Munin is ideal for deployments emphasizing on results. It has ultra low overhead and it is extremely low on resources. It is also easy to setup, use, maintain and enrich. Creating a custom plugin - that is if you do not find one that meets your needs from the extensive list of available plugins (native or community provided) - is quite easy and straightforward. Basically, Munin get's the job done. It is available on any *nix based distribution.

I recommend giving it a try and let it run for a couple of months. It does not have all the eye candy other monitoring solutions have, but that is what makes it so lightweight and efficient. Other monitoring solution "pollute" your results or even hinder efficient use of your infrastructure, in the sake of "interactive" menus and "load on demand" graphs. Although all these are nice to have - who does not love to see fancy artwork and - at the end of the day the tool is meant to do one very specific job.
