Smile was easy to set up, integration into shopify themes is straightforward, the app is easy to navigate, nicely customisable and the support from the smile team is excellent. The one fault I have with it is that customers have to activate their account on our website before they can use their points. Ideally we would like to set them up on shopify POS in store in one step. Cole helped me navigate this issue so that now customers can activate their accounts more easily through a counter QR code. I would also love it if points were applied to checkout automatically. I think this is available with an upgrade but we're already paying so much for add on apps I'm not willing to do this yet. We have been using Smile for a few years now. I like that the platform is very straightforward and easy to navigate on the backend for us. We can easily look up customer points and see our analytics. I think it's also very straightforward for customers too. I like how when you open the review widget it very clearly explains to the customer how to use it. I think Smile is a bit expensive. For many years we were able to be on the free plan which was very nice, but now I think it's a little overpriced. Smile.io is a great program to introduce rewards in exchange for customer touches, which keeps your brand relevant and in contact with your base. In exchange for minimal and basic rewards, we receive customer engagement, retention, and sales that we otherwise wouldn't.
The app was easy to integrate into our BigCommerce platform and we plan to continue to use the app as we migrate to Shopify this year. It was also simple to set up the app, and get to know the features with a free trial prior to committing to a monthly plan.
We have not had to use customer support, but I do enjoy that I get an email every month when my account is going to be charged, there is never a surprise in the billing.
For us, the app has been a "set it and forget it" type of situation, our customers use the app frequently but we do not have to go into it often. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While we enjoy the rewards aspect of the app, we were disappointed with the referrals portion. Perhaps it was our customer base, but we do not see it being engaged with very often.
A few other obstacles we had to overcome was putting customers into groups so that they would be excluded from the rewards program (wholesale accounts).
And the other is the overall front end UX, we do find that our customers are often confused about the pop-up in corner, I do wish there was an option to embed the app into a page aswell, so we can send a direct link. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I've been using Smile.io for my Shopify store, Lavish Bath Creations, and it has been a great addition to my website. It has been easy to set up and and use. My customers really like being able to earn points for their purchases.
I really like that the dashboard allows me to track customer engagement and rewards easily and by clicking a specific customer you can see their personal activity within the app. Plus, the ability to customize the look of the rewards program is appreciated because it allows you to make it a perfect fit for your branding.

I honestly don’t have many complaints because Smile.io has been a really valuable tool overall, but there are a couple of features I’d love to see become more accessible. Having features like these available at a more affordable level would make it even better for smaller businesses like mine that are still growing.

One area for improvement would be the email customisation options. Currently, the emails feel quite templated, and while there’s an option to integrate with Klaviyo for more advanced customisation, it requires a lot of manual effort. I wish there was a way to award points in exchange for signing up for our newsletter—a different activity than creating an account. It's not a big deal, but our Shopify theme included a nice CTA for newsletter sign up that we can't really take full advantage of because it's too confusing to ask people to opt into the newsletter AND make an account. The pricing jump between tiers, it goes from $50 a month to $200 a month, when you get a bit bigger in terms of orders. Also, for me so far I haven't been able to really delve into getting the most out of customers spending their points. I don't know enough in how to ensure anyone who lands on the website can sign up and they get all these great benefits, and also even how they can access their account and see what points they have. Smile.io is one of the first apps I integrated into my website hosted by BigCommerce and I've loved using it the last few years. The ease of integration made it one of the first apps I used when I built my website. It helps with customer engagement and retention since they are able to sign up, earn, and use their accumulated points so easily. My products are on the high end of cost and not a product that is used often meaning customers may not purchase from me more often than once a year even! But with Smile.io, I have noticed a lot of return customers which is very important to me in my business and industry!
