(i) Perpetual Licensing, where a customer buys a perpetual license to the product upfront and then pay for upgrades yearly (Software Assurance) to receive new versions. Software Assurance is normally 20-25% of the perpetual license fee and is recurring, paid annually in advance.
(ii) Subscription Licensing, where a customer pays a subscription price to have access to the product/service. Renewal of a subscription may be periodic and activated automatically, so that the cost of a new period is automatically paid for by a pre-authorized charge.
