The breadth of items that can be changed or updated is truly staggering. If your team is skilled with HTML (or you have in house developers that can play with javascript for the more heavy duty jobs), there is little you can't change.
They also have some fantastic support staff to answer questions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some things are a bit more confusing, and occasionally the support staff either seems interested in pushing you over to the documents (which I've usually already looked at, and not found an answer), or trying to get you to upgrade to a bigger package.
Some of the really technical elements such as Google Analytics integration and implementation are a little tricky to understand.
The data doesn't always 100 percent line up as it should, especially if you are tracking with another tool and comparing the two. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Optimizely Web Experimentation makes the process of implementing web experiments easy. I'm impressed by how quickly and easily experiments can be set up, deployed, and managed, even without extensive technical knowledge. Specifically, the ability to control the percentage of a feature under experiment is one of the best tools I've used. Being able to turn on/off these experiments near instantly has helped reduce our mean time to resolve by at least 60%. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One thing I found challenging about Optimizely Web Experimentation is the initial learning curve was steep. Especially for new users without prior experience or guidance. There are a lot of features. The documentation is robust but doesn't speed up the process. Recent changes to the user interface make it difficult to find and access certain features or settings. These interface changes disrupted workflow. It requirs additional clicks or searches to complete tasks that previously seemed simpler. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
You have absolute control over the page you are testing (it's URL-specific, copy & paste), and the results come in almost real-time. There are options at the top to inject CSS and JavaScript, which can help immensely! The Support Team is incredible with their feedback - usually taking ~24 hrs. or less! Highly recommend! Overall Revenue. This is a built-in feature, but it seems to be the least likely to yield results. I suggest developing a more user-friendly way to track specific sales from the page being targeted than simply listing "Overall Revenue." If this doesn't reach stat sig quickly enough, why even have it as an option? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Optimizely is the tool I use at work most of the time. I really like how intuitive and user-friendly it is. I can easily build and manage my experiments. It is very comprehensive in terms of the functionality it offers and can probably solve most use cases. They have extensive information for marketers and developers available in their help centre. Customer support has always been helpful and prompt to answer our questions. Additionally, Optimizely regularly releases new updates to make it even easier to use and manage your experimentation programme. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It takes a bit of time to learn the tool and all its ins and outs, but once you do, you realise how straightforward it is, although it can be quite overwhelming at first. Another thing to note is that it's quite a pricey solution, which is not surprising, given that it's constantly marketed as best in class by Gartner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ease of use of OWE is second to none, there are always new features being rolled out to make the experience easy and seamless. The visual editor, ability to add templates and monitor all tests is a game changer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would really like to be able to monitor the results for all ongoing tests, as in - if there was one particular primary metric used for multiple tests, it would be good to see the impact of all - in B2B SaaS this may be leads for demos etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that the brand is reputable and the platform is useful for basic experimentation. The UI makes the platform easy to use and understand. I also have had little to no issues with something not working. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think some small things about the UI can be improved. There is not much that I dislike but more of things that I think can be improved for better user experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ability for non-technical users to execute experiments on our homepage and iterate more quickly than is currently possible by our teams. Also, the highlighting of how we can potentially use AI to supercharge this side of personalisation and content experimentation for our business. Integrating and implementing has been easy throughout. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
In our case it's not necessarily a dislike about the tool, I think it's more about getting the right teams to know what features are offered. I think experimentation at our organisation is still seen as something owned completely by data, but web experimentation democratizes that, and should therefore be adopted by other teams like Martech and Marketing to a deeper extent than is currently done. Optimizely is a great A/B & personalisation tool. It considers usage of the tool thoughtfully, and manages to balance flexibility and customisation, with simplicity.
When things don't quite go well, or are hard to find, their support is second to none. Someone usually responds to a ticket within a day or two. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We have had some issues with the configuration of SSO, along with our system. There is an assumption that email is the login ID for SSO. There is however a workaround for this.
Another key thing missing, especially after having used a competitor's tool, is the ability to prioritise multiple personalisation activities within the same page. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Both the speed with which you can undertake experiements and changes, meaning you can validate lots of hypothesises in a short space of time, and the ability to have reassuances on the data impacts (and calculation of statisitcal significance). The WYSIWYG editor significant helps team members with low technical accumen. Have had great help with Optimizelys customer support team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Dependent on the change, your tech stack needs to be able to work with Optimizely. Some of the tests that you feel could easily be accomplished in Optimizely Web, prove to be more difficult, and there is a reasonable learning curve to understand what can be feasibly achieve in the platform and what cannot be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The ease of implementing an experiemnt with the WYZYWIG editor was very easy to get to grips with. The logical sequence and selection of options to setup the experiments are also easy to get to grip with.
The onboarding and customer team have been very helpful with getting us setup.
Installation of the tracking script also took minutes rather than a deep technical installation, meaning the integration was simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Setting up metrics is an aspect which needs time and attention- if these haven't been setup correctly then the results panel will not be helpful when reviewing results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The live editor allowing you make customizations on the fly is an exceptional tool. Its easy to implement, use, and unlike anything we've used before. It really put the power in the right hands and decouples the engineering dependencies from the experimentation process. Also, the edge capabilities are really powerful in delivering an optimized experience for our customers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The downside we've seen is from a testing perspective and having an ability to force yourself into one of the variations. It would be great for our QA team to be able to decide which version they want and ultimately be able to test any version at their discretion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
