I've used SketchUp since it's very beginning, but always thought that StetchUp's images were informative but clunky. V-Ray was a magical revelation. I now use it on every 3D modeling project nearly every day. Though technically quite sophisticated, I find that V-Ray has an intuitive interface that allows me easy implimentation and impressive results even as I'm on the steeper learning curve of the more complicated aspects of material selection, view positioning and nuanced lighting. I'm continuing to learn and the resulting renders only got better and better. As a visual addition to the SketchUp tool bar, V-Ray and its sub tasks are seamlessly integrated into my creation process, allowing me continuous feedback, first as low res tests and last as high res renders. When I've had technical issues, I found that Chaos has a very good trouble shooting team who gave me timely and relevant help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Computing Requirments: In order to achieve the quality renderings I need and value, V-Ray takes a lot of computing power and time. I replaced my Mac Book Pro with a Mac Studio and that has helped speed up quality renders. Chaos has an online service but I don't want to spend extra costs for something I can generate at home.
Animation: V-Ray only exports individual frames, which requires another software to compile and edit an animation. I'd like it to more directly exported animations that could then be enhanced with sound and commentary. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

In our 3D render studio we work with 3DS Max combined with Chaos Vray for rendering.
The ease of use is great.
We love the quick 5 minute previews Vray gives us, and the finals in the cloud with Chaos Cloud.
Renders that would take 10 hours to render locally are done in 30 minutes in the cloud, at very reasonable prices.
For us, materials are very important, and Vray manages to render the most intricate details. Also the lighting is key for us, and the Auto Exposure setting speeds up our workflow significantly. The VFB settings like Exposure, White Balance are great. The Lightmix, which renders an output for each light, is great for dramatic compositing. And the Cryptomatte output is also so helpful, a mask for each object in your scene. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
When we load a Corona model, it is still problematic to change the Corona materials to Vray materials.
But when there is a problem, the Customer Support is very quick and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Falta de interactividad inmediata en comparación con alternativas como Unreal o Lumion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Vray has create results - one of the best in the industry. The control of the elements in Vray (lighting, materials, views, backgrounds, etc.) make this incredibly flexible and result in high quality imagery once the skillsets have been mastered. The integration with other software like Enscape and the predefined models from Chaos Cosmos makes very easy to add a level of detail quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The knowledge based to develop the understanding of scene setup and adjustments for high quality, detailed images is not very intuitive and takes years to master. Over the past 5+ years, this has gotten better, but is not as simple and straightforward as other renderings platforms. I would also like to see more variability and flexibility in the types and looks of the image output. Finding a quick way to add more diagrammatic feel would help. The integration within the modelling software makes it part of the same program, not exporting and importing, making a change to the model integrates effortlessly. The rendering quality and custimisation of settings to achieve desired results makes it a leading rendering program. Installation of the software is very simple and the regular updates with new features shows the dedication to continually enhance the software. I use the software regularly proffessionally and as a lecturer of communication modules. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is a steep learning curve which takes trial and error to become profficient in the use. Whilst intial renders are easily achievable the complexities take time to master. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really appreciate how easy it is to start using V-Ray right away, even without having the necessary skills. It avoids leading users into the program's more complex aspects that could slow down results. Very intuitive and straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I dislike about V-Ray is the sharp contrast between its ease of use for creating basic renderings and the extreme complexity of its advanced settings. It's as if you go from riding a bicycle to piloting an airplane. Of course, much of this depends on me and not on the software itself, which was designed for professionals and not amateurs like me. The addition of the polygon render region is a much needed addition to the system. The region masks never worked properly and always left black rings around the selected object that didn't fit with the render. This speeds up my work quite dramatically and I'd been hoping they would add something like this for years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The colour collection and automated settings for selected bitmaps is a bit convoluted and sometimes glitchy and settings get out of wack. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
V-Ray stands out for its exceptional rendering quality and flexibility. Its physically accurate lighting and shading capabilities deliver photorealistic results, making it a favorite for architects, designers, and VFX professionals. Seamlessly integrating with popular 3D modeling software like 3ds Max, SketchUp, and Blender enhances workflow efficiency. Additionally, V-Ray’s extensive library of materials and robust GPU and CPU rendering options allow for fast and customizable outputs, even for complex projects. While V-Ray is a powerful tool, its steep learning curve can be challenging for beginners. Understanding its advanced settings and optimizing render times require significant practice and experience. Additionally, the cost of V-Ray can be prohibitive for smaller Colleges or freelance artists. Some users might also find the licensing process and updates slightly cumbersome compared to more streamlined competitors Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

V-Ray delivers incredibly realistic results with detailed settings that allow you to customize every aspect of rendering, from lighting to materials Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The initial learning curve can be steep for new users, especially if they are unfamiliar with advanced rendering concepts. Also, the licensing costs can be high for independent users or students Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

With Vray I have the ability to leverage different hardware and different modes for projects that have different needs. Vray allows me to customize my approach and always get the result that I want and need.
The realism is uncanny and in general very easy to utilize! I use it on every rendering project!
I am also able to utilize it with every 3d software package that I have implemented into my workflow.
The ease of implementation is seamless, the customer support is top notch.
Vray is my preferred Rendering software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
