Back in 2016 I was with GoDaddy's Quick Shopping Cart. It was lacking in many "modern" features so I looked at upgrading. GoDaddy had started a new shopping cart product, but weirdly it had less features and I was told there were no plans to improve it. Interesting business strategy.
So I looked around and decided on BigCommerce because pricing was better than Shopify (at the time) and they were pretty equivalent. After spending 2 months swapping my store over, I launched and a few days later BigCommerce doubled my monthly fees. They did a big song and dance about how they hadn't raised prices in a long time and it had to happen. After a couple years I started getting hit with volume overage charges each month. And finally in July 2021 they contacted me and said the plan I was on was being eliminated and I would have to go on an enterprise tier for $1200/month.
This made me highly motivated to find an alternative. I just switched a couple weeks ago to Lightspeed for $140/month for everything I had with BigCommerce, plus full inventory integration with my two businesses and for another $35 (and a one time $3500 developer fee) am able to add my second business website to pull from the same inventory. So much more efficient and dirt cheap compared to BigCommerce.
Hey, I just can't afford BigCommerce, right? Well, then I went to cancel. They had to open a case for billing to do the cancellation. 4 days later no word so I called in and the case hadn't been touched. A big song and dance about having to review my contract to see if I am even allowed to cancel. I had to read them the emails I had with their rep in July where I stated I would not sign a contract (because I knew I was not staying for $1200/month).
Why make it hard to cancel? Why make the last thing I remember about their company be a poor customer service experience? I am writing this review 100% because of them wasting my time on trying to cancel their service. It's a big decision to go with a ecom provider - don't make it lightly. And if you want to stay in control of costs, don't go with one of the big guys- you want WooCommerce or similar where you can pay for development as needed (and you can afford it) but keep your monthly overhead as low as possible. Big Commerce has helped many businesses by being scalable enough to small businesses as well as big ones.The customization based on business problems is the coolest feature i have ever seen in a commerce platform ever before.The multi language facility has helped a lot businesses globally increasing their reach.The usage is also easy to adapt and not very difficult.the implementation happens to be the fastest thing associated with the platform.They provide a amazing customer support and thats is the most accesible feature making their platform a global leader.Most of the users come back to the product increasing its frequency of use .Its can be easily integrated with any kind of platforms required. Ease of managing Products and Orders. It provides multiple ways to Import & Export your product in the BM. It is faster than SFCC. Minimalist and user-friendly UI makes it effortless to understand the functionality of the BM easily. Our client has moved from SFCC to Bigcommerce. Implementation was easy. It was our first project on Bigcommerce but with the help of Bigcommerce support. the transition was smooth and actually, we liked it over the SFCC. Bigcommerce feature to provide a storefront or you can customize it in your own way helps in integrating the site with the third party. Speaking of third party, Bigcommerce Marketplace provides multiple third-party apps that can be directly integrated into your project through Bigcomerce BM, that's the best feature of Bigcommerce. Any fixes requested take time from their side to be released. One issue that we found on our site was, that when the Product and Order level discounts are enabled both the order level discounts are applied on the MRP of the product but the rule says the Order level discount is applied only on the discounted product price after applying the product level discount. To give a fix for this Bigcommerce took more than 3 months to apply a fix from there side. Which is the only thing that i encountered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Ease of use, ever expanding app marketplace. If there's something you want to do that Bigcommerce doesn't do out of the box, there is probably an app that does it. Customer support is absolutely top notch. Always friendly and very knowledgeable. Implementation was handled by our developer but it has been a breese to use ever since. Not as customizable as we'd like on certain features. It's good that you can get an app to do what you want, but then you have to pay for that app to do what should be done natively. Also the gift card system leaves a lot to be desired. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Big commerces is an ecommerce platform not just a site to sell items. There are many plug ins that extend the functionality of the site, such as connectors to accounting software, more advanced inventory management.. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Ease of use aside, Big Commerce has been an invaluable part of our growth. Its integration capabilities have been deployed seamlessly across a myriad of apps including Klaviyo, Search Spring and a multitude of other automation tools employed across the site which has been crucial in our being a low cost model. The platforms open API enables easy customisation allowing us a much clearer insight into customer behaviour and internal business performance. several features of BigCommerce have directly contributed to our business growth. The platform’s scalability, with its ability to handle high-volume transactions without sacrificing speed or performance, has been a game-changer as our business has expanded. Its inbuilt SEO tools and mobile optimization features have significantly improved our online visibility and search rankings. Plus, with BigCommerce’s advanced product management features and automation capabilities, we’ve been able to manage inventory and orders efficiently, helping us scale without increasing our team size an increasing costs. Running a business and an online store is much less stressful using Bigcommerce, I have used Volusion and Shopify, and the most valued service that Bigcommerce offers that is next to none in comparison is the ability to reach out to their qualified tech support team for assistance whenever I am snagged by an issue I found or created. Having live tech support just a phone call away is very comforting on a busy day when you don't always have time to search for the correct documentation to help you solve a problem. Our customers also benefit from this service as it reduces the chance of downtime and errors during their shopping experience with us.
I enjoy the shared variants that allow us to reduce product listing data and ease of updating any changes to the function of how the variants are displayed and the ability to create custom rules for a specific variant such as price difference when selected. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some of the backend functions like not being able to tag customers with a visual color-coded rating system to easily identify customers by their known customer service history - Good Egg Bad Egg. The cost and customizable website building platform that a small business to get a online presences started. It's SEO functionality for each page has been very helpful in building website traffic. The tech support is very responsive in helping to resolve any questions or issues you may have.
