I've been using ADP for many years, and while the system itself is generally user-friendly, my overall experience has been mixed. Initially, the sales team presents an impressive front—very proactive, professional, and effective at selling their product. Unfortunately, the positive experience stops once you move beyond sales.

The technical support at ADP is severely lacking. On multiple occasions when I've encountered issues, the technical team provided inadequate assistance. Rather than actively resolving problems, they resort to repeatedly asking irrelevant questions, seemingly aiming to frustrate customers to the point of giving up rather than genuinely addressing the issue. The lack of urgency, accountability, and genuine assistance from technical support is deeply frustrating and unacceptable for a critical business system.

It appears ADP capitalizes on the fact that customers are typically reluctant to switch payroll providers, knowing that once customers are onboarded, they're unlikely to leave despite poor support. This approach results in a heavy emphasis on sales while neglecting customer service and ongoing support.

In summary:

- Sales Team: 10/10 (excellent at acquiring new customers)

- ADP Software/System: 8/10 (good, user-friendly, but overshadowed by support issues)

- Technical Support: 1/10 (extremely poor, unhelpful, and frustrating)

We have had a frustrating and disappointing experience with ADP regarding their handling of a California EDD tax claim against our business. Over the past three years, we have relied on ADP for payroll services, and when we requested their review and investigation into the state’s claim that we owed significant taxes and penalties, their response was abysmal.

Every time we contacted customer service, we were met with confusion—representatives never seemed to know what was going on with our case. There was no direct way to communicate with their tax department, and despite repeated assurances that they were “handling it,” they could never provide a timeline or concrete updates. Even after requesting a call back from the tax department or a supervisor, we never received one.

It became evident that much of their customer service was outsourced offshore, and communication was often difficult due to language barriers. The lack of accountability and transparency in their process has been incredibly frustrating. Given our experience, we strongly caution other businesses against using ADP for payroll services. Worst customer service and arrogant attitude. Looking for alternatives as ADP service seemed not worthy. I have personally escalated almost 3 times so far and issues keep happening. The whole migration was very messy. We were promised an easy migration with little input, as the ADP team would do all the work. This was so far from the truth. There were lots of clerical mistakes. Some employees didn't get paid. The new timeclock continuously malfunctions and loses clock in times. The Timekeeping app keeps on making mistakes with pay periods. The payroll software keeps changing and making errors in the time period. ADP can't fix a faulty time period in the Timecard section. ADP didn't solve our payroll issues but caused many. As a scale-up operating in DE, UK, FR, and US, we expected ADP to streamline our payroll process. Now and then, the system does go down. When that happens, I cannot clock in and out when I want, so there are some glitches. That could be the case for any platform as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
