**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

Some of the AI responses aren’t quite up to speed when I request specific information. That said, most AI tools are still being built out to accommodate user inquiries, so I understand there may be gaps for now.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brightflag has centralized our global legal spend and given us clear, actionable visibility across every region. With automated invoice controls, standardized requirements, and seamless review workflows, we’ve cut out unnecessary back-and-forth emailing and significantly improved billing compliance. Reporting that used to take hours of our time and manual effort is now instant, so we can deliver accurate KPIs and spend insights to leadership and business teams whenever they’re needed.

The platform has also strengthened our partnership with AP by supporting consistent, compliant invoices and smoother processing. With country-level insights, better budgeting, and meaningful cost savings, Brightflag has become a core system that supports our strategy, day-to-day operations, and long-term planning. Their ongoing collaboration and yearly enhancements continue to improve our efficiency and visibility.

  ### 2. Streamlined Invoice Approvals with Outstanding Support but AI needs improving

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

The tool does a great job at providing a single source of information for all matters and relating costs. It has also given us the ability to structure our invoice approval workflows and ensure senior members of our Legal and Compliance teams have sufficient visibility to control and report on costs.
We are now rolling Brightflag out for our global offices which is bringing the tool's ability to house conditional workflows, segregated matter access, and grouped user management to light nicely.

The tool has also given us the ability to store and track timekeeper rates which is something we were not able to do before and the upcoming developments to the timekeeper rates screen should bring much needed structure and improved information to the process allowing us to manage these rates even more effectively.

The support team is also one of the best I have encountered amongst the various softwares we use here at Glencore with the response time being second to none. I am also very appreciative of the customer success team and the time they take to listen and onboard our feedback, whether positive or negative, and the effort they have put into assisting me with demonstrating the tool's ROI to my superiors.

The level of detail we are able to report on via the reporting function gives us much needed insight into various costs aspects (e.g. rates comparison, project costs and where they originate etc.) and the scheduler also helps provide our senior team members with even further visibility into where we are incurring costs and why.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

There are some aspects of the tool that seem neglected. For example, if users leave comments on invoices, those comments are not visible anywhere nor are they notified to anyone unless other reviewers specifically open the comments tab on the invoice. The matter creation process has some flaws, for example, the allocations now no longer being a mandatory part of the creation process or the lack of being able to place approvals on matter creations with conditional workflows.

My biggest dislike is actually the AI review. There is now a lot that AI is able to do and for a tool that markets itself as being the best ebilling tool for AI, I find it lacks in some areas. For example, the AI does not always catch line-item discrepancies such as blocked billing or often flags communication between firm and client as internal communication. The ability to store and track whether agreed discounts lack and even with the VTDs, given the nature of the vendor profile, you cannot track VTDs for firms that have multiple vendor profiles as there is no ability to group these and aggregate the spend which is actually most of the large firms.
The tool should also be able to assist with the most basic admin review, such as invoice addresses, ensuring bank account information is included, and it would be helpful if we were able to store currencies paying entities can pay in within the tool so the tool can flag any instances where an entity has been billed in a currency it cannot pay in. The inability to also have redline comparisons between invoice drafts feels like an oversight, especially as the tool's biggest benefit is the invoice write-down aspect and not being to control or monitor whether the firms have actually made the changes is frustrating for our reviewers.

That brings me onto the next item which are the paying entities. It is not unusual to have multiple paying entities on a single matter, especially for clients that operate globally. It would therefore be helpful to have the ability to add multiple Matter Entities to the matter to help assist with this.

There are also some features of the tool that feel as if they have now been thought out fully. For example, the recent implementation of conditional allocations not being extended to the invoice review screen which can create more confusion that anything else on the client side, as well as the recent addition of having an order to the allocation fields, even for clients who use allocations that do not have any correlation with one another in practice. Setting these allocations on an entity level is also something that would assist given Accounting will only extend cost centres on an entity-by-entity basis.
Another example would be the inability to select whether an invoice is billed using hourly rates or on a fixed fee basis as part of the manual invoice upload process or the fact that currency conversions within the tool seem to cause issues with invoices uploaded by vendors that require their timekeeper rates to be converted to the invoice currency.

The tool would also benefit from having an integrated rate card collation functionality. We recently had to run this entire process manually outside of Brightflag, however, being able to run a rate review process within the tool would be most helpful not least because the contacts, the email notification system, and the rates are all already stored within the tool.

Finally, after having used the tool for a year, the cost savings via invoice write-downs were not as high as estimated. This of course comes down to very nuanced aspects that are difficult to control such as the ongoing matters themselves, the user engagement on the tool, and the agreements we have with firms outside of the tool. I do believe, however, that with improved AI functionality, we would see better user engagement which for me is clearest path forward to increasing the tool's ROI and providing higher cost savings. Many costs have of course also been avoided rather than saved thanks to Brightflag's functionalities and the awareness is raises amongst firms, but the cost savings number itself is of course always the number viewed as the most important by senior management.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The tool is certainly giving us the added visibility which helps manage both internal team members and firms themselves when it comes to budgeting and general cost control or rate negotiations.
As I mentioned previously, it has also given us more structure to invoice approvals and ensures that these approvals are tracked within a system rather than via emails which are often lost.

The communication with firms on invoicing has also been improved as part of this process and it has helped our General Counsel, amongst others, to negotiate better rates and put some pressure on firms to provide us with more attractive price offerings in general.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag is an easy-to-use, intuitive interface that even users without training were able to use and adapt to from prior system. There are very helpful features (seeing accruals) and field names on reports that make sense. The customer support is excellent -- helpful and responsive. A pleasure to deal with them.

The team was also fantastic about doing our transition within a short window, ensuring everything went smoothly with the legal and finance teams, and follow up was exactly what we requested and needed.

BrightFlag's customer support continues to be responsive and helpful. Brightflag also continues to add features that make the tool better.

I am also impressed that their customer support team works with us to get our vendors to be better in submitting needing information to manage our finances.

UPDATE: We have now used Brightflag for 2 years. We appreciate the continued support and analysis of our spend, suggestions for us to improve our law firm compliance, as well as the ease of use of the tool. I cannot stress enough the difference in the tool and support compared to our prior vendor -- night and day!

Sometimes the sort or report fields are not easy to see online and need to export to use/work with. Would be helpful if more fields had sort options and reports could be used more easily online. This is not a dislike as opposed to room for improvement.

Manage legal spend versus budget and reviewing bills (including those that come in via PDF) with the same easy interface. Also capturing montly legal spend accruals.

In addition to the continued savings and support with our outside counsel spend, the Brightflag team guided us smoothly through the implementation process. We were able to consolidate several platforms we had been using for matter management, e-billing, case updates, document management, and more into Brightflag. Having a single, easily accessible source of information has made it much easier for the Legal Department to share updates with outside counsel and across business units. Our Senior Customer Success Manager, Sharon Palchak, continues to suggest new ideas for getting even more out of Brightflag, and she is truly a joy to work with.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The only real downside, in my view, is that there isn’t enough time or resources to develop every suggested improvement all at once. That said, Brightflag does a fantastic job prioritizing new features so they deliver the most positive impact for customers.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having the ability to compare historical rates, as well as rates across all of our outside firms, has given us the data we need to push back on requested rate increases and better control them. Our legal team uses accruals and matter budgets to better understand and manage matter spend. More recently, we added Advanced Matter Management, and my GC now uses the dashboard daily to get valuable insight into current matters, spend, and workloads. Overall, we’ve seen year-over-year savings on outside counsel spend, along with better communication among multiple departments, outside counsel, and our Third-Party Administrators.

I really appreciate how Brightflag consolidates various tools into one platform, simplifying my workflow immensely. Instead of juggling e-billing, matter management, document storage, and a spreadsheet for case updates, I now have everything in one place. I can open it in seconds when a partner asks for updates. The historical rate data feature is a standout as it allows us to compare rates across outside firms quickly and back our negotiations with data, avoiding unnoticed increases. The accruals and budgets are useful for financial tracking each quarter. Implementation was smooth, and we've consistently saved on outside counsel spend. Communication has improved across departments and with outside counsel. Our Customer Success Manager, Sharon Palchak, is proactive, often suggesting new ways to leverage the platform rather than waiting for us to ask. This proactive approach keeps us progressing rather than stagnating. The setup was also very easy, with no major hiccups.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The only real frustration on my end is the simple reality that there is never enough time to develop every suggestion at once. The team has to choose what gets shipped first, and while they pick well, sometimes a feature I had hoped for ends up further down the line than I would like. Faster turnaround on invoice review automation and more flexible custom reporting would be my top picks, since both directly cut hours of manual work and would have the biggest day-to-day impact on legal ops teams like ours.

For an organization that has never used a legal spend management took Brightflag offers just the right level of ease of use, return on investment, support and training and cost of onboarding.

This is not a Brightflag fault, but many of your existing partners will easily transition to Brightflag's use, but some will require a lot of hand holding. But overall, it has been a good transition for us.

Just having all invoices go through the same platform, measured against the same guidelines, is a blessing. Faster turnaround time for all entities has been great too. That doesn't even touch the data that we are compiling for future evaluation and use.

Brightflag helps keep all invoices and related details incredibly organized and easy to track. From receiving invoices on the platform, to internal approval, to approving them in the platform and processing payment, the whole workflow feels seamless.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

I wish the platform would notify us when outside firms leave comments on invoices. I’d also like to receive rejection emails when the platform auto-rejects an invoice, with a clear explanation of which flag was triggered. A lot of the time, it feels like there’s room to improve notifications for the person processing and working invoices on the receiving end.

It’s nice to be able to track data in real time so we can review it as a company and monitor our spending, know how to manage that information, and be able to utilize dashboarding and

Brightflag is intuitive to use, and its AI chat assistant is a great resource when I need help. The analytics Brightflag provides are also very useful for staying on top of legal spend, and they help support Legal’s partnership with Finance.

Some straightforward edits still require reaching out to Brightflag to have them implemented. For example, updating vendor admins, changing recipients for scheduled reports, and editing workflows all seem to require Brightflag’s involvement. It would be great if Brightflag could move toward a system that gives customers more autonomy to make these kinds of changes on their own. Also, the search bar in the system doesn’t work very well and could definitely be improved.

Brightflag helps us streamline outside counsel billing. We can categorize matters and log timekeepers along with their rates and hours worked. **What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag is one of those legal tech tools that simply works well in day-to-day use. The UI is intuitive, clean and easy to understand, even for users who only interact with the system occasionally, for example to review and approve invoices. That matters a lot in a corporate legal environment because adoption depends heavily on whether business users and lawyers can use a tool without lengthy explanations.

For admins and Legal Operations users, Brightflag is also easy to configure and manage. Approval workflows, matter structures and other setup elements can be adjusted without the system feeling overly complex or technical. The platform also gives us a much better view of our legal spend, historic invoices, matter-level cost development and external counsel activity. This has made our spend data much more accessible and useful for reporting, analysis and decision-making.

The customer success and onboarding support have also been excellent. We have a very hands-on customer success manager, regular check-ins and practical support when improving the setup or onboarding additional teams and countries. That has been an important factor in making the tool successful beyond the initial implementation.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The main limitation for us is around language support in the AI invoice review. The AI analysis works well for English invoices, but additional languages come at extra cost. For an international organisation, this is not ideal. Given where AI translation and multilingual analysis are today, I would expect broader language support to be included more naturally in the product.

The “Ask Brightflag” AI feature is a useful direction, but in my view it is not yet at the same level as modern AI tools in terms of responsiveness, quality of output and overall user experience. It has potential, but this is still an area where the product can improve.

Pricing is also not low. However, the value is clear if the tool is used properly and rolled out with the right processes behind it.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brightflag helps us manage external legal spend in a much more structured and transparent way. It gives us one place for invoices, matters, approval workflows, billing guideline checks and spend data.

The biggest practical benefits are faster invoice approvals, less manual effort, better visibility of legal spend and a much stronger basis for reporting and analysis. The system flags potential billing guideline issues or irregularities, which makes invoice review more efficient and more consistent. It also gives us a reliable historic record of invoices and spend, which is very valuable for budgeting, matter reviews, law firm discussions and strategic legal operations work.

Overall, Brightflag has become an important part of how we professionalise legal spend management. It supports both the operational side of invoice handling and the strategic side of understanding and managing external counsel spend.

What I Like About Brightflag: After evaluating multiple e-billing solutions, we adopted Brightflag this year to modernize our outside counsel spend management, and it's exceeded expectations on several fronts.

AI-Powered Invoice Review: The automated invoice routing and approvals features have been transformative for our team.  For a lean legal operations team supporting a global, all-remote company, this time savings directly translates to more bandwidth for strategic work. The AI flags guideline violations and discount application issues immediately, which has tightened our spend controls considerably.

Implementation Speed: Brightflag's implementation was remarkably fast compared to other enterprise legal tech we've deployed. When they shared that we would be up and running within 1 month of signature, I was skeptical, but the Brightflag team delivered. Their team understood our cross-functional requirements and configured the system accordingly. We were up and running in weeks, not months.

Spend Visibility: The real-time dashboard gives us exactly we need to make data driven decisions: clean, accessible data on legal spend by matter, practice area, and cost center. This visibility has already improved our quarterly budget conversations and helped us identify optimization opportunities we simply couldn't see in our previous spreadsheet-based approach.

Customer Support: Their support team lives up to the hype. Response times are consistently under an hour, and our Customer Success Manager proactively reaches out with optimization suggestions tailored to our usage patterns. This is the level of partnership you need when rolling out new systems across a distributed organization.

I don't have much to say about my dislikes. I will say that our API integration with our payment processing platform took slightly longer than anticipated.

Brightflag has fundamentally shifted our legal operations from reactive administration to proactive strategic management. Our team spends less time on invoice processing and reporting, and more time on initiatives that directly support our company's growth.

There’s a noticeable lag between when invoices are marked as approved in the log and when they actually disappear from it.

Love the flagging feature based on our billing policies and procedures and how easy it is to review and approve invoices. The system is pretty user friendly and easy to navigate. I also like that it is now connected to our matter management system Xakia.

Brightflag is pretty costly and I wish there was a better way to dispute certain items on the invoice without having to decline the entire invoice. Sometimes it doesn't seem worth it to decline an invoice for a small nominal $ amount.

When considering total cost of implementation and ownership, as well as functionality and performance, I believe it is by far the best Ebilling system available. I have used and implemented nearly every legal technology in the ELM space, so I am familiar with both the strengths and weaknesses of these platforms. Brightflag, which was built on AI from the beginning, is exceptionally easy to implement and use. In contrast, other platforms often require months or even years to implement and can cost up to a hundred times more. The combination of an excellent tool and outstanding service from the Brightflag team continues to make it an easy choice for our global Ebilling system.

From the moment of implementation to our daily use, we have had great support with the implementation team, training, CSM and customer support. Everyone works with you to obtain the results you want to obtain and/or fix a hiccup and learn how to use the system. We were no longer tracking accruals and expenses manually and being able to control timekeeper rates, budgets, reporting, forecasting spend, communication with regards to expectations for year and being able to institute that decision. We have a special function required for certain vendors and Brightflag worked with us to be able to upload different invoices and track a different accrual. The Brightflag team is always working to help us obtain the results that are required. Our CSM is always available and communicates with us frequently to make sure everything is ok, and our monthly meetings help us keep Brightflag clean and gives insights of any patterns that we might want to address.  As the administrator I use Brigthflag daily, and with my daily usage, I can easily move through the system.

What I absolutely love about Brightflag is the time it saves. The AI-driven invoice review drastically cuts down on manual work and reduces errors, which is a huge win. **What do you like best about Brightflag?**

The implementation process was very smooth and easy; the Brightflag team guided us through every step and did most of the heavy lifting for us. Now it's our 3rd year using it. Their support team and our Customer Success Manager are always very helpful and supportive, doesn't matter how big or small the issue at hand is.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

That's on us and our internal processes, but being able to block submitting invoices to the wrong entities by Vendors and/or a bigger warning message to the Counsels reviewing invoices when the Entity on the invoice and in the matter don't match would be amazing.  Again, it's more on us to educate and train, but it would be a cool feature.

Otherwise, a superb tool for matter and invoice management.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag continues to roll out new features aimed at improving the user experience. One standout is the “Ask Brightflag AI” tool, which has proven incredibly valuable when I need to quickly gather and analyze data.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

When it comes to accruals, it would be incredibly helpful to have more control over vendor communications. Specifically, the ability to select which vendors receive automated accrual reminders—and ideally, send those reminders directly from within the platform—would streamline the process and reduce manual follow-up.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Brightflag is solving several key problems for Sprinklr. By automating legal invoice processing and matter management, it reduces administrative burden and minimizes errors. This efficiency frees up our legal team to focus on more strategic tasks. Additionally, Brightflag’s analytics provide valuable insights into legal spending, helping us make more informed decisions and better manage our budget. Overall, Brightflag enhances our operational efficiency and supports smarter financial management.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

Brightflag has become an integral part of our day to day lives within our legal function. We have a complete handle on all legal spend and the value that we have gained through monitoring reports and detecting and acting on trends that the system provides, has been extremely helpful. We recently conducted a full review of our legal network of firms and we used three years worth of Brightflag data to shape our Request For Information process. The insights that we gained from the Brightflag platform gave us the leverage to get the best possible return from our Law firms and we now have a streamlined and highly competitive Panel of firms to choose from The collaboration between our two companies has also been a major factor in our success. Our discussions have always been very open and we always seem to resolve any issues quickly. Brightflag is a very valuable platform for our business and we rely on it daily to control both our spend and our Vendors behaiours.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The improvements made to the system over the last two years have taken away any minor issues that i would have had. It's an extremely easy system to navigate.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allows us to have a full picture of our legal spend and it also allows us to make decisions about our Vendors based on data and reporting. All details pertaining to a matter can be stored in the one place and most importantly, it allows us to leverage the data against the Vendors that we use, to allow us to ge the most competitive rates in the market.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

The UI is easy to learn and the AI is great at catching flags.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

We have the SFTP integration, but the timeline to get the reports from Brightflag to the SFTP is several months, when the only one-sheet we were provided from Sales says it would not take that long. There was also a misunderstanding between our team and Sales that the integration team would be able to fully help us configure the Coupa integration and that our IT team would not be needed.

**What problems is Brightflag solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We really had no details about our spending because we didn't have an e-billing system. The reporting features will benefit us. Also the AI that catches flags, when previously it was up to the attorneys to review invoices for flags. We also now are tracking timekeeper rates when we weren't fully tracking them before.

**What do you like best about Brightflag?**

The best thing about Brightflag is the outstanding customer support, the ease of use, and the number of great features. The fast implementation that allows the ease to quickly realize the value of the program. The ease of the integration is also flawless and use it frequently to complete day  to day task.

**What do you dislike about Brightflag?**

The thing I dislike about Brightflag is the limited customization and its complex setup which is very difficult and challenging.

The problems it solves is the time saving which is automated and cost control which helps us cut cost and improve accuracy which helps.
