We use Umbraco all the time, for most of our projets. It's easy to get up and running quickly. The release cadence is great, with constant new features, well-defined support and mostly smooth upgrades. It's also very easy to customize, to add new functionalities specific to a client's needs, and to integrate with their other systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The divide between Umbraco Cloud and self-hosted options can be jarring, with some features only available to cloud customers. I'd like a better native sync implementation to more easlily copy config and content accross installations. The uSync project covers most of those needs, but is a community project.
I also think workflows could be better. Umbraco Workflow feels a bit limited, but I admitedly don't have a lot of experience with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Umbraco is an open source community driven piece of software with a long history, backed by a brilliant community of developers who are interested in driving long-term value and not chasing short-term trends. The umbraco community values being current, performant, flexible, and competitive; while also valuing backwards compatibility and coherence.
Umbraco developers are competent, experienced, and usually senior. Your up-front investment in an Umbraco website will be slightly higher, and you might not get all the features on day 1, but your work will not age like milk. You will never find yourself on a burning or obsolete platform, you won't suffer vendor lock-in, and you won't be constrained by pre-built features that don't actually quite meet your actual demands. Once built, you'll be able to do things like change visual designs without changing platform.
If you're in it for the long haul, and looking for an investment in a website which is more CapEx than OpEx, this is your CMS. Businesses seeking a long term solution that will be easy for content editors, and survive multiple re-designs and industry trends, you will love this. If you're in an established business that needs low OpEx, high reliability and performance, and the ability to invest in CapEx in good times, this is the CMS for you. Technical businesses that have other .NET or Microsoft / Azure based assets will definitely find this CMS is highly suited to their needs.
Umbraco is the Hilux of CMSes. It costs a bit extra to get, but it won't die, it'll do the job brilliantly, and it'll outlast both luxury and budget CMSes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Compared to some of the easier to develop CMSes on the latest and greatest tech, Umbraco can be about 6-12 months behind on the absolute latest and greatest features. They take a European attitude to software development, they like doing things well, in ways that will last, and once proven, they will market it. For reasons of the longevity of the platform, a lot of the documentation assumes a level of experience which can make it very difficult to get up to speed and get started. These are acceptable trade-offs when you consider the benefits, and they can be mitigated by community involvement and understanding the development roadmap of the product.
If you regard your CMS as an accelerator for a marketing project that you will dispose of in 4-5 years, consider a cloud based CMS with pre-built features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Having recently come back to Umbraco I am very happy with the product and now use it daily in my job. I love the flexibility and the extensibility of the product and how easy it is to build on top of! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would like the functionality provided by UI builder to be part of the core product so that you can extend the back office UI without having to rely on a paid add on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
BlockList provides the component-driven development model. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The community is very energetic, friendly and supportive. As a first timer, everyone from the Umbraco team helped me get into the environment easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I do not have something to complain about, apart from the team being the coolest 😎 there should be something left for us, ordinary people, as well hahah Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
