PolicyPak Overview

What is PolicyPak?

PolicyPak, now part of Netwrix, is a modern desktop management platform for the "anywhere" workforce. PolicyPak provides a powerful policy creation, management, and deployment framework that extends the policy management, security, automation, and reporting capabilities found within Windows Active Directory, Unified Endpoint Management Solutions, MDM providers, virtualization platforms, and cloud services. PolicyPak comes with Paks, each with its own set of customizable policies that enable IT and teams to solve today's most-significant desktop management challenges like remote work, Windows 10 management, GPO sprawl, ransomware, Group Policy management, and more. PolicyPak lowers IT costs, increases security, improves compliance, reduces GPOs, and puts the IT admin back in charge. PolicyPak has hundreds of customers, over a million deployed seats, is an Inc. 5000 recognized company, and a G2 Crowd High Performer. What do you like best about PolicyPak?

Central management of policies for domain and non-domain environments as well as its ability to manage least privilege access. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

All policies defined at the "ALL" level (root level) are enforced and you can't create counter policies at lower levels. It can be accomplished by creating a structure under Company Groups. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

PolicyPak is a powerful tool for managing endpoints. Like domain based Group Policy implementation planning, you do need to take the time to plan out and test. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ability to manage non-domain environments in a similar way to domain environments. Ability to take away admin permissions, but give admin permissions to specific apps will be a great advantage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

We love the application manager, browser router, cloud features that can be coupled with on premises features Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

This is an incredibly deep product that can be quite overwhelming. Have a goal and get your quick wins - build from there Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

Because this is such a deep product, it can get very over whelming very quickly. Pick a targeted project, get some wins and then move one. Don't try to do everything at one time Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are using primarily for the browser router features Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

PolicyPak is very ease to use once configured - we can quickly change desktop shortcuts, mapped network drives, user settings, etc. like you would in Group Policy via an online portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

The initial setup of Policy Pak requires you to setup a Server operating system, download a bunch of programs, and is very confusing to start - a lot of information goes out via E-Mail at which point I felt very bombarded and ended up taking months for me to circle back around to actually do it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

With PolicyPak, we are in the process of eliminating onsite file Servers with the assistance of SharePoint, Azure AD, and Policy Pak this is becoming a possibility. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

Secure run alone makes PolicyPak worth using. Jeremy Moskowitz and the entire PolicyPak team are a great group of people to work with and very quick to help and resolve any issue that may arise. Being able to have control of the computers using policies while being in the cloud. Very easy to install and setup. Being able to manage the start screen and taskbar is very nice. Very useful videos on how to do anything with PP. If there is anything that we would like to see added to PP, Jeremy is very willing to listen and make the addition to the software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

I don't have any dislikes so far. Anything that we need or would like to do with PolicyPak is in development and on the way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

If you are considering using PolicyPak definitely do the trial. Go through the Bootcamp and trainings offered, they are free and very informative. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are able to take away admin rights for all and only allow what is required. Being able to control the computers with policies even though we are 100% in the cloud. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

Full feature set has empowered our use of Intune/Endpoint Manager in O365/Azure. Now we can quickly and easily deploy settings, policies, and files to all our staff working from home. This solution has solved many problems we were facing. Could not have quickly and easily survived COVID-19 work-from-home orders without it! Extensive video trainings are in small, easily followed chucks that cover every aspect of the toolset with real-world examples that can be applied in minutes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

There is not currently anything I dislike about it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

Deployed multiple GPO policies to computers that are not connected to corporate network:

- Changed time settings

- Changed Windows Update settings

- Changed Power Management settings

Deployed files to remote computers using PolicyPak. Files are then executed using scripts deployed with PolicyPak. Files are deployed using a zip file stored on an Azure Blob share. To deploy additional files, just have to upload an updated zip file. PolicyPak takes care of the rest automatically.

Using PolicyPak, we are able to deploy software updates for various non-Microsoft applications overnight. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

All the extra control and security with zero additional infrastructure requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

May be slightly less feature-rich compared to other alternatives, but still quite powerful in its own right. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are able to realize least privilege policy without the productivity-killing of leaving users completely downgraded. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

First and foremost, Jeremy Moskowitz and his team know Group Policy inside and out. You might say Jeremy wrote the book on it. I know I can trust PolicyPak and the PP team to help me manage my endpoints. Next is that PolicyPak is frequently updated and expanded to cover more and more configuration settings. It can be hard to keep up with the updates. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

What do I dislike about PP? It can be hard to keep up with the updates. There are so many updates, I end up not knowing what cool new stuff is added. But it never fails that when I check back to see what's new, there are always useful improvements. Things I didn't even know I needed Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

Read up on what PolicyPak does and if it sounds interesting, give it a trial run. The PolicyPak staff are great to work with, their customer support is excellent (quick answers, complete answers, friendly answers) and I've never had a bad experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

The most recent problem we resolved with PP is configuring Teams. In the midst of this COVID mess, we're rolling out Teams as hard and fast as we can so as to avoid users adopting Zoom (nothing against Zoom, but we already own Teams and have more control of it). Microsoft's out-of-the-box Teams ADMX doesn't currently allow for much tweaking of the behavior of the app, but with PP, I can manage the user's experience. It may sound like a small thing, but setting Teams to open in the background instead of 'in your face' polishes off one of the sharp edges that sort of makes users angry at Teams.

PP Least Privilege Manager is also great. It allows me to whitelist select companies so that even standard users can install apps from these companies. Apple's iTunes for example, or testbanks from book publishers (we're a small college). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

We primarily got PolicyPak for the ability to application whitelist. After spending many days trying to configure Microsoft Applocker with no success I tried PolicyPak and had it up and running within a few hours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

Nothing really. It's a shame they don't have local support in Australia where I am from however, the response from their help desk is quick. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

I recommend anyone wanting to offer higher levels of security to their InTune deployed devices to give PolicyPaK a trial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

Application whitelisting was the main problem. We are deploying our laptops via Microsoft InTune which is great compared to SCCM but not quite as mature. PolicyPak has helped fill in a few gaps that InTune does not cover. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

We have been looking for a while on ways to secure and manage Windows workstations without having a Windows DC available (or distributed workforce). PolicyPak ticks all the boxes, is not bound to Microsoft licencing constraints and allows us to remote manage on prem as well as off site devices with ease. Highly recommended in lieu of Hosted AD / Azure as much more viable and also supports stuff beyond the MS landscape.

Support and proactive product development make PP Cloud an awesome tool for our cyber security toolkit. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

the only items we had issues with have been resolved in the last 3 months. The only thing that may be a hurdle for small MSPs is the 100 seat minimum requirement. But if used across the client base, that's a minor issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

Implement it, you wont look back Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

Securing remote work places

Securing environments without Windows Domain controllers

Leveraging AD without a DC

Using AD control to OVERRIDE local AD control Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PolicyPak?

Audit mode before roll out

Support responsiveness Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PolicyPak?

Cloud interface needs a bit of polish (but a lot of our nice to haves are in the pipeline) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering PolicyPak:

Make the jump! The ease of use when compared to something like AD is amazing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is PolicyPak solving and how is that benefiting you?

As an MSP we are supporting a large variety of customer environments and requirements. Our requirement has been to be able to manage policy settings centrally across these different environments, at price that is palatable to the SMB market. PolicyPak Cloud has made this so easy. From developing a baseline policy to tailoring for each customer, it's hard to imagine how it could have been easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
