What do you like best about TriNet?
TriNet offers a comprehensive suite of HR features aimed primarily at small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The platform supports the full employee lifecycle through two main service models: TriNet PEO (a co-employment option for full HR outsourcing) and TriNet HR Plus (a technology-first platform for companies that manage HR in-house).
At the core, the TriNet HR Platform centralizes workforce data and streamlines day-to-day administration. For payroll, it promotes “three-click payroll,” along with automated federal, state, and local tax filings, direct deposit, and automatic benefit deductions. Benefits administration is another major component, with access to “big-company” benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans, while also supporting enrollment, COBRA, and ACA compliance. Time and attendance tools provide real-time tracking for hours worked, overtime, and breaks, and sync directly with payroll. On the hiring side, recruiting and onboarding include an applicant tracking system (ATS) plus a self-service onboarding experience that can get new hires set up in as little as 10 minutes.
For risk mitigation and compliance, TriNet’s PEO services stand out for helping reduce legal and financial exposure. Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) is included to protect against claims like discrimination, wrongful termination, or harassment. Workers’ compensation support covers plan sponsorship, claims processing, and safety assessments to help identify workplace hazards. TriNet also emphasizes regulatory tracking, with experts monitoring changing employment laws across all 50 states so company handbooks and policies stay compliant.
Beyond the essentials, TriNet includes a set of advanced tools and intelligence features. Reporting and analytics dashboards provide visualizations for workforce trends, turnover, and payroll costs. The TriNet Mobile app (iOS/Android) lets employees view pay stubs, request time off, and enroll in benefits. There’s also a learning management (LMS) offering described as an AI-powered platform for upskilling and mandatory compliance training, plus expense management for paperless expense submissions and approvals with reimbursement handled through payroll.
New for 2026, TriNet has expanded its technology suite with TriNet Assistant, an AI-driven tool intended to help managers and employees navigate HR tasks. It also introduces TriNet Global for managing international workers and cross-border compliance, and TriNet IT, which is positioned as purpose-built IT solutions for SMBs focused on hardware and security management. What do you dislike about TriNet?
Common Dislikes & Pain Points
Pricing & Transparency: Many users find the service expensive, especially for growing teams. Unlike competitors like Gusto, TriNet often uses non-transparent, custom pricing that can include hidden add-on costs.
User Interface (UI) & Navigation: The platform is frequently described as "clunky" or "not intuitive." Users report a steep learning curve and difficulty finding specific reports or essential information without assistance.
Mobile App Limitations: While there is a mobile app, some users dislike that certain functions—like checking time and attendance—redirect you out of the app to a browser, breaking the user experience.
Customer Support Consistency: While some praise the HR experts, others cite slow response times and frustration with frequent changes in assigned account representatives.
Limited Flexibilty: Specifically regarding time-off balances, some managers find it frustrating that they cannot manually adjust employee balances easily, which can be difficult for nonprofits or companies with unique funding structures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
