## Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) Reviews
  ### 1. Delivery service integration good idea – amateurish platform

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jon S. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 19, 2025

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

We used Otter for just under a year. We were a single BBQ store with both a takeout business and catering business (large trays of food ordered in advance). We were attracted to Otter’s integration with all the delivery services and the separate catering online store front. At lower price point than some of the alternatives we thought it was a good fit for our small business.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

What we didn’t anticipate is it would take us nearly 6 months to acting get set-up. Simple things like the ability to of a customer to be able to schedule a delivery (during normal operating hours) during a time when our store was closed had to be something that had to designed. This took weeks to resolve and we lost business. Its still mind-boggling it wasn’t a feature already embedded in their system. Once we got set-up, it was regular little annoyances and hiccups but we didn’t have the stomach to actually change again given how hard the initial original implementation was. I guess that is their barrier to entry.
The company will nickel and dime you as restaurant. They make their system compatible with just two printers so you’ll be stuck buying them or renting them. We unfortunately closed our restaurant this weekend. The icing on the cake was Otter’s refusal to even consider giving us the 10 days of service refunded back to us that we paid. There are more affordable options out there to consider (door dash online ordering is good alternative).

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

delivery service integration and separate catering online store

  ### 2. All-in-One POS Solution with Stellar Analytics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

I really appreciate the Otter Restaurant Operating System for its ability to solve our data problems. It allows us to dive into the data, track orders in real-time, and operate everything in-house without relying on third-party vendors. I like the analytics reporting, with multiple ways to present data and the option to pull it off in a CSV file for use in our internal systems, helping us build out better processes and standards across the organization. I find the third-party integration and reputation management really great. The loyalty program is a fantastic feature—we can leverage those aspects to build our top-line revenue. We regularly use the analytics reporting to see where our locations are paced, manage ticket times in real-time, and address any potential bottlenecks. Reputation management helps manage reviews and ratings across locations, fitting perfectly with our loyalty program to show our guests that they matter. The initial setup was very simple and easy, with great guidance and support from Otter.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

I wish there were more ways to manipulate how reports are shown in Arcadia. It would also be really nice to have a built-in timer in Arcadia that shows the day's average ticket time as the day progresses.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) helps us dive into data, track orders in real time, manage everything in-house without third-party vendors, and improve processes. I love the analytics, data export options, third-party integration, reputation management, and loyalty program, which help us build top-line revenue and enhance guest engagement.

  ### 3. Streamlined Sales Tracking with Seamless Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Austin N.

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

I really love being able to track all my sales in one place with Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS). It's great for tracking my restaurant analytics and monitoring both online and in-store sales. I also find it very convenient to mark an item as sold out across all platforms directly from the Otter POS. The initial setup was very simple and really straightforward. Additionally, I appreciate the integration services it offers for third-party platforms, and I use Otter for managing marketing promos on Uber Eats and DoorDash, as well as automated responses for Google Reviews.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

I would love if there was a store credit option for loading gift cards for customers or disgruntled guests. For purchasing gift card options when loading, it's typically only cash or credit card. It would be nice if there was an option to do a store credit where the money comes out of the sales at a later time.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) as my POS system, tracking all my sales and restaurant analytics. It integrates well with third-party platforms, allowing me to mark items sold out easily and manage marketing promos on platforms like Uber Eats and DoorDash.

  ### 4. Love the Self-Service Kiosk and Handheld Devices

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** nikole k. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

The self-service kiosk, as well as the handheld devices.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

They don’t offer a text payment link like our previous system did.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Online ordering has improved our kitchen’s efficiency. The overall flow is smoother, and food comes out faster.

  ### 5. Orders are automatically fetched from several sources

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** DANIEL S. | Tax Associate, Retail, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

Otter’s strongest suit is the third-party delivery solution. It is convenient for me to have Grubhub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and others all to go straight into the system rather than having to manually input the orders.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

The kitchen display system (KDS) does not have a very smooth operating interface. This one may take time to notify of new orders particularly during rush hours. This might cause a lot of confusion and cooks annoyed that they have to constantly check for the new recipe.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have noticed that having a consolidated platform ends up saving time due to fewer errors made in comparison to other customer service solutions that may take time to deliver the exact same result. Even if there are still glitches about KDS, Otter has made it really convenient for us to order online.

  ### 6. Overall, they provide good software to help you manage all your sales channels through one tablet.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Leonard M. | marketing manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

The fact that I can have Grubhub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and chownow orders all come through the same tablet and printer. Very convenient.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

Sometimes there are issues with connectivity between Otter's software and the third party platforms.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have different sales channels like Grubhub ans Uber Eats. Each one has their own merchant portal and layout. It's tedious to have to keep logging in to each one to make adjustments. With Otter, managing my menu is a lot simpler and applies to all menu items at once.

  ### 7. One of the worst vendors I've worked with

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2024

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

They have a wide integration ecosystem and it wasn't too difficult to set up

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

Just about everything else. I've worked in software for almost 20 years and Otter is hands down the worst vendor I've ever dealt with. They solution is buggy and unreliable, their documention and knowledgebase are a trainwreck and most employees have no idea what they're doing.

They also offer the worst support I've ever been subjected to. It's impossible to get in touch with anyone and when you do, your tickets are lost in the abyss until you follow up endless. Pick any other integration partner you can.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides integrations from POS to our solution.

  ### 8. One of the best softwares

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuel O. | Restaurant Staff, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2024

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

Best service to integrate multiple third party delivery services.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

their customer service needs improvement.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Otter, like any company, experiences both successes and challenges. I have come across numerous reviews criticizing its customer service, but as a restaurant business, Otter cannot be solely responsible for every aspect. There may be instances where it falls short, but there are also times when it greatly enhances the efficiency and ease of running my business. With features such as daily sales compilation, business insights, marketing tools, and menu management, Otter offers a comprehensive range of services.

  ### 9. Lack of Communication

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Restaurants | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

The idea of simplicity is great. All of the platforms are in one place.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

We signed on because it was supposed to be a simple, way to have all of the services together in one place. We could pause all platforms at one time, 86 an item and make other changes all from one place. That was not how it ended up. We have next to no support, if you want to speak with anyone you have to make an appointment and then it is only for a very specific amount of time. You get no instruction except for when you are setting up your tablet and printer. The initial person we spoke to gave us a brief demonstration of what Otter can do but never went into detail. They give you the option to chat on the tablet. When the restaurant is busy who has time to chat on a tablet? The second option is to email support. You then get a response stating that you will be contacted via email within 24 hrs. When there's an issue do you want to wait for 24 hrs? After sending multiple emails you finally get a response from one of the 3 different people a few days later which is no help. so I think that I would rather have three different tablets, and three different printers and deal with three different organizations that have no one to deal with at Otter. Of course, they took my money immediately! They didn't stall in that at least. Frustrated to say the least and no end in sight. We have invested time and money and now are questioning if we will continue. So very sad because the idea was great.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Right now there has been no resolution. Just one email stating what we need to do but no instruction on how to do it. I was told that they would do it for me but I still have questions about how to prepare for the task at hand. No other help has been offered. They just ignore you and hope that you go away.

  ### 10. Easy Integration Process

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lisa W. | Director of Catering and Events, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2022

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

The integration process was easy between Toast and Otter.

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

There were not any features that I disliked.

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have multiple ordering platforms and Otter helps streamline everything into Toast.

  ### 11. Otter Saves the Day

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Samara F. | VP Operations, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

Otter makes 3rd party delivery easy! it takes the pain out of marking items unavailable as well as entering the orders into the POS System

**What do you dislike about Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS)?**

anytime the 3rd party delivery platforms update something on their system it can cause issues with the integration with the POS system

**Recommendations to others considering Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS):**

you need this!

**What problems is Otter Restaurant Operating System (rOS) solving and how is that benefiting you?**

sales were not accurately reflected as team members were not ringing in the orders
