I love the overall functionality of Greenhouse and that it integrates with other platforms (LinkedIn, Indeed, Zoom & Teams). It helps a busy and heavily maxtrixed organization like ours keep track of candidates. I like the Interview scorecards and how they are designed to mitigate hiring bias by focusing on the position attributes and skills of candidates. I also like that you can copy over interview questions and form letters from templates so that you don't have to keep typing these in for every job posting. I like the chat feature and that is is always readily available. The reps we have engaged with throughout our implementation process have been helpful, supportive and responsive. The implementation process was a bit challenging at times. We had lots of spreadsheets to complete that at times were a bit overwhelming for some of our team members. We also didn't realize that someone from our team would be the one dedicated to configuring our overall Greenhouse platform based on our needs. We did receive guidance from the Greenhouse Project Management Team , but this process was very time consuming and you should be prepared to have at least 4 people to dedicate to this project, especially if you have over 600+ employees.
We have a multigenerational and diverse workforce with many different learning styles and needs, and I don't think this was as thoughtfully recognized in our implementation process as I would have liked. For example, some people were expecting to receive handouts/cheat sheets at the end of implementation to have on hand as a refresher and we did not receive any such resources. We were instead directed to short training videos.
I also find that the video library is a bit challenging to navigate at times. Some videos seem to only be available by registering for training sessions. It would be great to have some resources for "common questions" that arise for new users and more refresher tools to help people feel more comfortable using Greenhouse regularly.
The chat feature is aweosme, but I have received feedback that sometimes it is not as helpful for folks as they would like. I think part of this is change management issues along with having to learn slightly different processes/terms. Some people also prefer to speak with a live agent, (similar to when we have in-house tech issues) versus typing questions using the chat function, and that unfortunately speaking with a live agent isn't an available option. What I love most about Greenhouse is its ease of use and the extensive marketplace of third-party applications, which give it superpowers through the many available integrations. It’s rare to find a vendor that isn’t integrated with Greenhouse.
Many recruiters have worked with Greenhouse at some point in their careers, which means the ramp-up time for them is usually very short.

The customization options are quite limited, meaning you have to adapt your processes to Greenhouse, rather than Greenhouse adapting to your processes.
While it's a solid ATS, the additional features they’ve developed (CRM, sourcing automation, etc.) fall short of expectations. I would have liked to see the same level of quality in these native features as in their core product.

I really appreciate the fact that you can do almost everything from one system. The team spends the entire day in the system and we have learned how to make it work for us. Although I wasn't here when it was implemented, I had been a part of a Greenhouse implementation in the past and with their support it had been very maneagable. Although there has been a lot of advancements in their reporting capabilities there is still room for improvement. When scheduling, I wish candidate availability could be visible accross stages. Report/dashboard functions can be further improved, though they're good already. E.g. if visuals can be sent together with the automated reports, that would be great. Dashboards could also be more customisable.
There's pretty good customisation for different user access levels--but there should be a type of user who cannot view the salary info on candidates' application forms. I love the use of icons for rating. They're easy to understand and help provide a visceral reminder of what each rating should be. There's lots of flexibility with arranging interview structures for different roles while creating milestones allows for comparison among roles. Implementation was relatively easy to set up and their training is exceptional. I use Greenhouse every day for multiple hours, and it's easily become one of my favorite tools. Greenhouse is a feature-rich ATS that scales with company growth. It's highly customizable and workflows align with recruiting best practices. Email and calendar integrations allow most tasks to be done from within GH. It has the most integrations with third-party SaaS products out of every ATS I looked at. Searching for candidates in the resume database is Greenhouse's greatest weakness. While you can do a Boolean search and use filters, the displayed results aren't particularly helpful. If they added AI with natural language search, it would greatly improve the experience. Additionally, the workflow for reviewing applicants is to look at one resume at a time and either reject or advance them. Greenhouse is a great product overall and my favorite ATS. It makes so many parts of the recruiting process much easier (interview kits, email templates, scheduling functionality, etc.). If you haven't used Greenhouse before, there can be a bit of a steep learning curve to figure out all of the settings. This is not necessarily a bad thing - there are a lot of settings to allow for different workflows/processes/etc. Greenhouse is very customizable for different companies/recruiters.
A couple of small things that would improve the product:
- Automated interview confirmations. Adding an automation to send email confirmations/calendar invites would help avoid inadvertent scheduling mistakes/no-shows.
- I've had some issues with emails sent through Greenhouse going to candidates' spam inboxes. It would also be nice to be able to respond/manage candidate emails all within Greenhouse. I use Greenhouse on daily basis and it's clear when using Greenhouse that is built for recruiters and by recruiters. It's obvious that real recruiters have had input in the features and reporting dashboards available in Greenhouse.
There are plenty of training modules and webinars to make it easy to implement if it's new to your team.
I've used many other recruiting tools, and honestly non of them come close to the level of functionality and user-experience that you get with this platform.
It's also integratable with our HRIS which is a bonus (via an API).

Greenhouse is a very capable ATS for companies at various sizes and stages. I appreciate that they continue to iterate and roll out product updates to the platform to improve the user experience as a user. The reporting and data capabilities are great. No real qualms with the product itself - it delivers what we need as a business. The challenges we've had are with contracts and flexibility when things have changed for our business in the middle of our commitment. While each of our other partners that we work with for HR and hiring tech met us in the middle to help us reallocate funds from our contact to other useful products or lower our financial burden because our headcount changed dramtically mid-term, we didn't get the same flexibility or understandingn from GH. Greenhouse Onboarding has changed a lot for our company and especially for our HR team. It takes a lot of the manual work out of getting new hires set up and makes their welcome experience feel professional and welcoming. I love how easy it is to assign tasks, e-Signature documents, and customize onboarding plans based on different roles—no more mental gymnastics of deciding who get's what everytime.
Throughout using the service this year, I ask new hire's how they liked their experience using GreenHouse and I have only ever received positive feedback. It helps me and the rest of the HR team stay on track and get through all of the housekeeping work that comes with brining new employee's on or moving folks around the organization. I find the reporting function to be difficult to use. This is the one portion of my old process that I have kept going, which is having a running Google Sheet to monitor each new hire's progress through their onboarding plan. I just don't like GreenHouse's reporting function, as you have to make a new report everytime and they aren't interactive, whereas my Google Sheet shows me all of the new hires for the whole year and each column can be actively edited based on where they are at with that task/event/etc. I also prefer Google Sheets for the reports because my HR team members can go in and make edits in real time. Greenhouse can translate a fair and organized selection process into a software. I've worked with many different hiring platforms in the past, and by far GH is the best. The way you can clearly see the pipeline, organize each phase of the selection process is very helpful.
Whenever I see that a company uses Greenhouse for their selection process, it's a green flag for me.
You can easily communicate with all you candidates, give updates, feedback, keep them warm - that's the best for me.
Besides, the Greenhouse staff is very helpful and they always show you new features and how to navigate the platform.
