Downside- Processing payroll is complicated, but trending in the right direction to get easier to use, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Tax handling and payroll process are the best parts I like about ADP. I appreciate annual benefit renewal. Our current benefit agent is dedicated and supportive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The service fee is quite high. Espacially when the payroll includes a bonus pay, then the servic fee will soar to a high amount. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ADP certainly has expansive capabilities--in theory, it can do everything a business might need. Given it's legacy status, it also integrates well with a number of other systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As a very small business, the list of things to dislike about ADP TotalSource is long:
- ever-increasing service fees and healthcare premiums. we absolutely fell for the honeymoon rates they quoted on insurance when we first signed up, but then they raised the price of healthcare premiums substantially after year 2.
- their Tax Department is horrendous. they seem to make mistakes in filing at least once a quarter. we have three reports with one particular state that they've been trying to correct for 18 months. so many broken promises by the Tax Department--they must have terrible leadership at the top in this area because no one is well trained or cares at all about follow-up.
- their service portal is pointless. they rarely resolve your question, and you almost always have to follow-up by phone. and the answer will vary depending on who you talk to.
- their onboarding process was the worst I've ever experienced. I'd get lengthy, untitled emails about a number of different topics, and buried in them would be something important I was supposed to do.
- there's no way to see what info a new hire is actually getting from the system.
- ADP's business model is to acquire a new businesses and integrate them into the platform, so they don't really own much of their software in-house. it makes pricing expensive and makes for terrible customer service because the reps don't often know how to operate their own systems. I can't even count the number of times I've had a rep tell me, "oh, ADP must've changed this since I last tried to do this, so I'm not sure how to help and will have to escalate this case."
- they also advertise a lot of capabilities that make zero sense for a small business, so don't fall for the allure.
- their reports have improved over the last two years, but you have to run an entirely separate report to see retirement contributions from the company. this should just be in the invoices section. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Customer Service, customer support, all encompassing resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There were a few nuances with the system, as with anything. Creating your own reports was a little complicated, but the customer service to assist you with it helped a lot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ADP has one of the best customer services out there. They are very knowledgeable and delivers excellent care and support. Payroll is easy and the general ledger feature can be integrated into your accounting software. You can also upload your payroll information which is seamless. We also have our 401k, benefits and HR services with them and I must say it is such a big help. It is hard to move to a different service provider once you have been used to ADP TotalSource because the expectations will be very high, since ADP set up a such a high standard. The price for the services has gone up and may not work for some small business but I believe they have a different department that caters to other price points. I tried to look for other service providers but our system is so ingrained with ADP that we couldn't just transfer to a different service provider without much disruption. The insurance providers are also limited to a few and if you have a bad year like we had where we had lots of our employees maximizing their insurance, you will get such a high increase and there is not much option. Their background check is also not intuitive, unlike their other services but it should not be a game stopper because you can always get better background check from other service providers. I like the ease of use of ADP TotalSource. It's a great system that provides the support I need to manage my business. The best part is the access to people who can help me when I need it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like ADP TotalSource because it has a lot of different systems available. However, it can be hard to find the system I need. I shouldn't have to know what system I'm using; ADP should be able to direct me to it using my company code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Generally easy to navigate. Support portal is very helpful (when the problems are replied to in a timely manner, not always the case). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Payroll processing can be clunky. For example, some reports are within the payroll processing area and for some you have to go to reports. For others, such as pay stubs, you have to go to a third place - to iReports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The benefits and structure really work well for our both company and our employees allowing us to retain and attract new employees. The costs are very competitve and provide great value to us and our employees. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I really can't say I dislike anything. If I had to pick on thing, I would suggest the customer service portal be more responsive to issues however it's easy to go outside of the portal and get a faster response. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that we can get great affordable health insurance for our employees as a small business. The customer service is excellent and you always have a dedicated person who knows your account and needs. Payroll is also easy to use and if you use ADP for your 401k, it rolls everything under one house. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Reports can be hard to find exactly what you are looking for, but once you find them you can save them to your favorites. I also prefer more communication over video or telephone when there are issues, than going over the message service. This would be for things outside of the HR Business Partner.
