11 Samsung Remote Test Lab Reviews
While testing your app on an emulator is easy and useful while on the development stage, it is very important to test the app on a variety of real devices before putting it on the market.
Since buying and maintaining many devices for testing purposes is not always an option, Samsung's Remote Test Lab comes to help solve this problem by allowing you to test your app on a huge selection of real devices (obviously, Samsung's own) remotely.
The requirements to run the Remote Test Lab is a PC able to run Java runtime and a modern browser (JavaScript is needed) and a good internet connection. You will also have to sign up for a Samsung account to be able to test your app. You get few hours a day for testing (which has to be reserved per device).
Device selection is huge. You have access to many Samsung phones, tablets and "wearables" each with all the supported android versions and Samsung keep on adding all their newer devices.
After you install your apk on the remote device via the interface, you can interact with it and test its layout and functionality. You get some basic controls to help you with the tests, including screen capture and video recording of the session. Those can be helpful when reviewing the test session with others or generating reports. (Don't forget to uninstall the app from the device to ensure no one else will have access to it at this stage of testing…) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are some limitations that should be considered, the most important is that all the tests are done remotely over the web, there is a lag, so performance cannot be assessed correctly (make sure to select a server closer to you when you setup your test to get the best performance possible)
Other issues are the lack of ability to make any SIM related operations, such as, phone calls or texting (wifi is available however). Also, access to the camera and audio are not available.
Since the device is remote, if it gets stuck/freeze/locked you have to contact Samsung's support for someone to manually reboot it, which is not ideal with your testing schedule…
As stated before, only Saumsung devices are available for testing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
