mmhmm Overview

What is mmhmm?

mmhmm is a presentation app that takes your webcam feed and layers it on top of presentation slides. You control the look and feel of the screen. When you give a presentation on a live video call, mmhmm shares the webcam and images to your videoconferencing app as a “virtual camera.” You can also use mmhmm to record a lightweight video which saves to the cloud so your audience can watch anytime.

What do you like best about mmhmm?

You can put your video feed (your face or body) in FRONT of the slide, especially if you need to emphasize a point. Putting yourself in front puts focus on your words and what you are saying. It engages you with the speaker (you). Slides are so easy to "tune out," but it is harder to tune out a living, breathing, hand waving person in front of the screen. (Slides still have info and pictures, so you still use them). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about mmhmm?

I use PowerPoint, and everything I do (educational courses, presentations) is ALREADY in Powerpoint. I find integrating PowerPoint into mmhmm to be a little clunky (the benefit outweighs the clunkiness at the moment). Mmhmm recommends making all your slides native in mmhmm for the most streamlined process, but this is definitely a learning curve, and just importing all your old stuff doesn't work as beautifully as you'd hope. Because the meld between PowerPoint, Zoom, and mmhmm is not seamless (for me at least), I find a "learning and redoing" component. I feel that if I truly understood how to use mmhmm fully, I could catapult my courses from "wow, that's a lot better" to "wow that's amazing!" but I don't have the time in my schedule to jump from "better" to "amazing." mmhmm has tons of untapped potential. I'm just not sure if that potential is attainable for me (or people who want to be fabulous without 100% jumping ship from PowerPoint - when you are an old-school presenter, it can be hard to quit!).

Also, I have a mid-level conference camera and wish I had a pro one. Sometimes i have a little of the gel look outline in my presentations.

mmhmm says they just have regular cameras, and I have tried a green screen, but I have never been able to get anything as clean and crisp as mmhmm presenters. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering mmhmm:

You might have to upgrade your video conference camera or possibly use a green screen (I still haven't been able to make the green screen work for me).

When you can, make new presentations inside mmhmm.

Try to think outside the normal Powerpoint box when using mmhmm.

How can you present data with you or a picture as the focus, not a slide of words or data

Practice ahead of time with the controls before presenting.

Sign into ZOOM WAY WAY IN advance so you can figure out how all the screen sharey stuff works.

Having 2-3 monitors (or two monitors attached to my laptop) is extremely useful when presenting.

I always log in on my cell phone as a "regular" user to all my webinars so I can see how things look from the viewer's perspective.

Record your meetings or practices, so you can decide later what looks great in mmhmm and what was "too silly" (you can teleport, dissolve, disappear, shrink, you name it, energize). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is mmhmm solving and how is that benefiting you?

I work in healthcare, so much of what I do references parts of the body and "ACTIONS," which I find is easier to describe when using these tools: A BODY and MOVEMENT.

Videos are excellent, but talking over a video can be just as dull, and when teaching concepts "in the moment," you might not have a fun video handy. Putting yourself in FRONT of your slide or DATA can provide emphasis, focus, and descriptive content, all from your energy. I also feel like it adds humor since I can pop up in different places on the screen, shrink myself when I need to get out of the way, etc. Plus, I do lots of pointing at pictures and diagrams, but not with a POINTER! I point with my gestures! Mmhmm also makes presenting so much fun. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about mmhmm?

mmhmm allows me to combine multiple input sources and multiple effects without any technical complexity to improve my presentations by making them more interactive and exciting. Presentations can be quite monotonous at times, and it's challenging to keep an audience engaged during webinars, and in Covid times, every presentation was a remote presentation. Being able to add interactive elements was a great addition and has led to a lot of positive customer feedback on my presentation style. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about mmhmm?

There's nothing to dislike. The application works well and is very stable. Development is quick and efficient and new stuff gets added constantly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is mmhmm solving and how is that benefiting you?

My challenge has always been to keep remote presentations and webinars interesting and engaging. Face-to-face presentations allow you to interact with customers but remote presentations are completely different and many customers will be tempted to disconnect from a presentation and do something else. Using mmhmm has consistently led to more engagement during presentations, and the biggest benefit has been a faster sales cycle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about mmhmm?

I like that you can have yourself while still showing your "presentation" at the same time. Super cool idea for engagement during virtual sessions Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about mmhmm?

The UX still needs a decent amount of work. It would also be great to customize the look, style, and size of the presentation/images. We found that we couldn't get everything quite as big as we wanted, especially if there was text. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is mmhmm solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are trying to create a more engaging environment for the virtual hybrid world Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
