The basic concept is very much needed by the association world--an online discussion group system that integrates with AMS (association management software) and that allows you to create distinct discussion groups (say, a group for all of your members, groups for your sections/interest groups and chapters, groups for retirees or students, etc.) that automatically update their membership to reflect membership in you AMS. This makes it possible to maintain discussion groups without having to constantly manually update their membership, which could take hours and hours every day, if you're an association of any size.
The discussion group system also lets you bring in members who are still wedded to listservs, as it incorporates the ability to send and receive posts to the discussion groups via email. In fact, if a member of mine contacts me about 'the listservs,' I just use the word 'listserv' with them, too, as I talk about whatever they need to know about the discussion groups. It really seems to avoid confusion and make them more comfortable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I've been working with Higher Logic and this tool for several years (and our use of Higher Logic dates from before my joining my association). When I started, though many aspects of the service were clunky, customer service seemed responsive and personable and was able to give me faith that the clunky bits would be addressed in the near future.
As time has passed and I've talked to more Higher Logic clients, it seems many of us have been requesting basic features or improvements for years with little or no response from Higher Logic. This includes the ability for discussion group members to receive notifications when discussions they start receive replies, a feature that I've never seen missing from any social media, forum, or other discussion tool. (That's right, members have to remember to go back to check discussions to see if they've received any replies!) If you do some digging in their customer support forums, you'll find that people have been requesting this feature for at least six years.
Customer service and maintenance of what I see as their core product (the discussion group system) has dropped off even further in the last two years. The company has acquired four other companies in that time (RealMagnet, Informz, Socious, and Kavi) and it seems deadset on creating a monopoly on communication services for associations. The results, so far, have been as chaotic as you'd think. Customer service has become slow, uneven, and about as transparent as mud (often you'll be told by customer service to post your issue in the client discussion group and if you post in the client discussion group, you'll be told to contact customer service). No one seems to know what features are being prioritized for development or what the timelines might be. Often you're told to use clunky workarounds that you then have to somehow educate your poor members about and do a song-and-dance for them to convince them that the workarounds are convenient and/or will be fixed soon. New bells-and-whistle features are introduced while broken or, at least, in very unfinished stages of development and dropped as quickly as they're introduced.
It really feels like the core product is just being left to decay while the company pursues, I assume, new sales. What they're selling to these new customers, I don't know. Email services with features and customer service that's worse than when they were individual companies? The dying discussion group core product? Website content management systems that are much less intuitive to use than most other content management systems I've worked with?
I hate writing this review, because, one, as an association, there aren't really any competitors for you to work with. (Though there seem to be a few forming.) Two, I do think many of the employees at Higher Logic are doing their best and are likely as trapped working with a company that grew too fast as their clients are. (Take a look at some of the recent employee reviews in Glassdoor for an idea of some of the tension they may be facing.)
We want you to do better, Higher Logic! In fact, we need you to do better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One of the things I appreciate about Thrive and Higher Logic the most is their commitment to you as a client. They continuously offer their time and clear guidance through the application and updates to their platform(s). I legitimately have 0 consideration of any other option. My only dislike is much of their blogs do well to attempt giving information but it rarely carries perfect applicability to our given circumstance. Thankfully, they gave HUG as an appropriate safety net. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Higher Logic Thrive is an aesthetically pleasing and more intuitive platform, helping to drive engagement with members. Our members love our new homepage and how easy it is to see the latest conversations! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There are still very clunky, outdated things about the Higher Logic platform (libraries in particular) that we find limiting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A very ordinary platform for growing and walking on line communities is Higher Logic Thrive. It offers robust engagement equipment that facilitate effortless verbal exchange amongst neighborhood members. It is pretty superb in encouraging engagement due to the fact it can be used to create discussions, surveys, and custom-made material. Its giant customization selections and interplay with different advertising and marketing equipment are additionally necessary blessings for groups making an attempt to create devoted, energetic communities. Despite its many strengths, Higher Logic Thrive has many drawbacks when it comes to customization of the design and design. The shape of the web site can from time to time experience a little stiff, and new customers may also want to go via a mastering curve to use the extra state-of-the-art features. Furthermore, sure third-party software integrations can be problematic or name for greater setup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Volunteer Manager product allowed us to launch our Volunteer Program broadly to our membership. We were finally able to have an open call for volunteers that allowed for a transparent volunteer application and approval process and streamlined efficiencies in our organization. We have found new volunteers that we never would have found before with our prior process. Our volunteer engagement has increased dramatically and our pipeline of leadership and volunteers is stronger than it has ever been! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Mentor Match platform did not serve our members well. You should learn how the platform works and see if your members will be motivated to use that product by self servicing. We use Volunteer Manager for our mentoring program and that has worked really well for managing our mentor match program internally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Higher Logic Thrive provides the needed resources to keep members connected. It supports our commities/sections/groups by giving them a place for file sharing and discussion. These tools are packaged in an easy to navigate platform, which is a stellar benefit for our members. And, on top of sll this, the Higher Logic support has always been quick, responsive, and helpful. Thanks! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
There is nothing to dislike. My only concern in there are so many tools to use, I want to endure I properly learn them to best maximize the product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We are able to reach more people with less effort and add the perfect visuals to compliment our mailings. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We've had IQA sync issues before and our numbers were off. It has been corrected, but it did become an issue for a while. The customer support team did work with our association to figure out and resolve the issue in a timely manner. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
We recently switched to HigherLogic Thrive and have enjoyed the the potential to elevate your platform as well as a one stop shop for our members for literally everything. The customer support is fantastic and is quick to help us with any problem! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Once you move to standalone, theres no option to upload demographics attached to already created profiles in bulk. (not really a dislike, just manual work on our end) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Higher Logic Thrive provides our users with an experience that looks and feels more like the social sites they are used to using. For this reason, it encourages more interaction and provides the users with a smoother experience. I also can't say enough good things about the customer service support. I look forward to Higher Logic Thrive coming out with more ways for site admins to customize the design and functions of their website. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Higher Logic continues to improve the user experience and administrative capabilities for Thrive. We are thrilled with their support and innovation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The phrase, "you get what you pay for," is a good way to summarize their platform. We wanted the best, and we paid for the best. There are a lot of other products out there that may cost less, but at what cost? Our members deserve the best and we can justify the cost by the time and frustation we save administering the system. The ability to have both a community and email marketing platform combine is very helpful! We need to look at our full communications cycle and by using Higher Logic Thrive you are able to capture how people are communicating on your communities and engaging in email then pull it together to give them a personalized experience. On the email automation side I also love that Thrive Marketing is robust but still easy to use. Other platforms are so robust that it's hard to do the basics but with Thrive Marketing you can do a lot through automated campaigns, engagement scoring, and audience segmenting while also being able to quickly get an email out the door. Initial integration process, poor customer support, and glitchy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
