Nothing, Thomson Reuter's is a terrible organization that is not competent or honest. When we ran into issues with the professional services team and requested an account manager, nothing happened, when we sent a Certified letter to their head office requesting a replacement contact, it took 4 months for a response from the same people we had issues working with initially. The guidance given to our Law Firm, was terrible. We are completely cloud-driven, zero onsite servers. Yet we were advised to spin up 7 servers to host ProLaw and use their certified vendor to manage.
Our firm has 42 timekeepers, Thomson Reuter's took over 14 months to service only 14 of our users at a cost of $182,125.35 for those 14 months of usage. This is flagrant abuse by a poorly managed, publically traded company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is a certain simplicity to the search/quick find that can be done with both a contact and a matter, so there makes more than one way to skin a cat or find a file. I prefer to do the contact search because it will enable you to see any related Matters, and from there, you can find all related Matters, and of course, the Master matter is a depository for everything. Because this program pairs with Outlook, you can "add-in" emails and documents sent via emails directly to the Matter by using the Matter number. The drag and drop feature is also very nice, making it possible to save a document to the desktop and then drop it right into the Matter under whichever heading it is relating to. It is also possible to have multiple Matters open so that you can jump from place to place or file to file as it were without having to leave your seat or hunt down a physical file. The fact that our nonlawyer IT people can navigate the program is a testiment to the fact that you don't need to be an IT person or a lawyer to be able to do the basic search or create functions. It is also a dream for calendaring appointments, as I have said, it is all inclusive. Under the appointment file folder, once an appointment is set up it will autopopulate to the required participant's Outlook calendar thereby blocking off the time without having to go three seperate places, this program truly ties all of the staff together with one program, even marketing uses ProLaw to schedule events. The document tree is not user-friendly and will not always search in a way that makes sense. I have often tried to search for a document template, and even when using the percentage character for an all-inclusive search, I don't always find the correct document that I need. The merge function is slow, and the page often needs to be updated with information that should have automatically merged onto the form. One more item that would be nice is if ProLaw would automatically generate a Matter sub number for the client Matters so that there was continuity. Or perhaps that is just an internal office procedure that I might want to address at a later date when I know more. It would be nice if there was a search feature within each Matter so that I would not have to go through each file and each tab of each file which means opening up. The only other item I can think to point out is that keeping track of billable time itself is not offered, for that we need to use a completely different program, one which is in no way interfaced or connected. Causing a duplication in efforts for paralegals and admin assistants who have to enter billing items which then need to be uploaded as a document to ProLaw as well as entering them into the timekeeping program for prebill coordination. The docketing! While experienced support staff can tell you in a heartbeat the difference between answer deadlines in district court vs. state court, how many times are those experienced people RUSHING and MULTI-TASKING to get these things docketed? Multi-tasking is just a euphemism for About to Overlook Something, often creating inadvertent errors of omission or inaccuracy. Rules sets updated by Thompson Reuters give me the confidence that, despite that 15th update to the local rules in the Middle District of Somewhere, I am still conforming to court requirements. The ability to create custom dockets to ensure adherence to our firm's best practices creates a smooth path to doing the right thing, every time. It also allows us to meet our clients' litigation reporting and billing requirements with consistency, which seems to make them pretty happy. Oh, and you can do all the other stuff in ProLaw, too. Firm billing, firm A/P, timekeeping, reporting, marketing - it's all built right in. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The learning curve is more like months, rather than weeks. Do you remember when you first learned to use Excel, and you were like, these are boxes into which I type numbers, ooook. Oh wait, look! I can make it add the numbers together. Kind of neat. Oh WAIT, I can make it analyze cell contents and apply conditional formatting? OH WAIT.... PIVOT TABLES?! That's what it's like when you learn Prolaw. When first presented with it, it seems like a LOT of tabs for no apparent reason. And then you start using the forms (which source from fields on those tabs) and you're like oooooh this letter took a fraction of the time to create - BOOM! Then you start figuring out WHY there are so many tabs and what features and capabilities lay in wait for you to discover and use to your benefit. And the DOCKETING! Not going to lie, it takes a minute. But when you start to approach it methodically, it begins to make a lot of sense, and eventually, it almost becomes muscle memory. You realize you have the acronym for common rule sets memorized and feel a little weird about it. Like any incredibly powerful tool, it's only as effective as the one who wields it - and it's not one you can just unsheath and start swinging and expect exceptional expert effectiveness. There are a lot of features to help keep documents and files organized Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Limited options in each matter. I am unable to email multiple documents in a matter, only single documents, so it takes up a lot of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
ease and efficiency of the software, allows for easy implementation of the documents Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes a bit too complex - especially when you do not utilize all of the features that could be available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Prolaw has the efficiency to house all of your legal documents in one area. We had the option to have many of our templates in the system in order to provide ease in creating documents when there were a lot of cases and documents that needed to be drafted, Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Accessibility - You needed to have the software downloaded on to your system in order to utilize it. In our modern office it was difficult because our attorneys do a lot of traveling for trial and such so we had to buy multiple licenses in order to utilize it on the go, which is not cost effective. Pretty easy to use, and good interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Lots of bugs, sometimes does not save the hours I put in the program. Sometimes it blocks my computer from working and I have to restart it. Also, I don't like that you have to insert all the information in one transaction for you to insert a new one. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The front end of this program is very user friendly. The "files" are easy to navigate, and it's very easy to search with so many options. It's also very easy to keep track of time and billing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What I like least about prolaw is that there is no online support as far as the back end is concerned! I want video tutorials and relevant FAQ for some of the more complicated tasks such as generating and editing documents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love that all of our customers are in the same database and we can bill our time out to each customer and have it synced with Accounting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I don't like how long it takes to start up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
