I use Nickel to receive payments from clients' customers who wanted the option to use ACH or credit card. It is so simple and easy to use, my clients and their customers love it! But the very best part for me is the customer service. And the new features they are working on to make my life easier! We wanted an easy way to pay our vendors and send invoices without incurring major fees through the mainstream banking system. For a small business, the fees have a very measurable impact when every dollar counts! Nickel is very intuitive, easy to use, and saves us hundreds a month in payment fees. Further, if a customer wants to pay by credit card, we can even pass the credit card fees along to them as part of their payment, which our other payment services do not easily enable (Square and Quickbooks). We've been so happy with the easy of use and implementation, ease of adding/onboarding new vendors, as well as the ability to send invoices to customers. Highly Recommend for small businesses! It would be great if there was a way to incorporate a feature to allow a customer to add an option gratuity on an invoice payment. While I know it won't apply to everyone, a portion of our invoice activity is for catering / events and such where customers typically add a gratuity. I switched to Nickel from Helcim primarily for the lower fees, faster payouts, and a more streamlined interface. It has been a great decision! The platform is incredibly affordable, and I love that my deposits come in per transaction rather than as a lump sum, making reconciliation much easier. The interface is clean and intuitive, making it simple to manage my payments without unnecessary complexity. While Nickel covers the basics exceptionally well, I do wish they had an API for better automation and integration with other tools. Invoice generation would also be a helpful addition to streamline billing. These features would make the platform even more powerful for business owners looking to scale. Switching from Melio Payments, the thing I like best about Nickel is their GUI in laying out all the input information on one page. For Melio, I had to press next to continue inputting more information on other pages. Nickel also streamlines its sign-in process to make it easy to to use their layout--saving probably about 5 minutes from other app payments that I have used. The GUI layout, to me, is their best feature. Close to that is the no ACH transaction costs. The process is so easy and trustworthy that when configured to allow clients to use the free ACH payment or with their credit card that they would also pay the low 2.9% fee, some actually prefer to use their credit card even though they (not the business) would incur that small additional fee. We were happy with our former payment portal, Melio, but they changed their pricing structure and instantly alienated us. After an extensive search, we settled on Nickel and couldn't be happier. Initially the platform wasn't an exact 1-to-1 replacement for Melio's functionality, but there are regular improvements and Ray is always excited to hear feedback on how Nickel can be improved. The core tier currently meets our needs, but the paid tiers offer some great advancements that we are considering utilizing in the future.
The UI is easy to understand and navigate. The integration with QuickBooks Online is easy to set up, quick, and seamless. We primarily use ACH payments and there is some variance between how long it takes to complete. The platform says 2-3 business days, but we have seen anywhere between 2-5 days. I assume this isn't 100% in control of Nickel as there are multiple institutions involved. But if we could reliably tell our vendors when they will see their deposits hit their accounts, it would save us some headaches. Nickel was the software solution I found when Melio went to a paid subscription model & my small business could not afford to make that switch. This allowed my firm to continue to operate on free, 2-day, ACH payments to get our vendors paid. It also allows my clients a free, convenient option to pay their monthly invoices. Win-Win!
This software was so easy to set up, add vendors, sync to QuickBooks Online, you name it! It literally is self-explanatory and walks you through just a few simple items & then you are ready to get rolling. Any questions were promptly answered by customer support & they continue to notify us proactively when they notice things on our account that may need checking into, who does that?
Nickel is a simple solution that is rapidly expanding their platform to serve the growing number of businesses signing up for their services. They are listening to the needs of accounting firms & small businesses to make sure their product is one that will fit the bill for years to come. While Nickel has been a great solution for free payment processing, there are some areas that we are patiently waiting for them to build out. Currently, we are waiting on the release of batch payments & payment scheduling.
Our biggest hope is that they maintain a forever free version that provides a decent level of service while allowing them to expand other services that they may charge for. It's been proven that these models can be run on free, ACH payments, so our biggest concern is that this doesn't go the way of Melio, & one day drop us with subscription models that are just too pricey for small businesses.

Nickel's interface is simple, practical, and visually appealing to both firm owner and customer. Their pricing is transparent and competitive and the integration with accounting software is flawless. Collecting payments via the platform is easy. Deposits show the name of my customer so matching invoices with accounting software is a breeze. I'm using Nickel as an alternative to my accounting software and CRM both of which charge 1% for ACH whereas Nickel offers free ACH. One of the best features is the seamless integration with QuickBooks. Nickel sends a PDF of the same invoice generated in QuickBooks and you have the ability to customize who pays the credit card processing fees. I am the bookkeeper for a small Chicagoland production company. We were referred to Nickel from another company and took a look. Nickel is EASY to use, the customer service is A+ (rare these days), and - as we still recover from the impacts of COVID, the pricing structure is very friendly. We can do everything we need to do and it's been very easy to integrate it into our Quickbooks Online account. Overall zero complaints and we have already passed company on to others, too.
