**What do you like best about Recharge Subscriptions?**

Recharge has been an essential part of how we manage our subscription business and what stands out most is how seamlessly it integrates with Shopify to create a smooth and reliable subscription experience for both our team and our customers. The customer portal is particularly valuable, giving subscribers the ability to self-manage their subscriptions by skipping, pausing, swapping products, or updating billing and shipping details without needing to contact support, which has significantly reduced our support ticket volume. The flexibility in how subscription rules and billing intervals can be configured allows us to offer a variety of subscription options that match different customer preferences and purchasing behaviors. The analytics and retention tools have also been a standout feature, giving us visibility into churn, active subscriber counts, and lifetime value metrics that help us make smarter decisions about how to grow and retain our subscriber base. The dunning management features that automatically handle failed payments and recover revenue that would otherwise be lost have also added meaningful value to the bottom line.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

The biggest frustration with Recharge is the cost, particularly as the subscriber base grows. The pricing structure includes transaction fees on top of the monthly platform fee, which means costs scale quickly and can eat into the margins of a subscription business in ways that are difficult to fully anticipate upfront. The checkout experience has historically been a pain point as well, as Recharge has used a separate checkout from Shopify's native checkout, which created a somewhat disjointed experience for customers and limited some of the customization and conversion optimization we could apply. While they have made progress in closing that gap, it has been a slower rollout than we would have liked. The reporting and analytics, while useful, could also go deeper in terms of cohort analysis and subscriber behavior insights without having to export data to a separate tool. These are real friction points but they do not outweigh the overall value Recharge provides for managing a subscription program at scale.

Recharge solves the fundamental problem of managing recurring billing and subscription logistics at scale in a way that would be extremely difficult to build and maintain independently. Before having a dedicated subscription platform, managing recurring orders, billing cycles, failed payments, and subscriber self-service would have required significant custom development work and ongoing maintenance. Recharge handles all of that out of the box and integrates directly with Shopify, meaning our subscription orders flow through the same operational infrastructure as our one-time purchases without requiring a separate system. The biggest benefit has been the ability to offer a polished, reliable subscription experience that builds customer trust and drives predictable recurring revenue, which is invaluable for planning and forecasting. The self-service customer portal has also meaningfully reduced support overhead by empowering subscribers to manage their own accounts, which keeps customers happy and our team focused on higher value work. The automated failed payment recovery has also recaptured revenue that would otherwise have been lost to passive churn, which has had a direct positive impact on retention and lifetime value. Overall Recharge has allowed us to run a serious subscription business without the operational complexity that would normally come with it.

I like how Recharge Subscriptions makes managing billing and subscriptions simple and flexible with nice UX. It's valuable because it makes managing recurring orders easy for both businesses and customers. Its flexibility allows customers to skip, pause, swap, or reschedule deliveries, while the clean UX reduces friction and support requests.

I feel like Recharge Subscriptions could improve by offering more flexible customer self-service options for subscription changes. I'd like a simpler setup to speed up the onboarding process, faster performance for quicker load times and responses, better reporting to make it easier to track churn, LTV, and cohort performance in real time, and easier integrations.

**What do you like best about Recharge Subscriptions?**

I love how Recharge Subscriptions is extremely easy to use and basically runs itself. Once the product is set up with frequency options, customers can check out on their own, and a recurring billing profile gets created. Each month, a new order comes in just like an a la carte order, which makes it very easy for the fulfillment team to process. I appreciate the customization of the widget, which allows you to put verbiage right on the product page, enabling customers to choose a frequency and save a bit of money for monthly purchases. The initial setup was pretty easy too, and the team at Recharge was great about helping me get the widget showing on the website.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

I have found a bit of issue with regards to frequency in terms of setup. I had originally selected every 30 days but now my frequencies are off because some months have more days. Moreso something on my end.

Recharge Subscriptions lets us set up monthly billing agreements easily for products like coffee, simplifying recurring orders. It automates billing and order processing, easing workloads for the fulfillment team, and offers customization that boosts sales with flexible purchase options.

Many advanced features  especially around custom checkout experiences, dynamic subscription logic, or more complex bundle rules often require custom coding. Out-of-the-box flexibility only goes so far.

Recharge integrates smoothly with Shopify and offers a customer interface that is quite user-friendly. It also enables administrators to send customers direct links to access their accounts.

At times, the platform can be a bit glitchy. Occasionally, customers are unable to edit their own subscriptions, which can be frustrating. However, I have found that Recharge's customer service is consistently very helpful and responsive.

**What do you like best about Recharge Subscriptions?**

Recharge is very great when it comes to billing and monitoring revenue.

We use it daily to view customers' memberships and make edits to billing cycles edit costs adding discount codes which can also serve as pause codes.

It is very easily used by anyone and does not take time to learn at all, it also has a great analysis page where you can view the total amount of orders with how much you make per month and if you dip in sales or rise in sales it is very good at doing that.

It is easily implemented in many stores and does not cost much to run at all.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

There is nothing I dislike about recharge at the moment and I have used it for a year now and never faced any issues that weren't fixed immediately.

It is solving the problem of needing a revenue analysis as it is doing that automatically since all our subscribers run through there.

**What do you like best about Recharge Subscriptions?**

We've been using Recharge for almost 3 years now. It's a pretty straightforward set-up process, and there is a lot of functions and ways to upsell within the app. It's fairly easy to get started. Customer support is helpful, though a little slow. The new chat feature helps reduce to 24 hour response time, so we appreciate that.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

There are still a lot of features that are frustrating, and they are constantly raising prices. The new app fee in January will probably force us to look at alternative subscription app options, as it's really not afforable for small businesses. Things like the reward program don't automatically sync, we have to remember to log-in and refresh codes every day. Adding a free box in for a customer is extremely diffuclt, and modifying after renewal day requires reaching out to customer service for help. You can't apply a discount code for a customer whose card was not processed - one way many other companies can reduce customer churn. It's not super user friendly, and our customer service team often has issues with it.

It's one of only a few options to offer subscriptions to our customers.

**What do you like best about Recharge Subscriptions?**

They are always innovating! We've been with Recharge for 4 years now and  over time we've seen many changes - all aimed at making both the customer and seller experience better and more intuitive.  Some changes have been small and others a bit more "earth shattering", but in the end they continue to listen to the sellers who hear from the customers on how to make having and managing a monthly subscription better.

Another thing that is right up there with the "Best" things about using Recharge is their customer support.  When we have had an issue, their customer support team has been very responsive and quick to help us acheive an acceptable resolution to the situation.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

Over time we've experienced some limitations with checkout.  We started using Recharge checkout and then migrated over to Shopify checkout when it became available.  We are now using Shopify payments as well and there seem to be a few extra steps required in issuing a refund.  Not a deal breaker by any means but it would be nice to have the refund process through Shopify payments a bit more streamlined for subscriptions.

The recent launch of the analytics dashboard has been very beneficial in seeing more clearly the strengths and opportunities of our subscription business.  Additionally the password-less login has not only made it easier for customers to login and manage their subscriptions, it has also reduced the workload of our customer support staff.

Recharge is user friendly, and easy to use. On Customers tab, I am able to find all of our subscribers , and once a specific one is selected, the subscriber page has all the needed details in one place. I can easily add a discount code, pause the membership, or even cancel if needed.

It's fast and lag-free. The navigation is easy. I don't find any issues with it.

We use Recharge to handle our customers' inquires. A customer might need to pause his membership, renew his payment information, or even cancel it at times. Recharge makes it so easy to do so. With everything accessible in one page, it makes my daily work easier.

- Would love to see more integration with Shopify, rather than just a link to the customer profile
- Sometimes, a timeline event isn't as detailed as I'd prefer. For example, it will just say "customer swapped product" instead of saying which products were swapped themselves
- Would also love to see an option built out for upcoming orderS, rather than just the next one upcoming! Sometimes a customer tells us an adjust they want for an order later down the road, and we can't help them in that moment because we only have the next order available for changes

I love the timeline feature, because it allows for us to notice user mistakes on the customer end. With this information, we can improve the user experience of our own subscription portal customer to avoid these mistakes!

**What do you like best about Recharge Subscriptions?**

I started using Recharge when I first came to Shopify. I found it very easy to import my current subscription customers and data to their platform, which meant very little or no disruption for most of them. I also love that it has the ability to read line item properties from other apps my store uses, letting me capture the information needed for me to serve my customers.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

I dislike the new pricing. I'm a small business, and the new pricing structure means I may have to look at a different solution to remain profitable. A tier for 50 or 100 or less transactions a month would be attractive.

It is solving the lack of a native subscription app service on Shopify, while integrating itself into my business for a seamless experience for both me and my customers.

As a tool, it is incredibly easy to manage and everything seems so easy. I use it every day at work to manage subscriptions from our customers. All the details are very well compressed on one page and it makes actions, such as pausing a subscription a piece of cake. Also, it makes my everyday life at work a lot easier as it is loading very quickly.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

There are no issues with Recharge. I have been using it for so long and every time it exceeded my expectations as there were no bugs or any loading issues. Everything is done quickly with no issues at all.

As a Member Experience Associate, handling customers' inquiries regarding their subscriptions has never been as easy as Recharge makes it feel. It had never disappointed me as it is an extremely well-designed tool and it does its job.

It allows me to buy and redeem gift cards for a variety of merchants and services. 

One thing I like most about Recharge is its convenience and ease of use. With just a few taps on my mobile device, I can purchase and redeem gift cards instantly, making it a fast and hassle-free way to shop or give gifts.

The new user interface is a little harder than the past one.

It helps me with the specific details about the customer's charges and makes my work easier when it is related to the billing details for our customers. including the next and the previous billing dates the amount of the charge, etc. Also the integration with other software that we use like Shopify is easy and linked correctly all the time.

 if you're looking for a quick and convenient way to purchase and redeem gift cards, Recharge is definitely worth considering.

I like that Recharge allows us to manage the subscriptions of consumers in the best possible way. We're able to make a lot of things with it that help our consumers to have a good experience while purchasing with us!

The only thing I dislike about recharge is that some history changes appear under "Recharge admin" which can cause confusion on who made them, but besides that everything is great!

Recharge solves any subscription management issue a consumer can have, it allows us to collect data and properly modify subscriptions based on consumers' preferences.

Their software has been extremely reliable with little to no issues after using it for at least 3+ years. They also have a great product roadmap that includes paid communities, reviews, etc. Love that more functionality is coming into the app itself.

The app is getting way too expensive and it's a bit confusing how it integrates with Shopify, but then also offers you to host it on ReCharge pages. This never made full sense to us.

I've been using Recharge for more than a year now and it makes it so easy to handle customer's subscriptions and manage their next orders. It's very simple to use and it has a lot of features to manage customer's accounts.

Actually, I have not found anything negative about it yet. I love using it and navigating through it.

After extensive research, I settled on Recharge for several reasons. They have a dedicated integrations team that took care of end-to-end customizations that I wanted for my sub-business. Their customer support team was responsive within hours. The second biggest reason was the UI for both my backend and my customers. They have managed incredible features to allow for multiple platform integration, deep analytics, upsell and customer portal capabilities, and support.

There aren't many I can think of. If I had to be nit-picky and choose one thing that comes to mind, it would be the release of new features on Bigcommerce tends to come many months after Shopify.

It does an excellent job at managing the subscription relationship with the customer through the customer portal and the ability to create accounts at checkout. It also does an excellent job of allowing the customer and the company to customize the subscription relationship to fit best. Also, the customer service UI is pretty intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

There are a few restrictions generally imposed on Recharge by Shopify. First, you aren't allowed to use any alternative payment processor from Shopify Payments if you collect recurring revenue. Additionally, it forces the use of Shopify Checkout, which can be limiting to some companies. Lastly, to have a subscription product in the actual checkout and not as an upsell/down-sell post-purchase, you need to use the cart functionality. You aren't able to go directly to checkout from a buy button on the landing page.

We were on the legacy version of Carthook Checkout, and we need a new subscription management engine. Recharge allows us to fill our short-term requirement of switching our technical stack at checkout while maintaining all the integrations that we already have with Shopify. Where do I start? Support is slow and if you get a reply, they are not accommodating - they don't care about your problems. They offer minimal checkout customization. They are super slow migrating. We've tried everything (threatened to take business elsewhere, etc etc) and they really don't care. Not to mention their tracking beyond iOS 14 is beyond subpar. You can read the blog posts online about how Recharge has yet to add accommodations for Conversions API. Lastly, their abandon cart is broken. On any other checkout, if you enter your email, then it's saved. Instead, you have to progress to page 2 of checkout then leave to be considered an abandon cart. Meaning if you abandon on the first page of checkout, it doesn't count. Unbelievable.

Zero customization. Support doesn't budge or offer to assist with needs. They are big and really don't care to offer customization.

Love the ability to swap subscriptions, edit the renewal dates and skip renewals if the customer wants it.

It is easy to see the transaction history and what actions were taken by the customer and what actions were taken by the store admin.

We can view data by orders, within which you can view those that are processed, upcoming, upcoming pre-paid orders, charge errors and pre-paid errors.

I primarily view data by clicking on the customers tab, where I can search for my customer by name or email to access their subscriptions easily.

Once I have found my customer, our view defaults to the Subscriptions view where see a recap of all of their subscriptions, including active, canceled and expired.

There is an option to select Actions, which includes Edit, Swap, Cancel, Move and Delete.

I often use this for canceling recurring subscriptions but under edit, I can change the product variant, change the next charge date, change the product quantity, change the delivery schedule, update the recurring price (very helpful when the user forgets to apply a discount code!), update the payment information, edit the shipping address (we do not use this, as we use another plug-in to with a custom form to manage delivery instead), swap, or cancel - most of which I can also access from clicking Actions as stated above.

Other options  I have access to when selecting my customer from search are the the delivery schedule, where I can se upcoming renewals and skip or edit them; billing information and purchase history.

**What do you dislike about Recharge Subscriptions?**

One of the issues I have encountered is that we offer 4, 6 and 8 week subscription options.  While that data transfers to our systems that produce the subscription items, no matter what is chosen, the subscription always wants to charge for the full 8 weeks, which takes a lot of time to audit, as we have a large number of subscribers.

When accessing items such as delivery schedule, there seems to be no clear way to go back, other than the back button on the browser.

**Recommendations to others considering Recharge Subscriptions:**

I would keep a close watch on recurring charges when you are using variants.  We have tried to get it sorted but still see customers being overcharged for a full 8 weeks when they have chosen a 4 or 6 week subscription.

Don't be shy to reach out to their customer support - they are kind and always willing to work with you and will follow up if they have not heard back from you (this happened to me when their response went to the spam folder).

Be sure to really pay attention to all of the features they have available  and use them! 

As I stated earlier in my review,  I have found that searching by Customer works best for me but there are also other ways you can manage in there, such as products and reviewing analytics.

An absolute must is to bookmark the status page - if something is not working correctly, you can check quickly and easily to see if there is an outage at all or if any portion of the system is down. You can even subscribe to updates to be notified when there is a system problem.
