As a Senior Business Solution Consultant I find Meltwater has been an incredible tool for media monitoring and analytics needs. The platform's intuitive interface and robust features make it a go-to tool for tracking media mentions, analyzing trends, and getting insights through customizable dashboards to focus on relevant KPIs.
The AI-Search Assistant helps a lot when it comes to create or refine searches, also the AI-Powered Insights help to get more accurate results like mentions or sentiment among other relevant KPIs. Additionally, the Engage portion helps a lot when it comes to integrating Social Media Management all in one place, even when it comes to moderate conversations in real time with the community.

It's extremely expensive. My current contract includes only some base features for PR monitoring. I use this regularly but for the price you would expect it to include a lot more of the other features. At a bear minimum I would expect a reporting feature on the lower tier but it's a purchasable add-on. Meltwater is great, but only if you have the cash to splurge. In my opinion, Meltwater has the most comprehensive tracking software available to public relations representatives. When compared over the years to its peers, it could consistently gather more data than its competitors, leading to more comprehensive reports.

It's reporter database is ok, improving over the years tremendously, but I too often find generic emails for press contacts or a lack of current updates. From demoing competitors, I think there are other programs that do this better. In addition, sending and tracking emails through the system is not a great option, given the lack of customization you are able to provide (only fill in the blanks, not customized sentences or notes). Where it matters most, it excels. Most press contacts can be found through a little digging and other sources.

The quick reporting and downloadable graphics created are fantastic when pulling together campaign reports across press and socials at speed. It's also intuitive. When I click on something I want more information about it goes where I would expect it to. We use it weekly and more frequently during specific campaigns. Prior to Meltwater, my team relied on Google Alerts and manual searches to monitor for our hard-earned media coverage. Ultimately, it got the job done, but it was tedious, time consuming and I knew we were leaving placements on the table. Meltwater totally changed that for us. Now, we have 24/7 monitoring of our keywords - as well as important industry terms that we rarely had realtime visibility into. AND that's just the monitoring part of Meltwater. Our merchandising and reporting has completely evolved (much more professional!) now that we have access to Reports and Newsletters - both of which are curated for us, saving us valuable time.

It's incredibly helpful to have a one-stop-shop for monitoring brand coverage (and being able to filter by coverage type!), setting up press release wires, and media list building all in one tool. I use meltwater virtually every day in my role and in many ways it blows other PR tools out of the water. It's easy to navigate and customer support is always on deck to help with any roadblocks. The only things I would change are the limitations - you can only download so many contacts per month, and adding more than 500 contacts to a given media list is tedious since you have to add them in batches, which can be difficult given the limitations of the search function.
