**What do you like best about Smile.io?**

I recently had to speak with Smile.io's support team regarding an issue wherein we were being overcharged for orders made on our site, when in fact they were our TikTok Shop orders, which due to our logistics set up, are sent to our packing station through Shopify. They [support] promptly sorted the issue and rectified the discrepancy. However, this "fix" did not last and by the following month they [Smile] were requesting an upgrade to our plan because we had exceeded the plan's order limit, although our store's orders were well within the limit. 

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The issues still outstanding regarding our orders not being processed properly, has only increased my dissatisfaction in Smile.io.

**What problems is Smile.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customer retention is a top-priority to get customers continually coming back to your brand and spending on your site month after month. One way to ensure this is maxxed out if by introducing a loyalty program that rewards customers with real value - and Smile has given us the power to do this with a "points for pounds" custom program. This means, customers continually build points by shopping with us, ensuring the keep saving money whenever they re-order on our site.

**What do you like best about Smile.io?**

The integration with Shopify is seamless and clean. It doesn’t feel clunky, and everything shows up right on the customer account page. After upgrading, our customers can now see their points directly on the website, which has made the experience feel much more professional and transparent. It’s easy for customers to understand and manage.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The pricing can be high for a small business, especially as you upgrade for more features. I also wish bonus campaigns were more flexible. Currently, bonus campaigns multiply regular points during a set time period, but you can’t easily assign a flat bonus (for example, +50 points for purchasing a specific product). To do that, you have to use Shopify Flow, which adds complexity. It would be much easier if Smile allowed simple product-based bonus point rules directly inside the platform.

Smile solves the challenge of managing a loyalty program without adding manual work to our team. Customers can track their own points, redeem rewards, and manage their accounts independently, which reduces customer service questions and saves us time. It helps increase repeat purchases while giving customers a clear incentive to stay engaged with our brand.

There isn’t much we dislike. It would be nice to have a little more flexibility in customizing rewards, but overall the system works very well for our business.

Smile.io helps us reward repeat customers and encourage them to come back more often. Before using Smile, we didn’t have an easy way to track and manage customer rewards. Now everything is automatic and easy for customers to understand.

It benefits us by increasing repeat visits and helping build long-term customer relationships. Customers enjoy earning points and it gives them an extra reason to shop with us instead of going somewhere else. It also saves our team time since we don’t have to track rewards manually.

Very intuitive, great features, integration with Klaviyo is simple and styling to suit brand is easy. The pricing is extremely good value and the support is first class. We've had no issues at all with the performance of the app and we are rolling it out to our other stores over the next few months.

I haven't found any downside yet everything works perfectly so far.

As a health and beauty manufacturer / supplier its important to us that our cusomters feel part of a community, we aren't just selling products but offering knowledge, tips, tricks and advice for specific skin issues. We’ve had a great experience using Smile.io to manage the rewards points program for our website, iderma.com. The platform is incredibly easy for our team to manage on the backend, and just as important, it’s simple and intuitive for our customers to use and understand.

No real downsides to date, we've used Smile for the last 4 years with no real issues.

The service is easy to set up and use, and the customer service team has been very helpful. Integrating it with my BigCommerce website platform was super simple, and the dashboard is straightforward and easy to navigate. I was able to set up my rewards program within minutes, and I’ve been extremely happy not only with the return on investment, but also with the app’s performance on my website.

I would love it if they could add a way to have different rewards for different customer groups. For example, wholesale receives a different reward than retail customers.

It is easy to integrate with your Shopify store and to set-up. 
It offers a free plan which is great for small businesses wanting to increase loyalty.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

They did not have a guest referral option when I started using Smile, so I had to use another app to do this. I think this may have changed though, so I will revisit smile to check this.

**What problems is Smile.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Smile helps with customer loyalty and we have a number of customers that regularly use their points to get discounts of their orders. I am on the free plan, so some of the features are not open to me, such as nudges, but as I grow, I will move onto the paid plan and be able to use these features.

I would like to run special promotions for longer that 7 days. Right now we can only run extra point promotions for a max of 7 days.

I use Smile.io for my small store, and it makes customers enjoy spending at my store, allowing them to redeem it for cool stuff. I probably like the fact that they are adding more features for free members, which is very nice for a small business like mine. I also appreciate being able to change customers' balances. Trying Smile.io for the first time, I automatically loved it! The initial setup was very simple, which is great for beginners.

Maybe the lack of on-site content for free users. It's harder to use and less convenient.

It’s easy to use, and the integration with Shopify makes everything run smoothly. When it comes to analytics, it’s the best tool I’ve used so far, and the reports library is especially useful. The pre-built functionalities are reliable and straightforward to implement, which saves a lot of effort. Overall, the design feels very user-friendly for customers. Finally, the customer support is super efficient an quick.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

Although the client-facing side of the programme is very well designed, it offers very little room for customization, especially in the panel and the customer hub.

**What problems is Smile.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We want to reward customers for their loyalty in a simple and meaningful way. With Smile, this can be achieved easily, you don't need technical knowledge to launch and manage it. After one month of migration we've seen the % of revenue driven by the loyalty programme grow 89% year on year.

I do wish we could use the 'Bonus Campaigns' functionality for both tiers of our rewards program. I just have to manually adjust points when we do it, so there is an easy work around.

I find that Smile.io is a very comprehensive tool for managing our loyalty program. The seamless integration with Shopify and Klaviyo has been a standout feature, allowing us to increase purchase recurrence and improve customer retention and lifetime value (LTV). Customers quickly understand how the program works, and the dashboard is very intuitive for our team. I also appreciate the flexibility it offers us to create a scalable program. Thanks to the native integrations with Shopify and Klaviyo, we can automate professional communications and workflows, with good designs and without friction, along with the good advice from the Smile.io team to set them up. It is remarkable how quickly the Harvard team was able to set up the program, and I would definitely recommend Smile.io to colleagues.

For a long time, the Smile.io dashboard was not very intuitive for accessing and visualizing metrics, which made it difficult to analyze the performance of the loyalty program. Additionally, there is room for improvement in the referral program due to restrictions of Shopify plans. It would also be beneficial to expand the available actions for customers to earn points.

I use Smile.io to manage our loyalty program, integrating seamlessly with Shopify and Klaviyo, which increases purchase recurrence. The dashboard is intuitive for the team, and Smile.io facilitates the automation of communications and improvements in retention and LTV.

The app is very easy to set up and manage, even without heavy technical input. The loyalty and rewards feature are clear for customers and genuinely help encourage repeat purchases (and having 2-in-1 for the price of one app was the deciding factor for us to use Smile). Support has also been very responsive, helpful and easy to deal with whenever questions or issues have come up.

**What do you dislike about Smile.io?**

The biggest drawback is billing accuracy when the system cannot properly  distinguish between shoplift order sources, which has led to overcharging (several hundred dollars in one instance). There is also limited flexibility when it comes to excluding or tracking certain order types. Reporting around billing ad usage could be clearer so it easier to understand exactly how charges are being calculated.

Smile.io solves the challenge of building and managing a customer loyalty and rewards programme without needing custom development or multiple third-party tools. Setup was super straightforward — it integrated with my Shopify store in a few minutes and I was able to launch a loyalty program without needing a developer. Another big plus for me is the integration with Shopify POS, which makes it perfect if you also sell in a physical store.

Once you've got your head around how the app works, It's incredibly easy to set up customer incentives and track their spend to points earnings.

We don't feel that for the cost of the higher packages, we get much in return when compared to services we've used in the past. We inherited the system from the previous owner so have kept it going because of how many customers we have using it, after discussing our concerns we've dropped down our subscription that better suits our budget yet still has the excellent customer service and as we use it more we may see value in upgrading.

Smile is an A+ for functionality and customer service. Always there to help and most importantly, the app seamlessly integrates into your site - with both design and functionality - which is extremely important when you want to match the aesthetic of your brand.

There are a few more customizations I would like to see (for example points awarded to X number of orders as opposed to amount in order value - so you can properly award customers for ordering often. I would like to see this in tiers, as well. Customer orders 10 times and they get to a special tier, as an example.) There are also some extra ways to earn that would be cool to add - such as commenting/posting on instagram about the store.

We've been using smile.io for a few years now, and I really like how easy it is to plug in the app to my online store and POS for physical in-store purchases. Our return customers love earning and using their cash coupons towards future purchases, and I like how they can do that online with a coupon code and at an in-person event via our POS checkout. It's rewarding on both ends!

We wanted a stable, easy-to-use loyalty system with good end-user integration with Shopify. Some other platforms can get bloated and confusing for customers. Smile.io does most of what we need, and it's a decent price point. The redemption of points for a discount during checkout is really helpful.

We'd like to see more rules for earning points and for the use of order tags to exclude certain orders (e.g resend-orders). I'd like to see a CMS page-based dashboard option for loyalty management. We use classic accounts, and the model window causes customers to miss key tier details and redemption options.

With Smile.io, most of our loyalty needs are met. We use the POS integration, and with Klaviyo, we can send our members custom emails with their loyalty point balances.

I've been using Smile.io for 3-4 years now, and what I like most about it is how much you can actually do with it. One limitation for me is that I can’t link two separate stores and allow customers to share or use loyalty points across both. I understand this may not be a common use case, but for businesses operating multiple Shopify stores this would be extremely valuable. I also feel there could be more flexibility when it comes to email customization. While the built-in emails work fine, having more control over design and content without workarounds would make the experience even better.

For me, it's solving the problem of customer retention and repeat purchases. Before using it, it was harder to give customers a clear reason to come back after their first order. We had a chat with Smile and they were very helpful when it came to migrating us over. Since signing up with Smile, we have seen a rise in overall LTV. Customers who take part in our loyalty scheme have a 112% higher LTV in comparison to people who aren't signed up. Very positive overall!

On the POS you can't use specific dollar amounts it has to be $1, $5 or $10. I can't see a breakdown of points on peoples accounts. It would be helpful if it said... you have to spend another $10 to receive the next tier (something like that).
People don't want to hear points they want to hear dollar values. Me saying you have 3000 pts means nothing unless I explain it. it's too many numbers peoples attention spans are very short. If I have a long line up it's even worse. People want simple.

It's not solving a problem it's providing added value to my customers. It's a tool to help give appreciation to my customers. I don't have to think or calculate it just does it. (1) In the past, I created a reward that 1 customer took advantage of. We lost potential income because the customer claimed "freebies," which were not set with a minimum purchase. This was completely my mistake; as a first-time e-commerce merchant, this was not on my radar. It would have been beneficial if there was an auto-warning of some sort.

(2) It might also be beneficial to have some push notification to customers. For example, our referral rewards are rarely used. This is a low-hanging fruit that is not being maximized.

It integrates nicely with Shopify, which means less friction for day-to-day setup and management. 

It offers a lot of standard reward-actions (purchase, referral, VIP tiers, etc) so you get good value out of the box.

One limitation I’ve noticed is the difficulty in running highly targeted bonus points promotions, such as highlighting a specific product range for an extra points event. The program rules seem somewhat rigid in this area and don’t offer as much flexibility as I’d like.

Additionally, some of the more advanced customization and segmentation options are only available on higher-priced plans. This can leave smaller or niche stores feeling restricted in what they can do.

While this may not be your primary concern, it’s also worth mentioning that many users have pointed out the free and lower-tier plans lack detailed reward-rule options.
