What do you like best about PhotoShelter for Brands?

The ability to limit access to images or to easily share galleries and lightboxes. Metadata search is great for our org and helps people find the right images 24/7 without lots of back and forth emailing. Inability for users to download an entire lightbox with one click. Becomes problematic for larger collections. Responsiveness is a little slow sometimes, and it's not always clear to users how to navigate certain options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about PhotoShelter for Brands?

The layouts are easy to follow. I really like how navigation works although in the beginning there is a bit of confusion about how the portfolio galleries, lightbox, client galleries, etc. all function. I like being able to have multiple styles on one website. Site template designs do not take over the images. In other words, they showcase the photography well. Also, after having a website provider Bigfolio who NEVER answered the phone or responded to my messages, it's nice to speak with a human being who can help you walk through any questions. What do you dislike about PhotoShelter for Brands?

I don't like the system used for selling images. I wish they did everything or connected with Digilabs who was my former vendor. I like to sell prints, but it doesn't work well with Photoshelter because it's too expensive. I don't like that Photoshelter is only in NY because I'm not the West Coast. What do you like best about PhotoShelter for Brands?

You can download images at different sizes and search quickly based on keywords. There are also a number of attributes you can search on. It makes it nice to be able to download the images already optimized to web sizes as well. It's nice to be able to add users into the account to be able to sort through things as well. I also like the ability to rate on a scale of 1-5, that helps my team sort to see which images are preferred very easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about PhotoShelter for Brands?

There isn't a way to enforce consistency so it's incumbent on the users to make sure they're making the keywords, nomenclature, etc. consistent and filling it all in so that the sorting can be done effectively. We also had a lot of issues when the new platform updated with anyone on an older version of the browser that required an upgrade process with our internal IT. It would be helpful to have certain fields that we can determine for people to have to select so that, at very least, there are attributes outside of file type and date to be able to sort by. Recommendations to others considering PhotoShelter for Brands:

Make sure you have an internal SOP created on how you're going to fill in the user-dependent fields to ensure you can use the Search and other features effectively. I also think that being able to add comments to go along with the star rating would be helpful along with the ability to use a half star to help differentiate the middle-of-the-road creative. What problems is PhotoShelter for Brands solving and how is that benefiting you?

Photo hosting. It's been great to have our external photographer upload the images and we are all very immediately able to access and download them from the same URL. It's also nice to be able to search all of the other images for other sites in N America in the same location. I think being able to host multiple types of images in the platform is very helpful and the ability to preview the images makes the process of searching through them so much easier. What do you like best about PhotoShelter for Brands?

Not having to stop what I'm doing and search for photos for someone/people, I can grant access to anyone, and there are many layers of permissions that I can set depending on who that person is. It's secure and the customer service is always amazing! Having access from anywhere at any time is has also been a major game-changer for me in particular with COVID when the school went remote. What do you dislike about PhotoShelter for Brands?

The amount of time it takes to tag—I wish there was facial recognition which would eliminate have the tagging. To date, we don't have all our photos tagged and therefore the search option is not usable for us.

Browsers can be an issue too so I always have to tell people to use chrome. And for those that don't use it or have it, it creates an extra step for them download it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This has opened up time for me that used to spend looking for photos for people. On the other hand it's created a HUGE job of tagging everything we uploaded and making sure everything coming in is tagged.

What do you like best about PhotoShelter for Brands?

The team at PhotoShelter has re-directed their focus to improving the site and it's capabilities, which were already fantastic. For a very low monthly price, you can get truly unlimited storage for images, as well as some very well done templates to use in building your customer facing website. Also, there are multiple methods for incorporating payment vendors, as well as print vendors into your site.

Being able to upload to PhotoShelter and have the rest of the organization access our companies photos without emailing me is a tremendous benefit. I'm able to focus my time on photographing events and culling instead of answering emails all day. The search/keyword tool is a life saver. I've used other programs that have the same feature but this one actually works how it should. Being able to access my entire library and search for specific images if tremendously helpful. Also, with the restrictions, I'm able to safely upload images to one location and not worry about someone touching the files if I haven't received approval for them.
