Nothing. It is really a bad piece of software that should be abandoned. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As a developer having to build portals on top of Liferay it regularly makes me want to throw my computer out the window. We have multiple senior engineers at our company who threaten to quit if they ever have to work on a Liferay project again.
It might be a bit cheaper than the competition (but still super expensive) but even the simplest task can take very long. E.g it took a team of 8 engineers two months to update a website from Liferay 7.0 to 7.1.
It injects a full Bootstrap 4 and about 2MB of other crap (e.g. YUI) into the UI of your website. If you happen to also use Bootstrap 4 it will mess up your CSS. You cannot get rid of their Admin UI even for non-admin users if you want to use Liferay Forms. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Liferay is very customizable and can solve various needs without being overly complex right out of the box. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
If the platform is not set up right initially, some simple features can become more laborious than intended. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The JEE platform allowed us to deploy custom apps as well as a B2E portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is very little I dislike about the Product. As a Packaged Solution - we just have to live with the ebbs & flows of the new version release cycle. I would not be a first adopter of a new version/dot release - I would wait for service pack releases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are may thinks like bookmarks, search, web-content management, roles & permission, user management available out of box. I like the most is the content management in liferay dxp. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I am a Java developer and I just used liferay to develop a hybrid application for my company/client, and I see it works like spring boot framework, so its familiar for me to learn more about this framework. And I am still in progress to learn and to compare which framework it's convenience for me as a developer to develop more. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I have been working on the Liferay platform as a Java developer for several years now both in my full time job and as an open source contributor. I like Liferay above all other platforms because of it's flexibility and extensible. Liferay has done a great job providing a solid platform (complete with a strong SDK surrounding users, account management, social integration API's, communication API's, etc) while not restricting the developer or owner in any way.. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Because of Liferay is very extensible there is a strong learning curve. This is not a bad thing, but the worst thing about the platform (and this can be said for any large platform) is that some of the integrations points are drastically under documented. As a resulted it takes years to truly become a SME and at a certain level you are essentially going to be inventing the wheel Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
