**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

In addition to the continued savings and support with our outside counsel spend, the Brightflag team guided us smoothly through the implementation process. We were able to consolidate several platforms we had been using for matter management, e-billing, case updates, document management, and more into Brightflag. Having a single, easily accessible source of information has made it much easier for the Legal Department to share updates with outside counsel and across business units. Our Senior Customer Success Manager, Sharon Palchak, continues to suggest new ideas for getting even more out of Brightflag, and she is truly a joy to work with.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The only real downside, in my view, is that there isn’t enough time or resources to develop every suggested improvement all at once. That said, Brightflag does a fantastic job prioritizing new features so they deliver the most positive impact for customers.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having the ability to compare historical rates, as well as rates across all of our outside firms, has given us the data we need to push back on requested rate increases and better control them. Our legal team uses accruals and matter budgets to better understand and manage matter spend. More recently, we added Advanced Matter Management, and my GC now uses the dashboard daily to get valuable insight into current matters, spend, and workloads. Overall, we’ve seen year-over-year savings on outside counsel spend, along with better communication among multiple departments, outside counsel, and our Third-Party Administrators.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag is intuitive to use, and its AI chat assistant is a great resource when I need help. The analytics Brightflag provides are also very useful for staying on top of legal spend, and they help support Legal’s partnership with Finance.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

Some straightforward edits still require reaching out to Brightflag to have them implemented. For example, updating vendor admins, changing recipients for scheduled reports, and editing workflows all seem to require Brightflag’s involvement. It would be great if Brightflag could move toward a system that gives customers more autonomy to make these kinds of changes on their own. Also, the search bar in the system doesn’t work very well and could definitely be improved.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brightflag helps us streamline outside counsel billing. We can categorize matters and log timekeepers along with their rates and hours worked. The information Brightflag captures also gives us clearer insight into how Legal is spending the outside counsel budget, including which practice areas and which firms are driving that spend. Overall, it helps Legal maintain more control over costs and improve how we engage with law firms over time.

Brightflag makes legal spend management feel effortless. The AI-driven invoice review is genuinely impressive — it catches non‑compliant billing entries automatically, which saves hours of manual review. The interface is clean, intuitive, and fast, so it never feels like a chore to use. I also appreciate how easy it is to track budgets, accruals, and matter-level spend in real time. It gives me confidence that nothing is slipping through the cracks.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

Any minor issues I’ve had were resolved quickly by their support team.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brightflag has streamlined our entire invoice review process. Previously, we spent a lot of time manually checking line items, enforcing billing guidelines, and tracking spend across matters. Now, the system handles most of that automatically, which has made the workflow smoother and more consistent. It has also improved our visibility into legal spend, helping with forecasting, budgeting, and having more informed conversations with outside counsel. Overall, it has reduced administrative work while improving accuracy.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag is one of those legal tech tools that simply works well in day-to-day use. The UI is intuitive, clean and easy to understand, even for users who only interact with the system occasionally, for example to review and approve invoices. That matters a lot in a corporate legal environment because adoption depends heavily on whether business users and lawyers can use a tool without lengthy explanations.

For admins and Legal Operations users, Brightflag is also easy to configure and manage. Approval workflows, matter structures and other setup elements can be adjusted without the system feeling overly complex or technical. The platform also gives us a much better view of our legal spend, historic invoices, matter-level cost development and external counsel activity. This has made our spend data much more accessible and useful for reporting, analysis and decision-making.

The customer success and onboarding support have also been excellent. We have a very hands-on customer success manager, regular check-ins and practical support when improving the setup or onboarding additional teams and countries. That has been an important factor in making the tool successful beyond the initial implementation.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The main limitation for us is around language support in the AI invoice review. The AI analysis works well for English invoices, but additional languages come at extra cost. For an international organisation, this is not ideal. Given where AI translation and multilingual analysis are today, I would expect broader language support to be included more naturally in the product.

The “Ask Brightflag” AI feature is a useful direction, but in my view it is not yet at the same level as modern AI tools in terms of responsiveness, quality of output and overall user experience. It has potential, but this is still an area where the product can improve.

Pricing is also not low. However, the value is clear if the tool is used properly and rolled out with the right processes behind it.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brightflag helps us manage external legal spend in a much more structured and transparent way. It gives us one place for invoices, matters, approval workflows, billing guideline checks and spend data.

The biggest practical benefits are faster invoice approvals, less manual effort, better visibility of legal spend and a much stronger basis for reporting and analysis. The system flags potential billing guideline issues or irregularities, which makes invoice review more efficient and more consistent. It also gives us a reliable historic record of invoices and spend, which is very valuable for budgeting, matter reviews, law firm discussions and strategic legal operations work.

Overall, Brightflag has become an important part of how we professionalise legal spend management. It supports both the operational side of invoice handling and the strategic side of understanding and managing external counsel spend.

What I Like About Brightflag: After evaluating multiple e-billing solutions, we adopted Brightflag this year to modernize our outside counsel spend management, and it's exceeded expectations on several fronts.

AI-Powered Invoice Review: The automated invoice routing and approvals features have been transformative for our team.  For a lean legal operations team supporting a global, all-remote company, this time savings directly translates to more bandwidth for strategic work. The AI flags guideline violations and discount application issues immediately, which has tightened our spend controls considerably.

Implementation Speed: Brightflag's implementation was remarkably fast compared to other enterprise legal tech we've deployed. When they shared that we would be up and running within 1 month of signature, I was skeptical, but the Brightflag team delivered. Their team understood our cross-functional requirements and configured the system accordingly. We were up and running in weeks, not months.

Spend Visibility: The real-time dashboard gives us exactly we need to make data driven decisions: clean, accessible data on legal spend by matter, practice area, and cost center. This visibility has already improved our quarterly budget conversations and helped us identify optimization opportunities we simply couldn't see in our previous spreadsheet-based approach.

Customer Support: Their support team lives up to the hype. Response times are consistently under an hour, and our Customer Success Manager proactively reaches out with optimization suggestions tailored to our usage patterns. This is the level of partnership you need when rolling out new systems across a distributed organization.

I don't have much to say about my dislikes. I will say that our API integration with our payment processing platform took slightly longer than anticipated.

Brightflag has fundamentally shifted our legal operations from reactive administration to proactive strategic management. Our team spends less time on invoice processing and reporting, and more time on initiatives that directly support our company's growth.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

I have worked with the Brightflag team and their product for six years. When considering total cost of implementation and ownership, as well as functionality and performance, I believe it is by far the best Ebilling system available. I have used and implemented nearly every legal technology in the ELM space, so I am familiar with both the strengths and weaknesses of these platforms. Brightflag, which was built on AI from the beginning, is exceptionally easy to implement and use. In contrast, other platforms often require months or even years to implement and can cost up to a hundred times more. The combination of an excellent tool and outstanding service from the Brightflag team continues to make it an easy choice for our global Ebilling system.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

I continue to request that they advance the development of features on their roadmap. I would like to see greater depth in work types, taxonomy, accruals, and other areas. The tool is fantastic, but we are always looking for additional ways to capture data and make more informed decisions.

By using this tool, we are able to track our total legal spend worldwide, which enables us to process payments more quickly, cut down on emails and phone calls with our firms, and gain better insight into our expenditures and decision-making.

Getting everything set up is very quick, and uploading invoices is just as fast. The AI automatically reviews invoices, which saves our team a lot of time. It’s also easy to track spending by department.

The onboarding process was frustrating at times because we ran into a few issues integrating it with our AP software.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It saves us time because vendors upload their invoices directly. We can review invoices, flag any discrepancies, and quickly pull the reports we need. The automatic reminder emails are also helpful, and overall it’s made our team more aware of the budget.

one weak point: the fact that for a single matter, one's can't specify several worklows with conditions. Because some times, for a same matter, some invoices will need the approval of a counsel A and others from a counsel B

The platform itself is really user friendly and intuitive. But more than that, Brightflag is a true partner making sure your team is successful as long as you are their customer. The customer service is beyond anything I’ve experienced with other vendors. We truly feel we have a partner in Brightflag.

There is some functionality that exists in other ebilling platforms that is not available with Brightflag, but even those are nice to have and not must haves. Also, the dashboards are not configurable, so you get what they give you out of the box.

When it comes to support, as always things are too generic and general in the beginning. It can take a while to get in touch with an actual expert to resolve issues.

Brightflag is helping us with documentation and storing information as well was online billing. I think we are using it at a very surface level as we are new to the system but I look forward to seeing everything else we can do in the system!

I’ve used Brightflag for a few years now across two different legal operations teams, and it’s consistently been the best tool in its category. The setup process is smooth, especially with the guidance of the implementation and success teams. What really sets Brightflag apart, in my opinion, is that their customer success managers stay involved long after implementation. They’re always there to help tailor the platform to your organization’s specific needs, and the platform itself is designed with in-house legal teams in mind, which makes it far more intuitive and effective than generic spend management tools. It also integrates with many adjacent systems your finance teams may already use, which makes it even more seamless for cross-functional partners to adopt as part of existing processes.

Honestly, I don’t have real “dislikes.” Any time a question or issue comes up, the Brightflag team is quick to jump in, troubleshoot, and help us find a solution. Their responsiveness makes a huge difference.

The only area of improvement would be: when law firms/ vendors have technical difficulties, they often dont know to reach out to Brightflag first and how to. They often reach out to us as customers with technical difficulties.

I love the way Brightflag allows me, as an administrator, to help both internal users and external users - many problems are solved by having this administrator talking to both sides. I also like the help service provided by Brightflag - it's normally Tom who comes back to us and he is very quick and can solve most problems instantly. Emily is brilliant for our regular meet ups and explaining additional features we may not be using

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

I dislike the reporting in Brightflag. It just feels like anything you need to know means creating another report and that can be time consuming, also the output isn't very pleasing as it is just an excel spreadsheet.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I don't think we have ever had a system for invoices where we can view them, change them and approve them ready for payment - it is also good that they are all in one place which is protection against paying invoices twice - even though reporting is long winded, it does provide us with more information than we had before

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

From the moment of implementation to our daily use, we have had great support with the implementation team, training, CSM and customer support. Everyone works with you to obtain the results you want to obtain and/or fix a hiccup and learn how to use the system. We were no longer tracking accruals and expenses manually and being able to control timekeeper rates, budgets, reporting, forecasting spend, communication with regards to expectations for year and being able to institute that decision. We have a special function required for certain vendors and Brightflag worked with us to be able to upload different invoices and track a different accrual. The Brightflag team is always working to help us obtain the results that are required. Our CSM is always available and communicates with us frequently to make sure everything is ok, and our monthly meetings help us keep Brightflag clean and gives insights of any patterns that we might want to address.  As the administrator I use Brigthflag daily, and with my daily usage, I can easily move through the system.

I do not dislike anything, but if I do see something that I think could make it easier, then I reach out to my CSM or Brightflag support to make a suggestion or see if I am doing something wrong.

Control on spend - ensuring budgets are being met, control of timekeeper increases, ease of tracking spend and accruals.

Brightflag is an exceptionally user-friendly platform that both our team and Outside Counsel use daily. Their support team is consistently attentive, responsive, and eager to help. Although system transitions are often challenging, our implementation representative offered excellent guidance and support, making this the smoothest migration I’ve experienced. We continue to rely on Brightflag for prompt, personalized assistance whenever questions arise or issues need to be resolved.

It would be helpful to have additional filtering and bulk editing capabilities—such as the ability to apply a Purchase Order ID to all matters associated with a specific law firm or to update country codes in bulk, instead of entering them individually.

We have a complete handle on all legal spend and the value that we have gained through monitoring reports and detecting and acting on trends that the system provides, has been extremely helpful. There was also a misunderstanding between our team and Sales that the integration team would be able to fully help us configure the Coupa integration and that our IT team would not be needed.

We really had no details about our spending because we didn't have an e-billing system. The reporting features will benefit us. I also like how easy the law firms are able submit invoices in the system.  Our prior ebilling application had poor customer service and I, as the administrator had to support all our law firms with submitting their invoices in the platform.

Reporting is too simple.  I need to be able to create more complicated reports.  I also need the reports to filter by user attributes.
Our budget process is complicated and the system could not accommodate this.  We had to do some workarounds to get by.

The matter management is a separate paid module, so you won't get it included with your e-billing solution unless you opt into it. We are now more than a year into using Brightflag, and it has completely changed the way our department is run. Not only do bills/payments flow seamlessly, but even more importantly we have a wealth of data at our fingertips. Data about the distribution of our cases, our financial spend on outside counsel and related vendors, and data on how quickly and effectively firms are settling cases. We are now past the point of simply aggregating data, and have already seen our approach in leveraging the data available pay dividends. This data is key in formulating our budget and selecting and evaluating outside counsel. Additionally, the customer success team is an invaluable partner and are always independently suggesting innovative ways to continue our mission of driving success in the company through our legal department.

No downsides - if there are ever kinks (and there rarely are) Brightflag support is unparalleled. They are easy to get a hold of, quick, thorough, and always a pleasure. There are some additional features I wish were available (like the ability to select many attributes from a dropdown), and the ability to pay portions of a bill while the rest are under dispute, but we are pleased with the updates made on an ongoing basis.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag enables our company to analyze details of all legal invoices on one platform. We can easily compare spend, which enables us to negotiate on pricing. Brightflag also automatically rejects our prohibited expenses, which it was difficult to keep track of pre-Brightflag.  Brightflag can be integrated with a company's AP, which we did to have invoices and invoice details exported to Concur, which is saving us significant time. We have found that we are saving more money than what we pay for the Brightflag platform. Brightflag also has excellent custormer support. Someone always gets back to us a quickly, and issues are resolved in a timely manner.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The only thing i iwish Brightflag had is a more robust system to run reports. It is good, but our firm wants to run more detialed reports than what Brightflag offers. As a solution, Brightflag helped us intergrate data with PowerBI.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prior to Brightflag, it was difficult to analyze legal invoice spend, and we knew we were missing cost savings.  Now we are able to implement cost savings in different ways because of Brightflag.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

- Easy to use
- Friendly interface
- Great help center for both clients and vendors
- Login period is pretty long which is convenient
- Shoutout to the support team: very responsive, attentive and followup on open ticket. great work there
- Reports builder is convenient and helpful, especially with the filters (I sure hope you'll add more of those)
- The new invoice page view is good, I like the tasks summary it's very helpful and not too busy to look at
- 'Reports' is a very good option, showcasing live helpful data
- The vendors team is very quick and adds new vendors to the system in no time
- I use BF everyday, the system runs smoothly

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

Small things with big impact on both time and efficiency: 
-  the dropdown menu in "switch a matter" within the invoice will show ALL the matters in the system and not just the ones relevant to the vendor + no indication which matter belongs to which vendor
- No 'select all' almost anywhere but the timekeepers
- No option to export specific pending timekeepers, even when ticking the boxes of the relevant ones, it will extract all the pending rates
- No option to export matters, only via the report builder, which seems a bit of a work around considering I can filter the matters already 
- Matters ref is different between client and vendors, so sometimes it's hard to communicate this way
- Kinda annoying but sometimes when entering text to a search line you need to click 'enter' and in other places you need to actually move the cursor to the search button and click
- Not being able to edit *anything* in the vendors' users area, only disabling. Generally speaking, I feel like there should be a better way to give client admins the option to resend an invitation to BF in cases where the vendor missed or can't find the original one. It's not clear enough today
- Many vendors that lack the experience with eBilling often struggle with understanding the auto-rejections. I feel like BF should find a new approach to it, maybe adding a short explanation along with the rejection
- Some forecasts won't work in the cost center

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Budget management, overall cost saving, controlling timekeepers rates increases
