Mattermost has made my life easier. That's because I could use this service to bring my team closer and make projects more effective with my main chat tool. Its messaging service offers the possibility to create special groups, such as public or private groups, to communicate with people, and its main system tool - Chat, because I like it, does a good job to improve communication and achieve very visible results. It's awesome the software can be customized to suit your needs. For example, as the company for which I worked started to evolve, we needed software application that was able to keep up with that growth and monitor internal communication until then. Mattermost is highly extensible. Since it is self-hosted and open source, there are a number of integrations possible that are not possible with Slack. A major one I've enjoyed is really *native* LaTeX support. Slack and Discord have bots to do TeXify messages, but it's a bit annoying that they always appear separately. Mattermost is a straight forward messaging system with no extra bloat.I like that I can use the desktop application, or log in through a web browser. I'm able to create Public Channels (think chatrooms), Private Channels, and do Direct Messaging. Creating a new group is as simple as clicking on a plus sign and adding more users.

I'm also able to setup different servers, and have them available as tabs across the top of my window. The development team here integrated Mattermost with Jira and our Wiki, so we have some bots that inform us deployment updates and issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
