SumTotal Pros and Cons

I like that I can self-service and complete training modules on my own schedule. The classes are easy to follow and allow me to save and come back later. There is a wide variety of topics that can be useful to employees in all levels of an organization. The classes and modules let you know the time commitment and many allow you to save and come back at a later time. You can also retest if you find you did not fully grasp the content. There were a few times that the program does not recognize my time spent on a module and I had to start over. The annual review process can be a bit painstaking. Adding activities are a confusing action for me. There were times that the activities did not upload into the selected goal and thereby reporting ans incomplete. My HR department instructed me to submit the goals as incomplete and they would correct on their end. This part of performance management was the least user-friendly. Sumtotal is a well established corporate talent management which is well recognized by many organizations around the globe. The platform provides training and learning management solutions are well by providing corporates with training solutions for their employees on organization specific topics like human resource policies, soft skills tutorials , technological skills, etc. The platform provides access via both web interface and mobile applications as well, It allows integration with third party softwares as well like Webex to host online trainings and then manage all other details in Sum Total platform itself. Training solutions on advanced skills are not available easily. The course content are not updated frequently due to which some of the courses feel outdated.

The desktop training application sometimes is not able to sync and download the course properly and surely the interface can be made better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Customer service of SumTotal Talent Management platform is awesome. There are some usage issues mainly due to lack of intuitive UI but that has been under overhaul currently, our concerns were always quickly heeded by their support team mainly based out of India location. The hanging of the Ui when navigating from one feature to another, not intuitive enough when pop-ups are supposed to come up, the tab always opens up in a new window, and keeps on loading - it is not the network but something on the Sum total side which wasn't able to render the content. That led us to figure out other ways to make our content render on the pages. Also takes a lot of maintenance work to keep our content up to date. Overall impacts productivity. This LMS software had a wide swath of features. We use it to upload our courses that we create in house and deploy them to thousands of people. We are also recently able to provide this content on a mobile platform using the mobile app provided by SumTotal on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We have had a few issues here and there that are extremely specific to the tasks that we have. The biggest issue so far being that the mobile apps, only on iPhone and Windows Phone currently (but not android), have an issue regarding the "Done" button. If the learner happens to click that button it will actually remove all progress from what they have done in the course. We have asked SumTotal to consult their mobile developers to see if this is something they can address. There is also a small bit of confusion that we have regarding re-uploading courses to the LMS after changes have been made. The questions that are prompted from the system are a bit ambiguous.
