As a customer support agent, I use Adyen almost every day. One of my tasks is to check the refund and payment status of customers. I did not use the entire function as my role is set to be limited. I find that even in a limited access role, I still can find most of the information needed to assist with customers' inquiries. I like the simplicity of the interface which is easy to use and navigate. I also like the search results display if I am looking for certain transactions especially when a user reported fraudulent payment occurred from their card but they don't have much information. I can just search the payment using the last four-digit number of the card, their name, and the amount of transaction as well as use their User ID in our database. If you activate pre-authorisation for your transaction, Adyen will show the fee of pre-authorisation at the search list instead of showing the final amount charged which kind of hassle to open up each transaction to find out more information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

By implementing Adyen we can successfully provide local payment methods for our clients eshops all across the globe. Before Adyen we only had limited payment methods in our newly opened markets, but with Adyen, we can start with local payments which are important while eCommerce eshop enters a new country. It increases conversion rate, and trustworthiness which is extremely important! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The whole implementing process took us literally weeks. Since we had to implement it into our "SaaS" eshop platform for more clients/eshops which is not a normal process, it took a long time implementing from our dev team and also paperwork was extremely painful. We have exchanged almost 80 mails before it was done, but it was worth it in the end Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is not a lot to like. They should learn from the likes of Stripe. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
1) The interface is the worst there could ever be. For every single step that you might need to do on any other payment gateway, Adyen makes it very difficult overall.
2) Most of the times when we've spoken to their support team, someone who has no answers or any idea about the query is on the other end. This makes life very difficult and can be a pain (because money is involved and these matters require speed and accuracy)
3) They do not have a lot of basic features - a proper reporting tool is missing and they say that the feature is coming. Some secure payment features are also missing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Literally nothing is sound about this company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
1) UI / Interface is the worst
2) Reporting / reconciliation is bad too
3) Lots of hidden fees and really high fees overall
4) Lack of support
5) Underwriting with Adyen is the worst experience to get yourself into, it might take a few months. They're really ineffective and high buroucracy.
6) They can shut down your account anytime without notice because their underwriting team changed their mind. It's really important to note that we didn't participate in any chargeback/fraud programs with MC/Visa.
7) Migrating your CC tokens from them would take months and they won't rush on this matter at all Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can act as a payment provider for your business Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
- UI is not very good
- Have found mistakes in important reports
- In general difficult to find good reports which give your transparency in your transactions, customers, patterns, issues etc.
- Despite referring several million of USD business through Adyen you are still not being given an Account Manager you can speak to
- Support is all handled through email so not possible to have a call with support to get things solved fast
- Slow response time in support
- They made fundamental changes to our account settings without asking for our consent and without even informing us about these changes. After incidental finding out that many transactions started to get rejected due to changes they made to our account we have now a week after not succeed in getting this resolved by them and responses take a long time - meanwhile, we are losing business and money from several of our customers due to this. - It's great that Adyen has lots of local payment methods globally
- The company feels modern to work with, nice account managers and such
- Decent built-in fraud protection Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have experience working with Adyen for over five years with three different companies. Unfortunatly I have to say, the Adyen platform is unnecessarily complicated and frustrating to use. As a senior technology manager, I want hassle-free platforms that are easy to use, and does not give me, my employees or colleagues any unnecessary headaches. Adyen, although a modern company, is not a hassle-free platform:
- For certain kinds of changes, you need to make changes in your test environment and then push them to your live environment. But if you have asked for and received credentials to the live platform from a teammate, you soon realise (when your teammate has switched context/is busy with something else) it's not enough to take actions the you need. You need to login to the test environment as well, which has separate auth credentials...
- Username+Password is not enough to loginm, you need to remember your account name as well, which sometimes will be your companys legal name, sometimes not.
- Integrating credit card payments is a convoluted bug-prone mess compared to other developer-friendly platforms like Stripe or Klarna.
- If you need to create API credentials for different use cases, the interface is confusing and poorly documented. There are different kinds of credentials, and it's unclear what you will need for your use case, and you can't name them. Instead the name of the credentials is auto-generated in a useless format for understanding for who or what use case you created the credentials.
- If you need to user their balance platform API, you have to log in to a separate platform to create those auth credentials, and for some reason my admin login credentials are not working in that platform. Now I have to contact the Adyen support, which is something I hate doing, so instead in pure frustration I go here and write this review, to warn others.
I would only recommend Adyen if you really need localised payment mehods. If you just want credit cards payments, I would look somewhere else. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Adyen displays all the information needed in order for you to manage your customers' transactions easily and without errors. The best thing about Adyen is how easy it is to process refunds directly to customers' credit cards, PayPal accounts, etc. through the interface. You are also able to delete payment info with one click of a button if needed. Adyen gives a great overview of the transaction and all the relevant information. You can also print receipts of purchase and of refunds when necessary conveniently as PDF files. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
You don't immediately get an overview of multiple transactions from the same user or credit card - which in some instances would be helpful to solve support cases. The software logs you out automatically after 15 minutes due to security reasons - this can be annoying if your work is done over a multitude of platforms which causes you to be away from Adyen for longer than the time frame. However, this might be customizable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
