The Scale Computing Platform provides a solution for our needs for our core infrastructure. The platform is reliable, and as a full-service solution, the GUI provides a simple responsive platform to work with. Since early 2014, we have depended on the Scale Computing Platform to host our core infrastructure. Scale Computing has been able to support our growth. Additionally, we have leveraged their technical support, which has always been timely and outstanding. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Through the years, Scale Computing has been able to integrate many things that were missing. It is difficult to find anything to complain about with Scale Computing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The most helpful thing about SCALE Solutions is that I can get someone on the phone to help with any issues I may have with the system (even though they are far and few between). Also, the ease of implementation and the support you receive when setting up new hardware. They are with you each step of the way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't have anything bad to say about the the system and service. For our small IT office, it is the best fit. When there are only two IT personnel for close to 200 end users, you don't have a lot of time in between calls, so you need something that you can depend on, and people you can depend on. You get that with SCALE systems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Scale platform is straightforward to set up and deploy. Once it is up and running, it is easy to spin up new VMs and set up backup scheduling. I like that you can buy a cheap and deep system for snapshots and keep your other systems for your VMs. In the six years we've used Scale, I've only had to contact support four times. Every experience has been friendly and professional. This is one of the main plusses for using the Scale system.
Platform updates are seamless and can be run during the day. We've never had an update fail or interrupt our day-to-day work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only issue we've had would be migrating off of the Hyper-V platform to Scale. It isn't a terrible process but it is very transfer intensive - having to export the "blank" VM and then re-import the "loaded" VM. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The set-up of the environment only took a couple of hours before the environment was up and spinning.
The migration and ease of integration of VMs from the environment we switched from went smoothly, it was not difficult to convert to Scale HC3 disks
The admin user interface in Scale HC3 is compact, informative.
Firmware and feature updates are released to the nodes on a regular basis. You don't have to take down the entire environment to update. One click is needed, then one node is updated at a time. The nodes handle the load balancing between the nodes themselves.
In case of problems with the environment, you can always reach support from a customer portal. The response time for help is short. The help we receive is very professional. If there is a hardware failure, the support sends out spare parts quickly.
Frequency of using the admin portal, is not that often, because verything works and takes care of itself so well that it's easy to forget about environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What has been most problematic with the Scale Computing Platform, was that the SSD disk was quite sensitive in the beginning. We have had 2 - 3 occasions when they have broken and needed to be replaced. It's all about the quality of the SSD perhaps? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
SCALE just plain works and works well. we have 2 sites that are geographically separated by many miles with only a Microwave link between them. By today's standards, this "data pipe" is very small and creates many challenges. With the SCALE product, we can send snapshots between the 2 sites without any issues. The environment is easy to manage and the few times we have needed help, the support we received was incredibly excellent. Moving servers around is very easy, and setting up snapshots or replication is very intuitive and easy. Just a great product. To add nodes, we did contact support but really with just a few commands the nodes were added and happy Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We have had a few updates stop in the middle to the point that we needed support and even in the middle of the night on a Sunday, we received incredible support and the problem was quickly resolved.
One thing, I wish we could just add storage as needed without adding the other resources. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy of use. Simple UI that puts most of what you need in front of you in one place.
Cost is very reasonable for the hardware, OS and support especially compared to VMware
Built-in snapshotting and replication. Virtually instant restore time for data drive or entire VM
SCALE teams interaction with customers. They are constantly reaching out to me for reviews of the product and suggestions for future features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Missing some power user features in the UI.
Ability to sort and show metrics for VMs could use some improvement.
Level of fault tolerance in a single cluster regardless of the number of nodes.
Some lack of ability to mix and match different server node configurations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Setup of this hyperconverged solution is super simple, and creating and managing virtual machines is so easy my kids could do it. Customer support is very knowledgable and is there to walk you through the setup step by step. The (rarely needed) support I've received through the years is by far the best I've experienced in the industry. Our company uses Scale clusters on a daily basis for our entire computing environment, and we rarely have problems or need support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I would like to have the option to continue software support on "outdated" or end of life products. I can source hard drives to replace if they fail, so it would be nice to have an extended software support option to extend the life of products to use as a DR failover, or archive servers. Having relied on the Scale Computing platform for nearly a decade, I can attest to its enduring value in the realm of IT infrastructure. The platform's user-friendly interface remains a standout feature, offering simplicity without sacrificing functionality. Whether managing virtualization, storage, or data protection, the intuitive design has made day-to-day operations a breeze.
Scale Computing's scalability has been a game-changer over the years. From the early days of implementation to the present, the platform has seamlessly grown with our evolving needs. The ease of adding nodes and resources ensures that scalability is not just a feature but a practical reality, making it an ideal solution for businesses anticipating expansion. The integration in existing systems is super simplistic.
In terms of reliability, Scale Computing has consistently delivered. Over the years, its high level of resiliency has proven critical during hardware failures, ensuring uninterrupted operations. The automated failover and disaster recovery capabilities have been a reliable safety net, mitigating the risk of downtime and data loss. We use and depend on the Scale servers frequently every day.
Beyond the platform itself, the ongoing support and collaborative community have added immense value to my experience. Scale Computing's customer support remains responsive and knowledgeable, and the user community provides a wealth of insights and best practices.
In conclusion, my nearly 10-year journey with Scale Computing has been marked by a consistently dependable and evolving platform. For businesses seeking a solution that combines simplicity with scalability and reliability, Scale Computing remains a steadfast choice that has stood the test of time. While Scale Computing has generally been a reliable and user-friendly platform in my experience, one aspect that could be perceived as a drawback is the limited degree of customization in certain features. However, this streamlined approach ensures a more straightforward and intuitive user experience, making it an ideal choice for those who prioritize ease of use and quick implementation over extensive customization options. The platform's commitment to simplicity has been a key factor in its long-term success, catering to a broad user base and ensuring efficient operations without unnecessary complexities. The dasboard is incredibly easy to navigate. The snapshot & replication functionality is easy to setup. Leveraging the snapshots to restore files & drives. Easily able to spin up servers. Easily review total usage of memory & disk space. The latest updates also make navigating the dashboard even easier than before. The product is just getting better and better as time goes on. Having to always 'spin up' a new server if I have to revert back to a snapshot. It would be great if we could just 'go back' to a previous snapshot instead of cloning. I always loose the snapshots of the previous server, and the replication data has to be managed separately now. The export function is something that I plan on using, but has to be done by the support team. It would be great if I could just take care of it. Scheduled exports of entire VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Easy to setup and manage with easy access to competent support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Not as mainstream as VMware or HyperV making integration with 3rd party management tools more difficult. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
