What do you like best about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

We have been using ActiveBatch for the past six years, and ActiveBatch has provided the functionality and reliability that we required in a workflow and schedule system.

Some of the best features are the advance scheduling, business calendar, the ability to execute Powershell scripts on multiple agents across our networks, managing of files, SQL process, multiple event options to trigger the job.

Their support team has always been quick to respond always helped us resolve problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

What we found previously is when we upgrade to a new version or service pack some of our existing jobs breaks because of functionality changes or behaviour change in the system. With the updates in mind, we now do proper full job testing before upgrading the production instance the only problem now is that it takes time to do full testing because we have over 1000 jobs in ActiveBatch.

The new version 12 console is a lot slower and does crash more often than version 11.

Some of the internal workflow steps can be confusing and may lack some functionality or advance options something like a file or conditional flows but once of the great features in AB is to run Powershell scripts and we have changed the jobs to Powershell and there is no limit in what Powershell cant do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ActiveBatch Workload Automation solving and how is that benefiting you?

One of the biggest problems we had was that multiple systems that run their own schedules. With ActiveBatch we centralise the jobs and have one interface to view jobs and schedules.

Powershell automation is easy in ActiveBatch Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

You can automate process flows across systems using output from process on one system to feed inputs to another process on a separate system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

There's a lot of information and how-tos available on the web. Everything is in a clunky PDF or behind their not very user-friendly website. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ActiveBatch Workload Automation:

If you're looking for an all-in-one automation and scheduling software, ActiveBatch is best in class. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ActiveBatch Workload Automation solving and how is that benefiting you?

First: We were able to automate jobs across multiple systems (Windows, Unix, Databases, etc...) in one location with real time monitoring and reporting. Being able to see all scheduled jobs in one place is a huge win.

Second: Reliability, Activebatch always ran, and if it wasn't it always alerted us to the problem. This is not always the case with tools like Cron or Windows Scheduler.

Third: The ability to string jobs together into process flows. Example: A database query runs on a SQL Server. The active batch job loops over that result set and passes it to a shell script on a completely separate unix server. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

ActiveBatch is easy to use and has tremendous flexibility and functionality. We have never had a significant issue with the tool in the 9+ years we've been using it, nor have we had a situation that required automation that ActiveBatch couldn't handle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

Although ActiveBatch is easy to use, the initial learning curve can be daunting simply because there are so many features and tools included. The available training is very helpful, but it can still be slightly intimidating to a new user, especially if the user is unfamiliar with automation in general. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ActiveBatch Workload Automation:

We have been using ActiveBatch for several years now and have never regretted our decision to use it for our automation needs. The support is as excellent as the tool itself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ActiveBatch Workload Automation solving and how is that benefiting you?

We have several processes that run overnight that have strict SLAs. With our prior automation tool we were struggling to meet these SLAs due to frequent unexplained errors and failures in the automation. Once we moved to ActiveBatch these issues went away and it has been smooth sailing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

Active Batch does more than just job scheduling. That has allowed us to phase out other applications and consolidate our management into a single application. The dashboard view is very helpful and we've setup daily reports as well when I can't get to the dashboard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

We didn't realize how valuable the tool would be when we first put it in place and didn't put enough thought into our disaster recovery posture. We are having to rework our setup to get things working properly for DR. I wish that would have been pushed as a consideration at the time of purchase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ActiveBatch Workload Automation:

Active Batch is a solid tool that provides us room to grow at our own pace. I anticipate we will be purchasing more licenses in the very near future. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ActiveBatch Workload Automation solving and how is that benefiting you?

Using the automation tools and notifications, we are able to address issues in near real time as opposed to reviewing SQL job status the following day. We have a number of jobs that are dependent on outside vendors and file availability. We are able to run jobs quicker as we've implemented retry and wait features rather than scheduling a SQL job for hours later to make sure the vendor drops their files in time. Activebatch can be a little pricy under certain circumstances.

Some of the very nice to have features for cloud automation and interfacing with special services can be add ons that need to be purchased.

The Webbased Console is an add-on purchase as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

The ease of use, reliability and support over the years have all been exceptional. I have always been able to do what I've needed to get work done. I've been a user of ActiveBatch since version 6, for over 10 years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveBatch Workload Automation?

There honestly isn't anything I dislike about ActiveBatch. It does exactly what I need it to, consistently and reliably. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering ActiveBatch Workload Automation:

If you need enterprise automation software, there are surely a few options. I have evaluated the major alternatives and have stuck with ActiveBatch for its overall ease-of-use, configurability and rich set of features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is ActiveBatch Workload Automation solving and how is that benefiting you?

Most of our automated tasks have been or are being migrated into ActiveBatch. The benefits are many: the ability to have customizable triggers, precedence constraints, a robust Jobs Library, the many views provided to see the big picture of our overall workload, etc.

Even so, I realize I am not using nearly all of the features that the software offers. I feel confident that as our organization grows and more demand is placed upon ActiveBatch, it will be there when we need it for whatever challenge arises. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
