could learn a new platform. But, Smartsheet has made it easy to learn and adapt. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't have a downside as my use of smarsheet is basic for AR trackers, schedule etc. but sometime I do get lost in a lot of symbols on the side bars. I feel work screen gets crowded with all the options. May be there is an option to hide these that I am not aware but it is distracting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Smartsheet enables our team to gather technical information from external co-manufacturers and then complete thorough risk assessments. This has sped up our onboarding process significantly. Being able to be alerted when certificates are coming up for expiry or when something is due has helped us when audits are coming up. This functionality alone we would have been unable to achieve with our old system of spreadsheets and SharePoint folders. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The dashboard has limitations and setting up the widgets to show complex information is not intuitive eg would love to be able to show how many projects are assigned per person as well as the status they are at. It either shows one or the other.
Not being able to link cells across multiple sheets, have ended up having to duplicate information in a few places. We have a separate sheet for individual products and also the suppliers. It would be great if within the product sheet under the supplier column we could click a link which takes us to the supplier sheet and all the appropriate information for that supplier.
Needing to be alerted for certain dates not super clear, eg alert me two years after we on boarded a product. Need to complete multiple steps to trigger an alert. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

- The ability to power through dozens of projects and ask for updates on specific tasks
- The ability to highlight changes through specific time intervals
- Follow-up reminders that can be set in advance
- Reports and update requests that can be automatically sent on a schedule
- Dashboards that can link to multiple different sheets (great for programs)
- Easy baseline setting and resetting
- Great reach- since it's a cloud-based application, the entire team can get access and update directly through the app based on their designated role Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- Baselines can't be adjusted. When a new task line is added, it will not be counted on the current baseline. You must reset the whole baseline to incorporate new lines
- Dashboards are a bit clunky to build. Once they are set up, they look nice, but you need many supporting forms to get them to work properly
- Cut and paste isn't like Excel. Normal MS shortcuts don't work the same it takes getting used to
- Requesting Updates form isn't super clear about what project plan is being inquired about without workarounds Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Smartsheet helps us keep track of our operations processes and procedures. There are a ton of different ways you can use the platform, and my favorite part is how user-friendly it is for beginners like myself. We use Smartsheet daily, and it's easy to implement among our staff. I wasn't present when it was first integrated into our process, but I can't imagine how much more difficult it would be to keep track of our day-to-day schedule without it. The features we use range from task management spreadsheets to keeping track of expenses. We also get consisted updates from customer support regarding new features and how to use them. 10/10! I don't have any strong dislikes about Smarsheet. It gets the job done effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
