Square Payroll Pros and Cons

Square does everything for us! It is so difficult being a business owner with employees because you always have to worry about following reporting laws etc, but Square does all of that automatically! You never have to worry about sending W-2s again! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

More options for deductions would be great. Our employees eat for different amounts each week that they want deducted from their pay instead of using their card at the store and we can only set up automatic deductions at a certain amount, so we have to manually deduct each week. Our employees can log in at the beginning of their shift, and clock out when they are done (or go on their breaks), and Square takes all the guesswork out of it. They literally run payroll for you automatically while making sure you are compliant with state and federal laws. Also sends out the new hire forms etc, for you and W-2s around tax time! SO EASY! I wish there was a way to set up a one-time subtraction from someone's paycheck. I understand that it might lead to a lot of people doing things they shouldn't, but we allow our employees to "pay" from their paycheck when they eat or drink at work. Most employees prefer this and we have a contract that states they agreed to this, but Square only allows for repeated subtractions. So we have to do the math ourselves and calculate the new amount. Square Payroll is the best payroll processing service for contractors that I could find when I started my business. True, it's pretty much the only one -- but their customer support is great, and it's amazing that I can submit direct deposit to contractors for a flat $5 monthly fee per user. It's a well-known company used in stores and companies nationwide, unlike some payroll services that sounds sketchy. Also, by using Square POS system, our employees timecards will automatically sync with the Square Payroll app. That is the biggest benefit I believe by using it.
