The connection to the Portainer agent, which runs on the production docker instance, can feel slow, depending on network conditions. Of course, that is a little harsh, as the snappy response of the on-prem Portainer instance skews your experience. I use Portainer as a GUI to manage docker containers. The business problems it addresses is the complicated management of docker with lots of containers and using the command line. It's way easier to manage docker containers with Portainer due to the friendly Web GUI it provides. Kubernetes management seems somewhat half-baked, at least compared to out-of-the-box solutions like the console that comes with it. Annoying and tacky shilling for the paid product in the free one (taking the form of bright orange switches that are forced on or off, and there is no way to hide these).
