Like all software in education, there's a time and place for it. I have seen Mastery Connect implemented beautifully and horribly, to no fault of Mastery Connect. Here are the pros:
- Comprehensive platform for assessing students and benchmarking
- Well organized and user-friendly for both teachers and students
- Tons of standards-based assessments are loaded and ready to be utilized
- Student knowledge can be gauged in real time with immediate feedback
- Teachers can critically analyze data and most of the heavy lifting is done by the software
- Linked to to Common Core standards
- Exceptional amount of content, specifically for ELA and Math
- Editable assessments that can be saved and shared, as well as downloaded. Some assessments are peer reviewed.
- Ability to enter raw scores and rubrics
- Grades can be exported to student gradebooks
- Includes a parent portal feature Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Few cons come to mind regarding the actual platform, but I do feel that there is a steep learning curve. In my experience, a trainer was provided to help orient and provide an overview; however, it was not very helpful. Another concern is that this is a pricey platform. I get it - they are an edtech company, but the price makes this difficult for some districts to justify. This isn't something a sole teacher could really use, either. Another concern is with how school leadership chooses to implement this platform - it is not designed to be a one stop shop for all assessments and it cannot replace other tried and true assessment methods (informal, formative, project-based, etc.), though some leaders insist on forcing to be used that way. So please proceed with that in mind if you are on a leadership team at your district or school. All in all, few cons with the actual platform other than the fact that it is a bit overwhelming at first. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the fact that the app is free to teachers and I absolutely love that it consists of benchmarks needed to be reached by the students, it’s also a way to see how they’re doing all year long. Makes it easier than writing scores in a logbook and tracking each students performance the hard way. Technology is really connecting a lot of dots and saving people a lot of time and resources. It’s super. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes it seems like the app is running slow (my WiFi and data connections are fine I’ve noticed). It could use a little upgrade but overall it’s teally useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As a teacher, it helps me identify and track student mastery of Common Core State Standards to inform teaching practice. can view data for the entire class or for individual students. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sorting data is more difficult than expected.
I am supposed to be able to filter data to sort by specific standards or by analyzing a specific item or question, but unless you have pre determined questions to look for, navigating raw data is tough. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Comprehensive tools for curriculum mapping, organizing assessments, networking, and tracking student progress on standards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The standout feature, curriculum mapping, requires a premium account. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The best part about Mastery Connect is that it syncs with our student information systems. The District Office can push out benchmarks for teachers or teachers can create their own benchmarks to share with others. In addition, if you have a co-teacher they can be a collaborator in your classroom to see assessments. Also if a teacher leaves the system their shared assessments are still available for others. In addition, administrators can create benchmark assessments that are private. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only problem that we have had with Mastery Connect is when we have to split rosters for a teacher such as a gifted roster, the benchmark did not follow the student. The company is working on this issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love how easy it is to apply student assessment data in an easy to read interface to help make data decisions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It does take a little longer than desired to upload assessments and to get the alignment of standards to the data points. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love how user friendly the product is. However, I especially love the standard alignment feature. Each assessment question can be aligned to any standard and all common core standards are already on Matery connect. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Students cannot listen to audio files while taking tests. Spanish students need audio files to answer listening comprehension questions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is easy to quickly grade student work and view statistics by class. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The software freezes and often has trouble scanning even when student ID numbers are bubbles in correctly. It is also time consuming to upload assessments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
