What do you like best about TargetX?

Target X is easy to use most of the time. The ease of programming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

The glitches that happen on a regular basis. The glitches affect productivity and our response to students. Make sure bugs are out of updates before sending them out Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

Target X allows us to log communication, stay in communication and pull reports that aid us in moving students through the admissions funnel. Our office is more efficient and makes more data based decisions because of Target X Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about TargetX?

The Application Review tool is one of the best. In fact, I've heard that some schools picked TargetX based on this one thing. They wanted to really standardize workflow in application review and this helped them do it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

I have never seen a web app with worse or a more disjoint user interface. There are literally 4 different eras of user interface. You'll find stuff that is coded to look like salesforce classic, you'll find sections that look like salesforce lightning, you'll find a platform called TargetX builder that is their 3rd gen UI, but I think that's also been abandoned and now they are developing some UI that lives entirely on their servers and doesn't integrate at all with the Salesforce CRM. When they released their loudly-touted new SMS solution, it was worse than the old one and had almost no integration with the CRM. Separate window to bookmark and no data goes back and forth except basic contact details.

Also, settings for TargetX are stored in about 15 different locations each of them with wildly divergent paths to get to the settings. There is not one setting panel. There are Salesforce settings, "Custom settings," things that exist as a custom object, things that live in TargetX builder, and the main job of a TargetX admin is memorizing all the places where you might go to change things.

Essentially, you need an IT team of 2+ people dedicated to running TargetX or you need to purchase their additional service where they do all the configuration for you.

Also, new features are usually half-baked when released. Just sayin. A fix for an issue will be promised to be just months away for 1-3 years and then when it does get released, the new UI is nothing like what you're used to and only has 1/2 the promised functionality. And they announce it with great fanfare! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering TargetX:

Make sure you talk to at least three current customers and make sure that at least 2 of them will tell you their frustrations alongside their reasons for being on TargetX. If nobody is telling you what they are frustrated about, TargetX isn't giving you an accurate list that is representative of their customer base. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

It is an admissions CRM. Not sure that it's the most user friendly one but it does come with all the features you might expect in an admissions CRM. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about TargetX?

Support and robust back end that will be extensible to other processes. Everyone is given an implementation consultant to help initial stages. All have been very out of the box thinkers. I bring up issues and I get responses from, sometimes, the highest level. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

Inflexibility with accessing different Saleseforce Objects in modules or different applications within the system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering TargetX:

There are always trade offs when going with an off the shelf software between customization and generlizablity. The trade off has been very worth the decrease in specific, tailor-made solutions for the scalability, supportablity and repeatability within TargetX. The functionality of Salesforce alone is worth the price of admission. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

Unification of disparate systems. Using TargetX to increase student contact and, hopefully decrease melt. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about TargetX?

Ability to customize to fit our needs - we needed to add some custom objects and that has been very easy to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

I am sometimes frustrated with email builder. The new email builder is occasionally tricky to get the text appropriately formatted. It will look ok in the preview, but the actual send looks different. Also, I don't particularly appreciate that the email campaigns have a built-in 'safeguard' which will put the email broadcast on hold if there is a 'significant change in the number of people it will be sent to. There have been occasions when I schedule an event email reminder on a Thursday (I am out of the office on Friday) to go out the morning of the Saturday event, and between the time I schedule the email and that morning, enough students have registered so that the broadcast is placed on hold. Once on hold, I have to go into the system and release the broadcast - which defeats the purpose of even scheduling the broadcast in advance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering TargetX:

Be sure to clarify your business processes first. Then, look at how you can utilize TargetX to do things most efficiently - don't just replicate what you are doing in your existing system. You need to look at how you can enhance the process. Then, look at what is delivered and see what other data you might need. If you are making any major changes - test in sandbox first and then migrate over. Also, use the resources offered by TargetX and the User Community - there is a great deal of knowledge and experience that is available to help you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

Completely automated our events process. Better able to communicate with students and track engagement with students. Also greatly enhanced our Admission Officers interactions with students and their ability to track their interactions with prospective students. In addition, we added drip campaigns which have been a huge lifesaver! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about TargetX?

TargetX customer support along with the service offerings are unmatched in the higher ed recruitment vertical. We have been a customer for more than five years and have been very happy with the product offerings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

You have to use Salesforce which means you have to pay for a Salesforce license. It would be great if there was a bundled package where only one payment was made. We endured the growing pains of the smaller company and was able to partner with TargetX to create a solution that not only worked for us but other clients. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

Automating recruitment whether that's via personal contact, digital marketing, or event driven. We are seeing results with the TargetX solution. Email deliverability is high and now we are engaging with our prospective students via SMS. Automating the recruitment workflow is a real possibility and realized at Lee. What do you like best about TargetX?

I like that it is user-friendly and customizable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

There are certain fields/features that aren't easy to report and get all of the information that you want. The new SMS system isn't reportable that I can find, and it doesn't log text messages to the student detail screen. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

We use the system across campus. We've used it for housing, processing graduation, immunization tracking, and everything else. Any time someone says they are tracking something on a manual spreadsheet, I respond with let's talk, and we can usually find a way to track it in the system so they aren't having to keep that spreadsheet any more. What do you like best about TargetX?

Their solution fits our needs for providing excellent service to our prospective students and families across the whole recruitment cycle. Before TargetX our enrollment activities were spread across multiple pieces of software and spreadsheets, so it's a real pleasure to have an all-in-one solution. The company is constantly innovating, and seeking feedback from their customers, which I greatly appreciate. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

TargetX is built on the Salesforce platform, so, initially, it's a little tricky to get a handle on what was native to Salesforce, and what TargetX had produced. I think it takes a bit of tech-savvy and some time to become well-versed in the system, but once you do, it is extremely flexible and adaptable to fit your needs. Upgrades are not automatically included, so we recently added their "Premiere Lite" service package so that their team will handle four upgrades per year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering TargetX:

Make sure to have buy-in from leadership, and hopefully, some staffing to support it on both the admissions and IT side. Implementing TargetX will not mean less work - just that the nature of your work will change, exchanging tedious, low-quality tasks for more high-quality, high-impact tasks. At the end of the day, our profession is about educating and guiding students and families through a complex and daunting process so they can realize the life-changing benefits of higher education, and TargetX enables us to do that better than we ever have before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are able to stay in constant contact with a large pool of students, building customized communications across multiple channels. Through automation, we are able to build efficiencies and create workflows so that our team can spend their time doing personal outreach to our most interested students. With reports and dashboards, our leadership team has insight into how we are tracking toward goals. Our event management tool makes it easy to create events, track registrants, and communicate with them. I can't imagine where we'd be without the solution - the time before it (we've been with them for 5 years now) feel like the dark ages! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about TargetX?

TargetX offers a prebuilt, yet highly customizable, solution for recruitment and admissions built on top of the Salesforce platform. TargetX has responsive and helpful support. There is a vibrant and helpful user community. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about TargetX?

Although it is highly customizable, by nature of it being a pre-built solution, there are limits to what can be changed. Also, keeping up with the monthly package updates can be a challenge. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is TargetX solving and how is that benefiting you?

TargetX allows us to provide a custom student portal for applicants, which includes among other things, a dynamic checklist of application materials and a payment connector for tuition deposit payments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
