The reality is there isn't anything else that enables seamless access to everyone from decision-makers to gate-keepers, and you can set very customized targeting in whatever initiatives you are trying to put into play. My favorite things about LinkedIn are skill based targeting and company lists. Skills targeting allows you to target people by not only the skills they list on their profile, but also the skills they include in job descriptions and in their bio. Combined with job function, job seniority, and company/industry targeting, it is extremely powerful. Not only do you target someone based on what their job is, but also what they actually do in their day-to-day. You can also use this to target competitor users or integration partner users. Company lists are amazing because they enable ABM campaigns, but their hidden superpower is that they can be used to generate reports on how companies are engaging with your website and page, not just ads. I wish LinkedIn's lead gen forms were more customizable, web remarketing audiences were more customizable, lead gen retargeting audiences updated automatically, matched audiences matched faster, lookalikes were close to anywhere as useful as they are on Facebook, and that you could run more than one ad type in a campaign. LinkedIn marketing both from a paid and organic standpoint is an incredible tool when it comes to providing important company updates, reaching specific users that are associated with their industry or role, or when it comes to business development and growth internally in terms of reaching new potential clients from an ad agency standpoint. While it's targeting is hyper specific it serves a very specifically beneficial purpose that other social platforms simply cannot accomplish. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Of course LinkedIn is a very specific platform that is highly related to organizational communications and as such is extremely limited for what it can do for our clients as a creative ad agency. There are certainly times when it can be used to grow business for our clients, especially for industry specific products or services, but holistically, it's much better served as an internal tool.
