There is really not much to dislike. Some advanced features do rely on third-party extensions which can be limiting, but the flexibility and customisation options usually more than make up for that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I am a superuser managing over 200 editor accounts, who make changes on our site and then I approve the workflow. The user interface is straightforward and most editors are very happy with the day-to-day editing. We have an external team of developers who customise a lot of the features for us, and these usually work well and the editors find them easy to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Our site is extremely large with over a thousand nodes and hundreds of users to manage. I feel Umbraco was designed to handle smaller sites, as user management and searching this many nodes is a bit clunky. It also seems to be a bit tricky to integrate with other systems, but this is done by a third party for us, so I cannot comment on how easily this is done, only that communication between Umbraco and other systems is often unpredictable, whether it's via XML or an API. I love how you can create almost anything in Umbraco. And if you have any issues, there is a big community and a great documentation to help you. You actually need to know what you are doing, because Umbraco is so open. When you create something, you will almost never find something exactly the same, so you can't rely on other peoples work. We use Umbraco for all new web projects. Compared with several other content management systems I have used, Umbraco's back end experience is far superior. The hierarchical presentation of site content closely matches the way our site architects map out the content of a site. This in turn, makes intuitive sense to editors as they update the site.
There is a good balance between presenting enough information to understand and execute a task and, on the other hand, keeping the interface simple to avoid overloading the user with options. This is true for both the development and editing experiences. Help text is easy to configure, and presented in a way that helps a new user understand an input field when they first encounter it, but doesn't get in the way of experienced editors. Input fields can be grouped intuitively in multiple ways to aid understanding.
Extensive online documentation makes implementation relatively easy. It is possible and usually quite easy to add custom controls for editing content. I've built icon selectors, data-driven drop-downs, and a spreadsheet-style tabular data control among others. Dashboards can be created to provide a presentation of custom data for more in depth integrations with outside data. Content Apps allow yet another way to customize an editor's interaction with content. I've used these for things like triggering email sends from an "event" page or exporting data for use in an external system.
For those using their hosting platform, Umbraco Cloud, customer support is done by way of a chat widget in the cloud interface and/or by email. The two systems can be used interchangeably. Support staff is always helpful and friendly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As with many content management systems, Umbraco is always evolving. This is generally a good thing, but recently required us to rebuild entire websites because of a shift to a new platform (.NET Core). On top of that, the next version will require us to revamp the back end because they are changing the underlying infrastructure for customizations. I'm hoping these two significant changes are followed by a more stable upgrade cycle in the future.
Their timeline for long term support (LTS) versions is, in my estimation, too short. I don't like the idea of having to do a significant upgrade on a website every two years because the major version of the site is no longer supported, which opens the site up to any newly discovered security vulnerabilities. I realize the pace of the development of new web technologies is generally pretty breakneck, but I'm a firm believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Umbraco is probably the most flexible and composable CMS out there on the market. Not only is it extremely easy to use as a developer and CMS user, but the level of integration and customisationg is unparralled.

Sometimes it is not perfectly clear where a modification will take action or not, if I modify the order of promotions in the promotions section, if at the same time in the home page - promotion section area - I have a different order set, that change will not take action because it goes in conflict with the "genitor" page, hp.
That is correct! But maybe an error message/or explanatory pop-up would help the user, I guess.
Sometimes the image size for picture suggested are not correctly written/slightly different than what actually would be needed/perfect. (The information displayed on the side of the image boxes I mean).
Sometimes the image in the banners on the top of a landing page is displayed with a dark layer over it, like a fading... and that is not possible to deactivate.
The position of a title and subhead on a banner, is not possible to be moved e.g. top-right/top-left bottm-right/bottom-left. In starting up my digital consultancy, I needed a CMS that was easy to use for both clients and myself as a developer. It is easy to integrate & implement across multiple clients. Generally the system is fantastic. There were some teething issues educating clients about the Umbraco 7 eol, but I think their future roadmap is clear & concise, so this shouldn't come as such a shock to clients moving forward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
For me the functionality and flexiblity of forms is a huge benefit to an increased user experience. The piping on cvourses allowing for different outcomes is so flexble, meaning versatlie forms aimed at different audiences can be created with ease. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
