Shopify POS is a great solution for many merchants, but it also has some drawbacks that you should be aware of. Here are some of the common Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is tough to migrate away from Shopify. If you ever decide to switch to another platform, you may face some challenges in transferring your data and content from Shopify. Shopify does... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love that it is so easy to find and update clients and process an order.
I enjoy the mulitiple ways we can apply promo, sales and particular saving for our clients. And how fast it works with our CRM of Infusionsoft/KEAP to support purchases made by our clients. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The store credit or Gift certificate/cars sale does not automaticlly supply us as administrators a code so we can update and save the code for future payment.
Making the client forward it to us is not fun for either of us. We have to do the extra step of forwarding it to our own private email and use it and or Copy and Paste it into the order so we can look it up later to process a payment. AS well as there is no way to do muliti payment methods on the desktop version and the IPAD version is so different from the desktop version. IPAD version seem a little bit more tedius from the desktop version BUT has more option...so it balances out in the end. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A huge plus to Shopify plus is having a univfied experience for cusotmers, whether is being from shopping online to returning in store, or purchasing in store to be dleivered to their home. It helps create a one channel experience both for cusotmers but also for the team working on it 24/7 Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
No on hand / in person training for the POS results in the "in house" team to do all training for staff which resulted in ineffcianet use of managments time being spend wholly on store training. A zoom with the on boarding team to train management and then for management to train the store team seems inefficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The 3 years journey of our 7 Retails outlets & Countless Pop Up Booths on Shopify Pos is very reliable! Users experiences is simple to use for our retail team. Shopify Pos made it possible to have everything in one system! In-Store pickup, VIP membership rewards, custom app API, ERP integration, Email & SMS Marketing. If you are already on Shopify, and you have a point of sale, you shouldn't miss this out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Customer view display compatibility. If able to support a iPad for Customer View, Shopify Pos could be the next POS System Gamechanger! Steps of regonizing a customer in store can be improve by just scanning a QR code, that would same a lot of time which meant money for business. Unsupported Shopify Payments in Malaysia. We had very little problems getting our system moved from our Quickbooks POS v11 to Shopify. We did however pay a Shopify expert to help line up some of the custom data we have into Shopify, but even then, that only cost $350 for specific line items matching our preference (over 1400 products, so not a bad price). We could have done it, but it was much faster and we felt cheaper than our time to perform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I felt a bit disappointed with our cost, as we have 3 locations, we had only 1 that was Pro and thought we could use the others not as Pro. However, if you do not have Pro at each location, it will only allow ONE person to access the POS system. So if you are a one person show in Shopify, that is not a problem. However, we have several team members at each location so that wasnt an option and was an additional almost $500 per location annually in addition to the Shopify subsctiption, so that was disappointing and i felt not as upfront about costs. The best part about Shopify POS is it easy to use for our employees. The POS screen and process of checking out a customer is very intuitive.
It is also great that it is cloud based and we do not need an onstie server. It makes it so that we do not need IT specialists onsite at each of our store's locations to troubleshoot problems.
We love that Shopify POS integrates seamlessly with the Shopify E-commerce product and Marketplace connect. This allows us to use our store's inventory for the E-commerce inventory as well.
Love the one stop shop.. you can manage the POS and Web, and marketplaces from one interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Where to start. Overall Shopify meets our needs, but it seems to be missing several obvious things:
1. The reporting is very lack luster. We pay an additional $30 a month to an app called better reports so that we can get the basic data we need. This type of basic and obvious reporting used to come included with our previous POS software.
2. You cannot integrate 3rd party merchant services with Shopify POS. So you have not choice but to pay the very high and non-compettive shopify merchant fees. We have thought several times about switchign POS and at some point as we grow, taht is our plan. We could save thousands by swithching to a POS software that allows us to use 3rd party merchant services like we used to with our previous software.
3. Hardware. Shopify forces you to use specific hardware and their software integartes with very few hardware options and they are the most expensive ones. So you will end up paying for the most expenseive hardware.
4. Hardware.. we have had our Shopify Tap and Chip card reader go out several times and then we've had to buy new ones. Once we were able to get Shopify to send us a new one for free. But that has not alwasy been the case. Fingers crossed the Tap and Chip reader does not got out on Black Friday.
5. Hardware.. Shopify POS has to use an Ipad... Ipads looks slick. but Apple releases new versions annually and new software updates. This makes it so ipads that are few years old may not be compatiable with teh shopify sofware and then you will need to buy a new ipad even though your current ipad still works great, it is just no longer compatibble with Shopify. that has happend to us and forced us to spend another $700 on a newer generation ipad.
6. Bluetooth... Shopify POS relies on bluetooth to connect many pieces of hte hardware to the POS software. This is great when it works, but we have found that bluetooth is not very reliable. I wish there was an option to have hardwired connections through USB instead Bluetooth. Several times, probalby atlesat two times a month we have to go the settings on our ipad, forget blue tooth devices, turn off the ipad, turn off hte hardware, turn them all back on and then reconnect them all. this is very annoying and very flustring to employees especially when customers are waiting to check out.
7. 3rd Party App.. there are many key pos features not included Shopify so you have to pay for several 3rd party apps. We pay a couple hudred dollars each month in 3rd party apps to do basic things such as; upload products using a CSV file, basic reporting, doing an inventory count, customizing barcode stickers to print out, time clock functionality so employees can clock and clock out, basic loyalty program/rewards tracking,
8. No time clock. We have to pay a 3rd party app for basic time clock functionality.
9. No Purchase order functionality. You cannot build purchase orders into shopify. So we use a google docs to track our purchase orders, items that are arriving, etc...
10. Shopify thinks about everything from an e-commerce lens first. POS seems to be an afterthought for them.
Overall, Shopify POS works for our business and we have stuck to it becasue it is a lot of work to switch and we're trying to grow and and improve our ecommerce side of the business. I have hope that Shopify will continue to improve their POS. I shouldn't write such a detailed review becasue I want Shopify to get more POS customers so that Shopify will focus on it more and continue to imrpove it. So I shouldn't be so transparaent, but my hope if that by posting my true thoughts and issues with Shopify POS the Shopify team will read it and work to improve these things. The minimal design layout is the best thing in Shopify POS. Every tile, buttons, actions can be customised as per the user needs. Any additional features required can also be applied through the drop down menu.
Overall I would recommend Shopify POS for business expanding their brick and mortar stores Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The hardware access and support is very limited for now and I suggest Shopify team to make it viable with many devices and systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My best about shopify POS is the step by step procedure to perfom complete the sale.
The first homepage has all the features to add customer, products, discounts, rewards and much more...
Once its done the, the next page the await to complete transaction, here we can double check that there isn't any mistake.
Then the sale is complete and either we print or email or message the receipt. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Shopify POS need an active network connection and sometimes it gets stuck in searching. In comparison to shopify admin, I personally feel the POS infrastructure is slightly slow. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like best is that every information that I need is available all in one place. The software is smooth when you integrate with my Shopify store as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A lot of work needed to be done with customization and I hope there are constant updates for it. Customer support can be problematic and hectic sometimes, it's hard to get to a solution fast. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
