I love that the students feel they are in a real world situation. They see all aspects of the lab.
The technology is great and we have very few issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are not any real down sides. Always looking for more labs! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Labster offers a wide range of subject specific simulations across all sciences. As an online trainer it allows our learners to interact with and learn from the simulations as an extension to their usual training sessions.
The way it contextualises the lab, often offering a scenario, also let's the learner see science from a different angle, where it is applied to a real life situation and career.
Some of the labs are of a higher education level which covers our HE learners, but also learners who need to have recap of the science as they have not been in education for a while, can have a go at the school level Sims. Something for everyone.
The ability to access the labs on different devices even phone is also useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Sometimes the voice can be a little annoying, but Labster are addressing this. And there is an option to turn this off.
I would like the option to download the simulation grades as a pdf or excel, to give me more insight into gaps in knowledge but it is possible to look at grades in detail from the tutor menu, so this is just a personal preference and no major issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I really love that Labster sets its experiments in real-world scenarios and that the actual experiment is set in a "lab". Students get to see and experience the real lab equipment and how the step-by-step process works! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One minor drawback is that becuase the program is so detailed, it does take time to load and can freeze on my students school-issued computers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I teach Microbiology for the pre-nursing program at Webber International University. Being a new program at a campus that was known for its business focus, there were no laboratories on campus. Teaching micro was going to be tricky, since it is a lab heavy course. I discovered Labster, which offers virtual labs in many areas of biology, including microbiology. The labs are focused, engaging, introduce content, and go deep into the focused subject. Some labs are quick, such as how to do a gram stain, and others are longer, such as the basics of immunology. Every virtual lab includes quizzes, and offers guidance to the student user.
I used the labs to cover an objective (Immunology), to provide students a substitute for an actual microbiology lab (staining), and for critical thinking activities (identify an unknown specimen). For the 16 week course, I assign 18 labs, that the students enjoy completing from their dorm rooms! The data is available to me as the instructor. I can see what the students started, what they completed, quiz scores, and more.
Labster virtual labs are high quality learning tools, and well worth the price, which is labelled as the lab fee and charged to the students, who will not need to purchase equipment, or lab books, simply choose and assign the virtual labs. The only requirement is the student needs to have a computer or iPad.
The following is a list describing why I use Labster:
1. 20+ Virtual labs for microbiology, and many other topic areas
2. Easy to set up and use
3. Virtual labs delve deep into subject matter, ie. Immunology
4. Topics help meet course objectives
5. Virtual labs give students a "laboratory experience" when otherwise there would be no experience at all
6. Customer service is fast and effective
7. Instructor can simply observe student progress Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have no dislikes concerning the product. The price is a bit high for the university's liking, however the students do not need to purchase a book, and the university does not need to purchase and maintain any lab equipment, and there are no disposables to purchase. Labster is very useful for putting multiple concepts and techniques into a larger context, allowing students to apply what they're learning to a real-world situation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The lack of customization within Labster sometimes made it difficult to incorporate the simulations into our lesson plans. Some of the simulations we used contained extraneous concepts/techniques that didn't align with our curriculum/learning objectives, and I feel that this occasionally detracted from more essential material. The simulations are engaging for the students & they are an excellent low-stakes assessment tool; the students can work through the virtual labs at their own pace the week they are assigned & can complete them as many times as they like to earn the full points. Labster has excellent support services for both students and instructors & has succeeded in building a user-friendly platform with an impressively diverse array of simulations; they continue to add new content to their offerings. I don't have any dislikes; since my institution first used Labster, the company has consistently worked to make their product user-friendly and provide an abundance of support and features that improve the user's experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Labster is a transformative teaching and learning tech tool that is absolutely essential for successful delivery of the brain based learning 5e Model of Instruction for Science courses. Labster has increased student engagement and achievement in my Advanced Placement Environmental Science as well as my other courses. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The cost of Labster is relatively high for smaller schools. However, when a cost-benefit analysis is completed for Science courses that require disposable and consumable chemicals and other laboratory materials, it is less expensive to invest in Labster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I started using the Labster platform about 1.5 years ago and am actually kicking myself for not doing so sooner. I teach several Biology courses online and we use the Labster platform for our "virtual labs". While an actual, in-person lab is ideal, it is always not possible. Labster was able to bridge the gap and allowed to to offer realistic, high-quality virtual labs for the topics that we covered in my course. The set-up was easy and they have a massive library of activities (all with instructor resources and answer keys) which have been a tremendous resource for my class. I will continue to use Labster and promote the ease in which I was able to incorporate into my curriculum. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only thing I would suggest to improve would be to make ALL of the simulations ADA compliant and accessible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

When our school first got Labster, the onboarding staff was extremely helpful and down to earth! Enjoyed working with and learning from them!
My favorite feature about Labster is how it makes concepts that are typically difficult to simulate, available for students to experience.
With students coming back from being remote, it has sometimes been a struggle to help the students adjust back to in-person learning. Having Labster has provided ways for students to still collaborate, break out of their comfort zone and still experience science concepts. It has helped some of my students be more willing to move on to real-life lab experiments after having chances to fail and learn from their mistakes online first.
Labster's community is very responsive and open to feedback. They encourage you to participate and provide ways they can improve their product through point-based incentive challenges that can be redeemed for gift cards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It seems that they are working on this but right now, many of the labs include extensive reading, which has its place. However, for students with learning disabilities like dyslexia or who are English language learners, there isn't much differentiation or tools to assist them.
Labster does seem to be very responsive and open to feedback, so I'm sure that tools will be added soon. They already added shorter simulations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My students absolutely love the virtual experience as an addition to lecture content. It has helped improve test scores when used as a study supplement for their exams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only negative comment I have heard from the students is that occasionally they have connection issues if they do not have the best wifi. On the instructor end, I am looking forward to the improved LMS integration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
