Scale Computing Platform Overview

What is Scale Computing Platform?

Scale Computing was founded to fulfill an IT infrastructure need often hindered by the complexity, time, and resources that traditional virtualized IT environments demand. Today, Scale Computing delivers a platform solution for data center, edge computing, virtualization technology, and hyperconverged infrastructure to customers worldwide. Award-winning Scale Computing Platform eliminates the need for traditional virtualization software, disaster recovery software, servers, and shared storage, replacing these with a fully integrated, highly available system for running applications. 1. Simplicity Engineered Eliminate mundane management tasks and save IT administrators valuable time. SC//Platform's simplicity directly impacts IT with higher productivity and lower costs. Using patented HyperCore™ technology, the self-healing platform automatically identifies, mitigates, and corrects problems in the infrastructure in real time, enabling applications to achieve maximum uptime even when local IT resources and staff are scarce. 2. Scalable Plan the perfect future by not predicting it. Simply mix and match old and new hardware and applications on the same infrastructure for a future-proof environment that can scale up or down as needed. The storage system avoids issues inherent in traditional network storage approaches (SAN and NAS). By embedding storage with the hypervisor, resources can be automatically pooled across an entire cluster, and new storage is automatically added when new nodes are introduced. 3. Secure SC//Platform is designed to be 'Secure by Default,' meaning security isn't an option—it's a fundamental component ingrained in every aspect of the system. This approach eliminates the need for extensive configuration or additional security layers post-deployment. Unlike alternative solutions that require a long and complex “security best practices” checklist, SC//Platform limits the potential for misconfiguration vulnerabilities. 4. Manageable Scale Computing Fleet Manager combines centralized management with cloud and local automation, allowing infrastructure and applications to achieve and maintain the desired state throughout the entire life of the environment. Zero-touch provisioning decreases the time of installation by 90% or more Secure Link allows access to the HyperCore UI for in-depth cluster management with the click of a button without needing expensive or complex remote access solutions such as VPN or RDP Real-time monitoring of all workloads across a global fleet of SC//HyperCore clusters is made even easier with a searchable and customizable view 5. Cost-Effective Reduce IT infrastructure costs in almost every way. Hidden IT infrastructure costs associated with downtime, management, maintenance, training, and consulting are reduced to almost nothing. What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

Simplicity. Honestly, at first I thought it looked too simple, but after fully migrating over to Scale from VMware I realized I didn't require the thousand tweaks that it offered. Plus, most SysAdmin's dread upgrades to VMware and with Scale it is an absolute breeze. I spend barely anytime having to manage our 3 node cluster compared to what I was doing with our VMware cluster.

We've been running Scale for a little over 2 years and it's been exceptional. Support is all US based and timely.

We will be putting in our first DR node in a few months so we are comitted to Scale. Also, no need to purchase additional icensing for replication. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

There are few things I wish they would add such as Hot Add CPU/Memory, Dynamic Memory, firmware management (the ability to managed drivers/firmware for the hardware), advanced networking (netflow within the hypervisor), VM metrics, VM boot order, and VM affinity (I want to make sure my Domain Controller's are running on different hosts).

Even with these features missing they weren't enough to sway me to stay with VMware or move to Nutanix. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are small/medium business that didn't wanted to simplify our virtualized enviornment. Scale gave us a higher fault tolerances compared to our previous setup and freed up man-hours that could be focused on other projects. For small/medium businesses Scale is an exceptional product. What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The Scale server platform provides everything you need without the unnecessary extras. Its user interface is clean and highly intuitive, making it simple to navigate. One of the standout features is the ability to take snapshots and create clones in just seconds. This functionality is invaluable when working on tasks that have the potential for issues, as you can recover quickly if needed.

Even if you’ve never used Scale before, an experienced administrator will have no trouble finding their way around. Additionally, their support team is outstanding—always quick to address any issues and provide solutions effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Honestly, I don't have anything about the platform that I would consider a drawback. It has consistently met my needs and expectations without any notable issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

We run our core and mission-critical applications on the Scale Computing Platform. It enables us to manage our servers quickly and efficiently. For instance, creating a new server takes only minutes, which significantly streamlines our operations.

We are currently in the process of purchasing our second Scale system, as our first one has served us exceptionally well for years. Scale offers an excellent balance of performance and cost compared to its competitors, making it a valuable investment for our organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

I like the Scale platform because it is easier to use than other VMs, and does exactly what we need it to do.

We currently have it for 3 of our locations and currently building our clusters using your new552F line.

Its Fast, effective and affordable.

Anytime I have needed to speak with support they are always, friendly, informative, and it is hard to find good support these days, but not with Scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

The down side I currently experience is not really with Scale but with Acronis Backups. I believe we have all of those wrinkles ironed out now but not at the fault of Scale. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

We do not have to purchase physical hardware, we can pick and choose what our servers need as far as CPUs, RAM, etc.. If we find an error on our end, at times its just faster to spin up a new machine instead of investing the time it would take to troubleshoot the issue which gives us less down time. What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

When creating VMs, setting up the # of CPUs, allocated memory and disk space is incredibly simple. After migrating to Scale Computing, I set up VMs running Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008, Windows 10, Centos 7, and Redhat 8. In my opinion, one of the best features of Scale Computing is how easy I can manage my VMs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Scale doesn't (at the time of this writing) support Microsoft's VM-Generation ID feature. This feature is intended to allow for the safe rollback of a Domain Controller from a snapshot when there is more than one Domain Controller in use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

We had numerous hardware platforms that were approaching (or had outlived) their end of life. These included database servers, file servers and user resources, such as print servers. Numerous old servers could not be upgraded to the newest Windows editions and we were getting hardware failures. Moving everything to Scale Computing gave us an avenue to escape the hardware refresh headaches.

With Scale we eliminated a great deal of hardware by virtualizing these functions. We reduced our physical footprint and the cost to operate and cool all that hardware. Another big win was being able to virtualize and operate older operating systems when licensing or compatibility issues precluded a move to anything newer. Scale helped us assemble and use tools to virtualize some very old systems which would be impossible to keep running as hardware. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The technology is really good but what I like best is the customer support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

I think the product or product suite is still in its infancy stage so I think this gripe will get better. I think just increasing the ease of use and improving the UX. I also think although the support is really good. I feel that there needs to be a team that is contacting sompanies using scale and introducing them to other things they can use scale for. A team that will take adeep dive in to how we are using scale and then suggest new ways to use it and new things you can spin up. afterall its free to spin up new things. This can increase customers value. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The simplicity of the solution is what we like best. The interface is clean. Upgrades are just a couple of mouse clicks. When I have required support, it is easy and efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

The only downside is we don't have an HDMI capable KVM, so I have to move the HDMI connection manually to view the local nodes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

Scale offers a one part number solution. No dealing with multiple vendors. No compatibility issues.

We are able to patch and upgrade on the fly. We are able to spin up desktop operating systems for point solutions: SFTP host, remote access desktop for technical support, full desktop for an iPad based user (via remote access). We manage two legacy client server solutions as a backup to a cloud solution. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

Besides the manufacturing delay. Set up and schduling for online support to onboard the cluster was great. HC3 interface is simplistic to use compared to VMware Vcenter .

Spinning up VM was flawless comapred to Vmware or Virtual box Able to see metrics in Fleetmanger was good but could use more details and better graphs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Idid notice their documentation neeeds to be updated. Thier netowrking guide needs to be based on current switches and Cisco Model. Fleet manager and HC3 Node login needs multiple MFA support beside Okata. DUO or Microsoft Azure MFA app needs to be included. Able to do bare metal and VM backups without snapshots to NAS or Azure or Google Cloud could improve. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The SCALE Platform is easy to use and implement. It has a growing feature set, regular development cycles, stellar support and API integration. I manage our in house clusters and customer clusters with little effort every day. Infrastructure costs and complexity are greatly reduced with this solution without compromising uptime and failover capability whether using it for an edge deployment or a large server farm. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

As a platform that's hard to say. The platform continues to evolve. I'd have to say that any deficiencies would be in very specific use cases that I have yet to run into. Dynamic scaling of hosted system resources may be the weakest point here. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

The largest probem Scale solves is backend complexity in the infrastructure needed to support HCI at a cost that is reasonable and relatively affordable for medium and even small business in order to achieve the resiliency that it offers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

Scale Computing servers are reliable, fast, and easy to manage.

They also have a good support team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Even though servers are easy to manage, I think that the management interface could be more intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

I believe that it solves many problems we had in the past.

The solution we have is a cluster with 3 nodes, so just because of this, that gives us high-availability, which means that if one server goes down, everything keeps working.

The management interface allows us to create VMs in the cluster and distributes the VMs among the nodes.

Updating their system is very easy and it updates one server at a time not requiring any downtime. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Scale Computing Platform?

The best thing about the Scale platform is the simplicity of implemenation and maintenance. It reduces the amount of training needed for technical staff responsible for maintaining infrastructure. Having implemented multiple systems for ourselves and our clients over the last 5-7 years I can say confidently that the technology is reliable and technical / customer support is effective and easy to work with. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scale Computing Platform?

Really the only downsides I've found in working with the Scale platform is it is limited in it's ability to connect to external storage sources (like mounting in iSCSI target to import VMs) and the lack of a fully featured virtual networking module. These are features that aren't needed 95% of the time, and there are other ways to accomplish just about everything. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Scale Computing Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?

Scale has solved our need for a virtualization platform that is (a) simple to manage, (b) can easily grow and expand as our needs change and (c) provide options for offsite replication. As an alternative to the hypervisor host + SAN architecture we used in the past, it's reduced our infrastructure expenses significantly over 5 years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
