The lifetime licenses that we purchased were taken away from us. We have decided to switch to another provider. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** PCLaw was originally a good system, helping to streamline all the processes, but it has gone sideways, unfortunately. ### 2. The ledgers make it very accessible to keep track of work completed, and users can make payments and write cheques with ease. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** The format does seem a bit out of date and could use face lift. Some of the font is small, but the program is customizable and can be changed based on the user. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** Definitely the most accessible program I have used in my 10+ years as a paralegal professional. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** PCLaw creates business solutions by providing efficient methods of tracking time and billing clients. Storing client information and payments is simplified with this process. We are more easily able to complete business-related obligations, such as serving our clients, providing fiscal reports, allocating payments/receipts, filing business taxes, obtaining information for quarterly lawyer reviews, etc. ### 5. Also, I love the fact to view all timekeepers, and the ability to view originations from attorneys. I love the fact that it is already incorporated with Accounting, and you do not need additional software. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** The fact that is a desktop application available to Windows users only. it should be an option for a cloud platform and iOS users. My company used the program for over 20 years, and this is the main reason that we had to change it as we only use Apple computers. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** If you are an iOS user you will need to consider Microsoft Remote Desctop to use it. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** Billing reports are great. Originating reports as well. Business productivity, intake forms, and accounting software are essential. Reports are comprehensive and helpful for any organziation. ### 6. I used it for years and it worked well. It was easy to log time and kept track of all my files and deadlines. It created easy-to-read bills as well. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** Updates and the cost. When they switched over to an annual fee to use their software, it became too expensive to use and made my previous version unusable. Would have liked a way to continue to use it as a solo. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** If you can afford to invest the money into the product it worked well **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** But for the cost, I enjoyed using PC Law, but the changes to their pricing structure priced me right out of their product. ### 7. It was difficult to work with which is why we decided to switch to another program. It did not compare well to other programs. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** Not easy to navigate, challenging to work with and find the documents or information that I was looking for. I would not recommend this program. The program would often freeze and at times some tabs did not seem to work. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** No there were no benefits from using this program. At times it seemed to create more problem because it took so long to find anything. ### 8. I have no issues. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** You can not go wrong with PCLaw. I hardly ever have issues, but when I do, I can call support, and they have always immediately been there to help me. They have quick customer support. However, to tell you how great the product is, I have only had issues twice in the 11 years I have been using the software. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are solving all billing issues, and we can streamline payables and receivables in one easy-to-use place. It gives me peace of mind that everything will be correct when it goes out to the client. ### 10. Laggy when the database is large. You can't leave it open overnight as it disconnects from the server with backup. Interface is slow. Very little is automated. The bills it generates are so obtuse that clients always call asking what do the bills even mean. I have to create summaries in MS Word. Correcting spelling errors in disbursement entries in a very slow process. If I put in the wrong hourly rate (ie, my hourly rate for a legal aid file or a discounted hourly rate file), I have to manually change each and every entry which is an extremely slow process. I can't make custom forms without getting admin privileges from the firm. It has been inordinately difficult to do such things as remove a "total tax" line from the template bill when the "total tax" line doesn't even set out all of the tax (it sets out GST only instead of combined GST and PST). **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** Don't use PC Law **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm a lawyer so I need timekeeping and trust accounting software. PC Law is very good with trust accounting. Not very good with timekeeping. Since I do mostly timekeeping because I am not the owner of the firm I don't get much in terms of benefits. ### 11. For basic needs it generally works kinda ... **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** This software is about 10 years behind in terms of user interface. Very little control over colors, font sizing, you name it. They want you to pay a mountain of money for the annual tech support. Today, (April 3, 2020) I called tech support. I waited 20 minutes to be connected to someone in an Off Shore call centre only to be unable to speak with them as the transmission was virtually non existent ... so I sent an email with my problem nicely laid out. I need to switch the software from old computer to new computer ... sounds easy ... Its NOT !!!! The email bounced back ... said to call the support line (see above). There is just no reason to buy / use this product. everyone who is using other legal accounting software seems very happy with all aspects of their new product after using Grandpa's 72 Chevy Nova (PcLaw) for so long. Find another Program. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** On hold times for tech support over 2-4 hours. Dealing with someone overseas, I was disconnected twice, they never called back then you are forced back in the que as many as 20 people ahead of me back in line for hours. Sales rep did not know that only certain versions of PCLaw users can upgrade base on the database being used. I never got upgraded to the full version. Even the feedback link crashed. Do they really expect business professionals to stay on hold this long? **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** After the year subscription we will be finding another program. Endless websites, phone numbers, resources, related areas spread out all over the place. ### 13. After 6 years of use, I am FINALLY getting something that works! (the ONLY actual positive thing is that it is local and not cloud based) **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** Constant crashes. But the WORST aspect is that the user interface is as elegant as a slaughtered hog. The coding is amateurish (windows dont fit in their own spaces, buttons are displaced, it looks like it was designed by random homeless people. When you DO navigate to the right screen, you still cant access all you need ... nope. Go load a different screen to load a message. Want to look at "phone messages" DONT click on "phone messages", you can only (kindof) take a message. It. Is. Horrible. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** It has taught me problem solving skills in determining a way to have a functional office despite having a case management program that does NOT work. ### 14. It's great for my work - in a law firm setting. Helps us keep client files organized, billing in one place and easily accessible. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** It does have glitches at times. The program has frozen on me many times where I've had to then restart the program or my computer to get it to work again. The option to print shorter ledgers should be available or easy to find if it is available because sometimes I am printing out 8/9 pages of a ledger when I only needed the most recent entries. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** Best tool available for any law firm/office. The last firm I worked at did not use PC Law and it was much less organized. PC Law does everything for you even billing! **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** Many benefits of PC law in my work place. We are able to stay organized. We are able to access how much clients owe us, how much money remains in their trust balance. It is easy to see all this when we print out our ledgers. We communicate a lot just by printing out the ledgers highlighting the important parts and passing it on to another co-worker. ### 19. I also like that the software produces reports efficiently to address various concerns or questions a lawyer or client may have. It also has the ability to produce clearly detailed invoices. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** When it comes to adjusting invoices it is a little difficult to do. When invoices are adjusted through the RTF format, it is hard to figure out how to save these adjusted invoices in the PC Law system. If you are a beginner, it is hard to figure out the software at first. The program has so many functions that covers all areas in a law firm's accounting management. However, should you have to pick the best feature out of the many. then the customer support will probably top the list as they are one of the best support teams I've dealt with. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** There are, however, quite a few issues with PCLaw. While it possesses so many features, it definitely is not as user friendly as it seems. There are way too many buttons and a lot of setup is required to use PCLaw efficiently. A regular end-user would probably have to go through some training and demos in order to get used to all the features. In addition, depending on the size of your database, calling information over a networked environment may take some time if your network and hardware infrastructure is not up to the task. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** Definitely request some demos and training to get used to PCLaw as it will be very helpful in the future. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** As it consolidates many programs into one, it saves on licensing fees for multiple programs and users. ### 23. There are bugs every other week that take a long time to resolve. Their HelpDesk/Customer Service doesn't know more than an experienced user about the program. Nothing too complicated that would need training. I also like that I can easily see the time of the employees that are working for me and how many hours have been devoted to each case. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** I wish it was a little more intuitive and that I didn't have to open separate windows to enter new time vs. see old time and entries. Perhaps because I access it through Citrix, but it just always seems weird to toggle through from entry to entry. And if you hit Return/Enter, then everything is submitted and you have to go and edit it in a different window or open a new one to continue adding entries. Also, I don't think anyone in the world ever uses that timer. Also, there are some pop-ups that keep coming up that you have to change settings on or else you will be continually annoyed. **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** I think you would have to do a cost-benefit analysis. I don't know what the pricing is on this, but I wasn't particularly thrilled. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is a relatively easy way to get your billing done. ### 28. This software works great for a firm of our size. It's easy to use and can hold a good amount of matters (we should be able to grow quite a bit, while still being able to use PCLaw). The daily entry of time, expenses, etc is very easy once set up. **What do you dislike about PCLaw®?** The software is definitely dated, and I have some issues with crashing and other weird/buggy behavior. I have to set the default printer every time I log on in order to avoid multiple pop-ups when trying to print a document/report (which definitely doesn't take much time, but it can get annoying). **Recommendations to others considering PCLaw®:** If you're a law firm who has a lot of clients/matters, PCLaw may not be available for you. My old firm grew to a point where they had to switch to Juris because they had too many matters in the system. If you're a smaller firm who needs an accounting software that is easy to use and can quickly get bills out to get you paid, this is a great product. **What problems is PCLaw® solving and how is that benefiting you?** This software is easy enough to use that we do not need to hire an accounting professional to be able to run on a day-to-day basis. It is very easy to put in lawyer's time and get bills out quickly to clients, which helps our cash flow. IP law is a very niche market, and the fact that PCLaw is able to keep up with a heavy amount of matters, each having a different number/code helps us stay organized. ### 31.
