What do you like best about Apple Remote Desktop?

I really enjoy the Scanner (lists that automatically refresh it's client database to provide up to date information) as well as the drag and drop support to share files between host and client, which is usually not possible via the plain VNC protocol. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apple Remote Desktop?

That Apple kind of nectagled the development and the last update is almost one and a half year ago. It was such a great tool! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

If you are in the mac side of the world, you will love using remote desktop. I've been using it for a pretty long time now and its been the easiest of network tools i've used. A simple drag drop of files to the remote host is a convenience that cannot be expressed in words when you are a developer and you have multiple machines to test something and do not like to physically switch to the actual machine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apple Remote Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?

Connect to servers, remote machines, other macs at office to do specific tasks.

What do you like best about Apple Remote Desktop?

I like that i can connect and manage my connections. It displays everything in detail, everything from Tasks to History.

With its side availability tools, i can monitor my active task and run reports.

Collect data and update when i need it.

I have used this for personal and business, and i can say its always reliable. I like to use the install feature to get programs going where i need them to install. Transferring data is easy.

Some of the basic feature like copy, install and search is nice to have but what i like is the UNIX command.

The programmer, thats a big plus for me ! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apple Remote Desktop?

I would like to see more features. nothing overpowering but something that might justify the price.

only once, i encountered where i was using a heavy program like VS and DW. It tends to conflict with my screen and i had to close my session. I can't blame it was Apple Remote Desktop but the issue never happened again. Like i said, no real issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

Great for business and home use. I find that after using it for business i ended up getting it for home use.

Easy to use and stable for its version. Many features that are available. I don't even use some of them but i like that its there and i know that there always improving and upgrading its software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apple Remote Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?

No issues just restart the program and 99% of the time issue is resolved. No bugs that i have encountered. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Apple Remote Desktop?

We use many Macs on our network and need a way to manage them all, which is why we purchased Remote Desktop. We use it primarily for two things, which are my favorite features. First, the automater is excellent and saves us a lot of time. It allows us to automate administrative tasks on the network so we don't have to manually do them each time saving us many hours of labor. I also love the spotlight search which lets you search across all the computers on the network. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apple Remote Desktop?

Sometimes there is lag time to access computers on the network. This depends on internet speed, of course, but even with fast internet, it can still be laggy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

Use automation to automate processes, it will save you a significant amount of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apple Remote Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have automated many processes on our network, and the ease of access to each computer on the network has saved us significant time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Using Apple short keys in a Windows environment in general, no fault of the software. I installed a Windows USB keyboard at home to resolve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

If you have remote teams on Mac (more common now than 5-10 years ago) this is a good option that is free on Apple, for them to access your Windows native applications or remote workstations while away from the office. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Apple Remote Desktop?

We use remote desktop to run updates on the hundreds of Apple computers we use district wide. Not only that, but we use it to access our server remotely in our offices and manage all of our technology. In the computer lab, it is a great resource to view what students are doing and to lock their computers so they can focus on the demonstration at hand. We would be at a huge loss without Remote Desktop. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apple Remote Desktop?

After updating OS we sometimes run into issues connecting and need to manually make adjustments before we can take full advantage of the software. Also, with updates, many of our scripts need to be changed, which is time consuming and sometimes prevents us from updating to the latest and greatest. All of these, still, would not prevent us from purchasing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

Create or find scripts online to make updates, logging on, and changing settings easier. Our scripts save us time and make our days much more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apple Remote Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are able to run maintenance and monitor activity using Remote Desktop. This helps our Computer Lab instructors immensely and allows our service techs to work more remotely to troubleshoot and help our staff. Staff would be traveling across town often to relieve issues that we are not able to do from our office. Remote desktop also provides us a way to see what users are doing and also is beneficial as a scanner to see what is on our network. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Apple Remote Desktop?

Apple Remote Desktop is hands down the best way to manage, audit and control an OS X environment. New OS X devices just 'appear' when they are connected to the network and can be instantly added to to the inventory. From there on out it is simplicity personified, new software can be pushed, updates applied and assistance provided to the user pretty much at the click of a mouse. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apple Remote Desktop?

It would be great if Apple would extend Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to be cross platform so that Windows machines could also be managed by this fantastic product. Microsoft Remote desktop lacks so much of the functionality that ARD has, without the addition of other software, that integration would be phenomenal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

If you have OS X deployed in your environment ARD is the go to administration tool Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apple Remote Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?

Ensuring compliance, updates are installed, new software is available and that users problems are fixed in a timely manner Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Apple Remote Desktop?

I maintain a lab of about fifteen post production suites. Being able to remote into them and fix technical issues makes my job easier and has increased our productivity by a substantial margin. It's a great tool to have in my pocket whenever there is an emergency and I am offsite. Being able to fix these problems without having to come into the office during those times decreases a lot of my stress. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Apple Remote Desktop?

VPN could use some work. Occasionally there are issues with IP addresses, but they often stem from our own Network. I wish the reason why a connection wasn't happening between ARD and a stalled IP address was stated more clearly in the diagnostics, as it would help us track down the issue more quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Apple Remote Desktop:

This is a great product. Simple to use. It will improve your productivity more than you probably realize. It will increase your ability to work more diligently on longer-term problems by eliminating a lot of the short-term nagging issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Apple Remote Desktop solving and how is that benefiting you?

Our organization uses this to update and maintain a lab of post production suites. Being able to do this remotely have greatly added to the quality of service we are able to offer our users. There are alternatives, but not work quite so well for our predominately Apple-based workgroup environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
