What do you like best about Contentstack?

Seems powerful and modern.

Does what you tell it to do.

I don't know but there are probably lots of features that can be implemented.

Can't comment on customer support as I don't have access to that.

Despite all the annoying issues I am fond of it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

As an end user, it's hard to find features and customise workflows.

Why isn't it possible to organise files by name/date/other quality? It drives me insane that you can't do that and they're always organised by "recently opened". What if you need to work through a list of them (thousands, say) and have no way of marking, tagging or knowing where you're up to?

It should be more possible to make batch changes to certain types of files.

It should be easier to see previews of how images will be cropped in certain formats.

Also when creating/saving new files such as photos, I do not want to have to look for the correct folder which is in a different position each time. I do NOT want the folders to mix up their order depending on what someone else clicked on recently. I want the folder architecture to remain the same each time so that it's easy to use. This leads to another problem, duplication. Why is it possible to create two folders of the exact same name? Recipe for disaster.

Another incredibly silly thing is that there is no preview function you can access before making a change or making a new page live. This makes it impossible to be creative/experiment/fulfil new requirements.

Why is there a whole second block of WYSIWYG input that we are not allowed to touch, but that can't be deleted?

The time and date system for events doesn't allow us to customise according to our brand style guide. It also doesn't account for daylight saving where you need to change the timezone from AEST to AEDT. Need to be able to fix this on our side not just accept it.

Sometimes it feels like ContentStack is a platform that has never been used to create a website before, so we are requesting all these very reasonable fixes that require weeks/months of work to implement.

The platform makes it really hard to see and click and find what the content actually says in the back end, because there are so many other fields and the important main content boxes are collapsed all the time.

Why is there NO SPELL CHECK available for a content management platform.

Make it make sense... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

Hosting website.

Having a website where we can upload digital content. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Varia Makagonova of Contentstack

Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback. I've shared this directly with our product team to help us improve the platform for all users. I wanted to see if I could help with a few items you mentioned directly, though:

1. You mentioned you don't have access to customer support. We make our customer support available to all users on all tiers, so you should have access. When you're in the platform, click on the ? to open the help center. There should be a bit Chat with Support button at the bottom. If you don't see this, please get in touch with your Customer Success Manager.

2. Customizing workflows is available to roles Developer, or above.

3. Regarding assets -- users are able to change the sorting/filtering in the table header, thought it'll reset if you move out of "assets". Additionally, the Image Preset App will allow a user to see the different edits they can make on delivery.

4. It looks like you don't have Live Preview set up yet, which would allow you to have the "preview function" you mention in your feedback. If you'd like our help setting this up for your organization, please get in touch with your Customer Success Manager. Here is the documentation on Live Preview: https://www.contentstack.com/docs/content-managers/author-content/about-live-preview

5. You mention a "second block of WYSIWYG input we are not allowed to touch" - this sounds like a field level permission where you're not allowed to edit that field. This is configurable in the content modeler.

6. Two Australian time zones - this sounds like a bug, our team is looking into it right now!

Thank you again for sharing your feedback, and please know it's being taken seriously. We're always here to help, so please get in touch with us if there's anything we can do to make your experience better!

What do you like best about Contentstack?

As a content writer and creator, I am constantly publishing various forms of long and short form content. Our company previously used dated CMS systems for each form of content, and I love that we're now able to have it all in one place. The design is sleek, easy to use, and the Contentstack team has been so helpful to adapt the dashboard to fit the unique needs of our business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

The variety of features can be overwhelming at times, as we are coming from a very basic CMS system. There was definitely a learning curve in the beginning! But I do think this will actually prove to be a strength as our company grows into the new system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

ContentStack is helping streamline our content management by keeping our blogs and individual posts all in one place. It's improved the collaboration across teams since we're now all working out of the same system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Contentstack?

It's so easy to find where everything is. Every page is set up basically the same so you can duplicate and organize your elements on each page quickly. I also really like the modern and simple UI because it's easy to the eyes. I don't have an extensive background in web development, so Contentstack makes it a breeze to update our website and publish blogs. I've ran into some minor issues before, but the support team is super responsive and helpful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

It seems base features are not super customizable, you really have to explore different partners in their ecosystem to be able to do more sophisticated things. Minor complaints from me are that there are some inconsistencies in what you can or can't do in certain elements (ex. being able to hyperlink in one text box but not another). This might be an issue in other CMS platforms as well, but I wish Contentstack would be able to publish quicker or at least show a preview quicker without having to refresh or wait for a while. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

Contentstack helps me with collaborating with my marketing team members when we are working on a new product page or blog together and it also makes it easy for me to publish pages without a web development background or having to ask one of our dev team members. I did not need too much training when I first started using Contentstack, so learning curve barrier is not too high. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Contentstack?

No coding is needed for the vast majority of tasks. Very minimal code knowledge (such as using a <strong> tag for bold) for certain text areas is useful, but again not strictly necessary. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

Hidden content and navigation. Unless you instinctively know where to click or what to look for through experience, some content modules are hidden until clicked/opened then clicked again then clicked to open. For saving screen space on a smaller screen, perhaps this is useful. But in an age of 32" to 42" HD monitors, this is more of a hinderance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

Once the user gains sufficient experience the system is actually fairly intuitive and making updates can be both fast and easy to execute. Being able to set up multiple content areas and schedule changes in advance is a critical feature for our use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Contentstack?

It hosts our website, so that's a good thing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

To be fair, I don't know if a lot of my challenges arise from Content Stack as a CMS or the agency that built the website, but it has been riddled with bugs and breaks constantly. It's not super user friendly and the way the components are set up it makes it confusing to build new pages. Also, it takes a very long time to publish. Sometimes hours. It's impossible to work in real time because of this issue. I would not recommend this system to anyone, unfortunately. Again, not sure if it works well for other people but our agency did not do a great job. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

It hosts our website. Now people can see we have a digital presence. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

I haven't come across much that I dislike about Contentstack. Some of the documentation seems to go out of date and may need to be refreshed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

Contenstack is acting as a central media store as well as text content store. We are allowing a user set to manage content as they see fit, while our application UI places that content on our webpages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Each section when editing is made clear to prevent any mistakes when creating and amending web pages. Hyperlinking a website within text is made easy and references make it clear when amending a page after some time. I use ContentStack for work on a daily basis and am satisfied with its functionality and easy use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

The only negative thing I have found is that when creating a new document page it only has the option to add an existing document. You need to save and come out of the new page in order to add a new document. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Contentstack?

Easy to use, very well documented API, overal flexibility with languages and environments. Customer support is relatively quick. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

Certain links not being able to open in a new tab (e.g. when selecting a stack). Reusing some content model pieces within the same content type - there's no way to copy paste them and using global fields is unnecessary/has its own limits (such as being unable to use a global field + some other fields in a modular block). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ability to create different content for different languages and environments, but also being able to reuse what was built in case there are no content differences among those languages/envs.

Ability to design our own plugins that our business users can utilize to display content in a desired format and layout. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Contentstack?

Making changes to our site with Contentstack is incredibly straightforward, allowing for quick updates to key pages and assets. The level of customization within the platform was overwhelming at first, but after spending some time in their "Academy", using the platform was a breeze. My entire team is using CS on the daily, and one of the biggest advantages is that even team members without programming skills can work independently with minimal support from our IT team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Contentstack?

The seemingly limitless customization options within the platform can be overwhelming for those not familiar with working with a headless CMS. It can be pretty easy to get lost in the details with so many possibilities, which can slow down decision-making and implementation. For teams that don't have a clear strategy for their website, the flexibility might lead to inconsistency in content management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Contentstack solving and how is that benefiting you?

CS offers the flexibility we need from a CMS to manage content across a variety of different platforms (website, mobile devices, etc). It integrates very well with our tech stack, which was a problem we experienced in the past with other CMS platforms, and it's also one of the most affordable headless CMS solutions we found. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
