I used Criteo for display retargeting for a few years while working for an ecommerce site and have been very happy with the performance. My company had very strict ROAS goals and Criteo met these goals very consistently. The great advantage is that the model is CPC-based and thus there is a greater sense of control over impressions and clicks for the advertiser. There is a certain "black box" aspect since the reporting and analytical capabilities are very limited (to my knowledge). However, as long as the ROAS goals are met, that is a small downside. The templates are also limited in design - although there are several "templates", they tend to look alike and your banners can appear very similar to another advertiser's, thus creating potential confusion for the end user. I have had nothing but issues with the onboarding, billing and lack of respectable customer support. i used them many years ago and they have fallen so far in regards to this. Literally can't spend money because the "Customer Success" Team won't fix catalog issues on their end. After sending countless videos to them over and over again and them taking days to respond with something we've already tried or some irrelevant help article, it's still not resolved. Just a complete waste of time. This isn't our first issue with them. In the past, we've tried to launch a new campaign, get an explanation on why our feed quality suddenly dropped and tried to get info about expanding our program to international markets. Each issue took 5 months to 'resolve'. The resolve for most of those issues was that we missed the marketing window and dropped it. One very simple example of this was it took months for them to connect us to their APAC team so we could run ads in China. When we finally got on the call, they gave us information on how to launch ads in Japan. When I pivoted the meeting back to China, they said they don't operate there. They used to have more helpful support that showed you how to set up the tool and make sure it was working properly. They have changed to email-only support and provide extremely weak feedback into setup and campaigns. For such an enterprise-level company, it's unfathomable they wouldn't invest so little in support. There are tools that cost a fraction of what Criteo does and have phone call support 7 days a week. Olivia Mills especially is one of the worst support agents out there, providing only articles and ambiguous insights into why our campaign wasn't functioning. It was such a bad experience after 3 emails that we've decided to find another tool because I know exactly how back and forth emails go with a support agent who just sends you articles and vague answers.
