I used CA workload Automation CA7 for 10 years during my time working for a major bank. I found it to be user-friendly once you got used to it. I preferred it over Control-M and Autosys. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One thing I wish it did better would be its ability to review batch jobs upstream or downstream. I always found it to be a lengthy manual effort following batch jobs back. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Being a person who spend a lot of time in CA7 for batch monitoring and fixes, I see the simple and user friendly interface as the foremost.
Repetitive Commands can be saved to function keys for day to day usage which makes life a lot easier.
Job CLASS option gives the flexibility to open or close specific classes during day and night. This can also be used to limit the maximum number of jobs that can be run at a time. This is being very helpful in our estate to hold the high MIPS consuming jobs during peak hours and allow to run when the system is normal or at less load.
The functionality of the batch jobs can also be controlled using JI cards with multiple Schedule IDs. This will allow the same batch job to perform different functionalities when executed using different schedule IDs. This comes handy especially when different operations are carried out for daily/weekly/monthly runs and avoids complex application logic.
Job look back for completion of predecessor job can be controlled for a specific duration(say 3hrs or 5hrs) using lead time option.
Forward and reverse structure options gives the entire batch flow of downstream and upstream respectively and this is of great help when comes to batch impact analysis
List of jobs using/creating a specific dataset can be pulled using LDSN command. This saves time with impact analysis for the file changes.
Last run day/time and total number of run of a specific job is saved within and this is helpful for to extract the stats for a specific job.
Calendar view of the job schedule is very helpful to visualize.
LRLOG option gives the job run/restart history. This is very helpful for tracking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Although the overall experience of CA7 is very good. I would love to have the below improvements.
Forward and reverse structures does list only the triggered jobs. It would be much helpful for impact analysis if successors or included as well.
The job requirement posting will not happen automatically when there are more than one instances of a job is waiting in queue. This needs manual intervention to post the requirement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

CA7 commands, they are simple to remember, and one can simply play with them to get complete knowledge of the Jobs in queue, Jobs in failed state with the respective return code, also allows you yo take all necessary options to Rereun or Force complete. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
As I have always worked on CA7 with a mainframe screen, just one thing I dislike once you come down in the job scheduling description it does not allow you to go back up, again the same CA7 command we need to fire to see the contents in begining. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The queue based system which is very streamlined and helpful to manage large complex workloads with ease. It is very easy to set up the dependence between jobs and also to understand the very complex nature of batch schedule. The full featured setup for the full control of run cycle of jobs based on various factors like time, precedence, event, triggers, file availability makes it perfect tool for workload automation and control. The simplicity of the solution is very good, so we can do day to day activities like run, rerun, stop, hold etc very quickly as well as long term scheduling is also very much easy and robust. The panel based interface can be a little daunting to early users. But surely it gets very intuitive very fast. Some kind of scheduling and control requirements are also a bit tricky to implement but overall not too many complaint about CA7 tool. Also another downside is lack of online resources for the problems encountered. So there is a scope of improvement in that area. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I like the way you can do an fstruc or listing of the schedule and it tells you the order of the jobs and there dependencies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
CA7 does not work very well cross platform BUT ESP workload management does a very good job at that, also a CA product. Workload management beats CA& hand down. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
It is very easy to use as the UI is quite good. Helps in scheduling of tasks of project deployment. Coming on to Mainframe part, CA7 is very helpful and powerful tool for mainframe operators. We do have many schedulers available but it top among all of them. Simple and very solid yo yse.
Job schedules and workload can be managed very easily with out any difficulties. With CA you can monitor your progress on tasks accomplishment and schedule. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
