The user defined fields make it possible to make Freezerworks the best for your individual situation, including patient/donor fields, sample fields, and aliquot fields. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It can be finicky sometimes, especially on the desktop version. The web client is a much faster interface, however printing labels from the web client can also be a bit of a struggle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like that I can see a visual representation of my cryotubes and their positions in the freezer. This makes it easier to retrieve specimens or store them and helps me to waste less time figuring out what rack to get, especially since they are in liquid nitrogen. I don't like how slow and sluggish the software operates. In addition, I had to set up a second monitor to properly use the software, as the Freezerworks workspace maximizes and takes over my screen. This makes it difficult when referencing an excel sheet, etc.
There are also way too many options and input criteria that need to be filled out. I understand this can help with specificity, but sometimes based on our diagnoses, we cannot fill all the boxes they (the software, that is) want us to when freezing down and logging in our specimens. We use a modified version of the Freezerworks that has the testing module protocol manager added to the summit edition. Freezer works is very user friendly and it is simple and straightforward to use. It is perhaps the well known freezer organization software for research laboratories. We use Freezerworks as a database, label practice and billing module instead of sample tracking sample storage. Adding samples into the database along with freezer positions is easy retrieving the same data is just as simple. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Some unique features makes it confusing especially when you are not much experience. But with my 2 years experience i found it so easy to use Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The platform is easy to use and navigate compared to other LIMS. It looks very good from an aesthetic standpoint. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
During our 5 years using FreezerWorks, we encountered multiple glitches and errors. Some of these were major events such as automatic deletion of over 10,000+ sample records after a new patch was released. We did not even know the samples were deleted from our database until staff ran weekly inventory numbers and noticed we were missing specimens from our system. FreezerWorks staff worked with our group to repair the data, but it was not without headache. The program did not run well on Mac computers. I've heard that they have since dropped support for Macs since there were so many problems. I personally worked with FreezerWorks for over 4 years and witnessed crashes, lost data, and weird program behavior during my daily routine running the LIMS. We have since left FreezerWorks for another cloud-based, secure LIMS that better fits our needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We have adapted the use of this system at ease , adaptability to any laboratory needs and also very good in Audition. It made reports for all samples or study based samples.

It doesn't require a lot of experience in training it is simple to train new staff hence i can not say any drawbacks to this system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This system allowed us to create a streamlined system of working by tracking samples, collecting clinical annotation, printing high quality barcode labels, and track productivty of the laboratory reports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Freezerworks is completely intuitive , therefore requires little or no training. I feel this comes with every assistance offered by the team as well it a software that truly has a lot of feature. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The software has gotten a lot better over time. They are option to suggestions. We use a modified version that has the testing module and protocol manager added to the summit edition. We use Freezerworks as a database, label printer and billing module instead of sample tracking or sample storage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I think some of these may have fixed in the most recent 2018 release. The testing module does not fulling integrate with the rest of the software. At times it has been an afterthought. The testing module has limited customers, so they forget to fully test the functionality and integration. The rigidity of some of the windows and buttons can be annoying too. I think Freezerworks is a very capable sample management system. Adding samples into the database along with freezer positions is easy and retrieving the same data is just as simple. Most tasks can be completed manually or using an excel sheet import. Freezerworks works great with my Tecan as it is capable of importing the excel sheets I get after a sample run. The user interface of Freezerworks is lacking. Unless one is familiar with the system, it is very hard to figure out what how to accomplish a task. The user-defined fields are also extremely hard to use. So hard for us, in fact, that we have stopped using them entirely and switched to another program to keep that data. The customer service is also terrible. Every time I email with a question I either get no response or an answer that is no where close to the question I asked. Limited functionality via the web client - you have to use the thick client for the main functionalities.
No way to access the database besides from within the application (file based data file - not an RDBMS) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the idea of freezer works very much - being able to quickly retrieve where samples are stored in each freezer is key to organizing our lab. Freezer works is very user friendly and it is simple and straightforward to use. It is perhaps the most well known freezer organization software for research laboratories. I believe this reputation is good for the future because Freezer Works will continue to add updates in order to maintain this top ranking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The cost of Freezer Works is one of the downfalls, although the software is definitely worth the money. I think Freezer Works should add a mobile app as well; it would be nice to have a phone in hand by the freezer with the Freezer Works app to pull up exactly where my samples are.
